    Description

We are a family with dogs and cats and an organic garden renovating a beautiful 16th century castle. We have been with Workaway already and still are for the building and renovation side of our project to renovate a beautiful renaissance Chateau in the wondrous landscape of the Pyrenees.

We also do a a lot of work promoting the chateau as a cultural venue and resource which involves admin, marketing etc for a non-profit organisation that supports the more hands on renovation work.

Volunteers have suggested we should make a separate listing for the admin and family side of things.

This work is more about communicating our work to the wider world. We appreciate archiving skills, architectural treatments presenting work that has been accomplished for fund raising purposes.

Our business is offering historic tours of the region which is well know for the Cathar heresies, the tragedy of Montsegur and more recently Dan Brown, Kate Moss and Hold Blood, Holy Grail references to endless mysteries.

We love it here. Whatever the facts and fiction it is an exquisitely beautiful place.

For the historic tours skill with writing, Tripadvisor and other marketing skills are really appreciated. We often combine with light work in the garden. Planting onions, harvesting herbs for example and in the winter pruning.

The country side here is a tonic in it self. That is why we came here. For the sheer beauty of the landscape.

We offer a peaceful sunny house with privacy and internet for restful moments.

The Chateau is very beautiful and unspoiled and helping it survive is often a kick for volunteers.

French volunteers remark that the experience has been great for their English language. We are gregatrous and have been living in the region for 20 years and have. If you want to learn a bit about the region we can tell you!

The house becomes a friendly social hub when we have a few volunteers at a time and there are many beautiful and exciting excursions to plan for free time.

    Help

Help required is divided between hands on helping with and marketing musical and academic events at the chateau.

Working on Fund raising projects for important structual repairs to the chateau. This includes documenting work that has been completed and illustrated accounts of work in progress.

Our business is offering historic tours of the region which is well know for the Cathar heresies, the tragedy of Montsegur and more recently Dan Brown, Kate Moss and Hold Blood, Holy Grail references to endless mysteries. We also have a couple of holiday homes. One in our village and one in the Medieval City of Carcassonne.

Good writers and communicators offer great help for merchandising activities. We post tours on Viator, update the tour blog and volunteers come along on tours when possible as photographers.

We try to go with the flow of what volunteers are good at and enjoy. Some guests are just great at helping the show run smoothly and may find they are chipping in with running the household and could find themselves cooking for twelve. bathing the dogs, harvesting herbs, Playing cards or football with our young son or taking the dogs for a walk.

We love it here. Whatever the facts and fiction it is an exquisitely beautiful place.

For the historic tours skill with writing and other marketing skills are really appreciated. We often combine with light work in the garden. Planting onions, harvesting herbs for example and in the winter pruning.
For the non-profit organisation that supports the renovation work we are creating an archive of renovation work accomplished.

Scanning photographs, documenting architectural works, organising documentation to present of social media and blog.

This summer we have some small creative woodwork using lovely old salvaged wood, and some sewing skills greatly appreciated too.

There is much beautiful hiking. If you have a car there is the sea and mountains not so far away. Limited public transport but possible to Perpignan and Carcassonne.

We usually have bicycles working that volunteers are welcome to borrow.

On Sundays there is usually a trip to the local Esperaza Market and the Saturday market in Quillan is much smaller but also lovely.

On summer there are lots of events of all kinds in the Corbieres, in the Ariege, up in the mountains and also on the coast which is not far away. Barcelona is also only a three hour drive away.
