    Description

We are a family of three who live on a property along the Kootenay river in the beautiful West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. We have a fairly large organic garden. The property is located 25 minutes south of Nelson and 10 minutes north of Castlegar. I am a lifelong vegetarian. If you're interested in vegetarian cuisine, this is the place for you! Years ago, our family engaged in the market gardening business, but now we have a garden just for ourselves. I enjoy traveling and meeting new people and have hosted people from all over the world. I am a semi-retired language teacher and enjoy learning other languages and helping people with their language. I look forward to hearing from you.

Currently, we are looking for someone to stay at our place for a minimum of 3 weeks to look after our well behaved dog and cat while we are away from mid March to early April. Some garden and housework would also be expected.

    Help

As a volunteer, you would be asked mostly to help with the garden and yard work as well as with a some housekeeping. We need someone to help in the busy planting season of spring, however, during the other months there is always a need to help with harvesting and preserving the food as well as general yard and home maintenance.

You would be staying in our home in the spare bedroom. Meals would be vegetarian for the most part as my daughter and I are vegetarian while my husband is not.

During your time off, you can enjoy a wealth of activities. The region offers great hiking and rock climbing and bouldering as well as swimming, road and mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking, which you can do from our river property. Alpine hiking is possible, but ideally, one would need a four wheel drive vehicle. There are local buses 4 times a day, 6 days a week to Nelson, Castlegar and other areas in the region. One of us or one of our extended family often goes to town. We enjoy a healthy lifestyle which excludes smoking and the use of drugs. Alcohol consumption is limited. We would prefer a similar approach to health from our volunteeers. Please note, I am allergic to scented products and cigarette smoke.
