    Description

We love a healthy, sustainable, mindful, outdoorsey life, that is mindful of people and planet. Our wish in opening our home to the world is to invite like-spirited souls to come and join us not only in work but in, learning and finding deeper meaning in life. Essentially striving to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be. This might take the form of anything from connecting with the animal world through natural horsemanship right through to close to nature woodland management or experimenting with new technology such as building our own electric bikes or Eco-building or foraging for and growing food.

So, we invite you to come tame some wild children, horses, pigs and general chaos in a wonderful family homestead nestled in 18 acres (8 hectares) of our own magical woodland in the sunny southeast of Ireland. Plus points are: accommodation in your own secluded log house with wood-fired Finnish sauna, wood-fired outdoor tub and natural swimming pool in the woods.

Riding stables with floodlit arena not to mention the wonderful Ancient East of Ireland at your feet. The local town, Gorey is only 7km away, ten minutes by bike (there is a cycle lane almost all the way there) The town is small but has many lovely shops, cafes etc but also all the big supermarkets plus very regular train and bus services.

We warm all the buildings here on our own or locally sourced sustainable wood and have a range of equipment for handling timber and making firewood. Learn from 15 years experience to correctly and safely use a chainsaw, axe and other equipment.

We follow a plant based diet and try to stick to a healthy diet by the 80/20 rule. the 20% includes pizza, chip etc and so on. We all share the cooking duties.

We are very mindful of our impact on the planet and always repair or up-cycle things before they go to waste or recycling. Also there is an engineering/vehicle workshop plus a second woodwork, bike and general workshop. You could learn to repair/make anything here, from an electrical appliance to a tractor engine, have you ever wanted to learn to service or fix a car, or weld metal to make art or a new invention?

    With love,

Allen, Hannah, Ron, Nika and Theia

We are and eclectic family of settled nomads. Fourth generation of Austrian Hungarian, Welsh, English, Finnish/Swedish to call beautiful Ireland home.
Always building, making art, music, engineering projects going on plus exploring philosophy, spirituality, ecology, almost every aspect to life. There is an extensive library of books here on art, music, philosophy, travel, gardening, literature etc. Along with a range of instruments including a very nice piano. We love life and try to have fun in everything we do while at the same time expanding our minds and spirits.

Past experience inclines us to mention, this is not a holiday destination but an exchange of equals. Give freely and you shall receive.

    Help

The main projects that we would love some help with are caring for horses, rennovations, permaculture and Swedish language practice for the kids.

We have two horses which we practice natural horsemanship (no bits, spurs, whips or any sort of force) they have recently had excellent basis training with natural horsemanship and we would love to build on this. Are you an equestrian expert? We would love learn together!

We are currently rennovating a building that was an art gallery into a living space. I (Allen) am managing this project so any help around the home so I can concentrate of the building is really helpful.
We have recently constructed a natural swimming pool in the woods that is filled from a stream flowing through. We intend to build a log cabin from our own trees and install a new sauna here.

We would love to reinstate the overgrown kitchen garden, so a keen vegetable gardener with knowledge of permaculture would have a wonderful project.

Ron and Nika would love to practise their Swedish, so a native speaker is more than welcome to stay with us during their travels.

Apart from that, there are so many projects ongoing here from managing the gardens, orchard and woods through to building electric bikes to fixing machines to building a log cabin and outdoor yoga/teaching studio. Far too much to mention here. Maybe you have some great ideas to contribute, make something of your own here?

If you're a practical quick learner with a love for figuring things out and skills in building, permaculture, horsemanship, good English and Swedish, let's start a conversation about your visit very soon.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Ireland's ancient East. We are only a few minutes from the vibrant local town of Gorey. From here there is the most picturesque train journey to Dublin or Wexford town. Much to do in the vicinity, Loftus hall, Ireland's most haunted house, Hook lighthouse, the oldest in the world... way to much to mention.
Every week there are at least two or three trips to Dublin by car, so our guests could explore the city with ease.
Also our guests can freely explore the beautiful surrounding countryside, town and villages on our super long range DIY electric bikes.
