Hi, we moved to France 5 years ago and it has taken that long for us to get into the system, jobs and settled. We now need to start on the jobs on our house and outbuildings.
We have 2 dogs, a kitten, 4 chickens and 2 ducks. Our neighbour keeps his horses in our field too so we have anything from 2 to 6 horses munching on the grass.
We would like to start work on our barn roof in the Spring so we are looking for volunteers to help us from about February onwards. Obviously someone with a general building/roofing background. In return we can offer your own bedroom and bathroom and meals and a few bottles of beer/wine.
This is a lovely area to visit with great walks, cycle routes, fishing, chateaux etc. etc. Also Puy du Fou and Futuroscope are only 40 minutes away.
The main work that needs doing is our barn roof. It needs replacing completely. This would involve taking off all old tiles, repairing/replacing timbers and then fixing corrugated roofing panels. This would need to be started early Spring.
In the house we are converting two rooms into a small gite, we have the kitchen and shower/toilet etc. but it all needs installing. The water needs to be taken there and then all plumbed in.
We also need electric taken over to the barn and garage/workshop. We have the cable but need someone with the know how.
English, Some French.
You would have your own double room, and bathroom. We have a large lounge with UK and French T.V.
There is internet
There is also a quiet reading area where you can relax with one of the hundreds of books here.
We are well situated for most of the major attractions of the area, Puy du Fou, Futuroscope, Marie poitvien, Oiron Château, Thouars and it's magnificent chateau, Bressuire and it's busy town, Saumur and surrounding vineyards.
Closer to home we have a small activity lake just up the road, where you can fish, swim or just catch a few rays!!
Thouars market on a Friday morning attracts people from miles around.
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
We are situated in the heart of the countryside, but also close enough to large towns. There is so much to enjoy here. We have the famous Riblaire (President) goats cheese factory not too far away. The Surrounding towns and villages are full of churches and chateaux. Loads of lakes if you enjoy fishing.
We are English speaking and trying very hard with the French language. But at our age it is quite difficult!
We could help you with your English, and if you are French speaking you could help us with our French?
This is a great area for History Buffs. Especially WWII. The resistance was very big around here and there is an interesting museum in Thouars about it. There are also large numbers of historical sites to visit.
I think this area is ideal for all sorts of interests. If you are into, sport, fishing, history, running, walking, cycling, motorcycling, eating out, or even just relaxing then this is the place to come.
