    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You can learn something about permaculture, sustainability, vegan lifestyle, high raw vegan diet, yoga, mindfulness and nonviolent communication by Marshall Rosenberg during your visit.

We live very off grid and minimalistic. Our electricity is 100% solar-powered and our water comes from a spring in the village.

We started to live on our Farm in 2016 and since then, we are developing it from a mono cultural farm (mainly cherimoya and avocado trees) into a more diverse food forest. In the past two years our fruit trees struggled a lot due to extensive droughts. Our main focus now is to incorporate more fast-growing and nitrogen fixing trees (that help us to create shade) and establish more endemic fruit species.

Since 2008 we eat vegan with plenty of whole foods and many fresh fruits. Several times we hosted a little retreat on our farm and all the participants, and we too ate only raw foods, and it was wonderful. We did yoga together, explored the beautiful beaches and mountains. So if you stay with us, we can give you good tips for the area and show you how to prepare simple but very delicious meals. :)

We all eat a whole plant-based diet with many fresh fruits and veggies from region and buy seeds for sprouting from an organic whole seller. In Cherimoya season, we eat many Cherimoya and buy little other fruits. We try to eat two fruit meals a day and have a meal of steamed veggies or sprouts with a salad in the evening. Of course you're welcome to eat other whole plant-based foods during the day as you like. We usually don't cook during daytime, but you can do that if you'd like.

Emma studied horticulture in Germany where she also worked in a tree nursery, for her bachelor thesis she made a design for a food forest. She likes to constantly improve and construct things around the house. In her little spare time as a full-time mother, she likes to take care of plants or create beautiful raw vegan cakes and sweets. Back in Germany she was singing in a choir, and she still enjoys singing from time to time.

Michael works as an online teacher for German, as a portrait photographer and trainer for nonviolent communication by Marshall Rosenberg. He worked with over 300 people in seminars. If you are interested in learning more about nonviolent communication, just ask, and he will explain to you the basics. He is also a certified yoga teacher and likes to share his knowledge about mindfulness. In his spare time he likes to take care of the land, go for a swim, workout, practice some asanas, go for a hike (and take photos) or play the guitar.

*️️️️️️*️️ We don't have a parking spot available on our land. The next parking spot is on our neigbors land (3 min walk to our house) or on the quiet road in the valley (10 minutes walking distance)

In exchange for 2 to 3 hours of help per day from Monday till Friday (2 hours if you do heavy gardening, 3 hours for light gardening work, playing with kids, household) you get from us:

+ Accommodation in direct nature (natural stone cave with mountain view, tent or tent in a cave) OR tiny house (only if available)
+ Sleeping bag, mattress, towels, solar power, filtered water
+ Cooking facilities in the communal kitchen
+ Bike to explore the area (there are many beautiful beaches)
+ Fruits from our property, this depends on availability and season: Cherimoya (winter and spring), Avocado (winter and spring), Bananas (summer), Passion fruit (summer), Loquat (spring)
+ Pure nature - over 100 trees on our property, with a bit of luck you will see the fox, hear the owl or discover a praying mantis
+ hidden bay that is almost deserted from mid-September to June
+ Our expertise of 15 years of vegan nutrition, permaculture, earth building, non-violent communication according to Rosenberg

If you want to help us 5 hours per day from Monday till Friday we will provide you also with whole organic vegan food for 3 meals per day (oats,, lentils, peas, chickpeas, rice, potatoes, sweetpotatoes, pasta (gluten-free), buckwheat, nuts, seeds, veggies, seaweeds, lettuces and lots of fruit)

    **PERMACULTURE WORKS**
All year ongoing: pruning trees, trimming black blerries, removing weeds, mulching, improving soil fertility
    Autumn/Winter: planting trees, harvesting Cherimoyas/Avocados

Autumn projects: Reestablishing a little veggie garden after summer drought, planting and maintaining

    bigger long-term project: building swales

**FAMILY WORK** (Child care, household, preparing meals)

    Childcare
We need help with child care of our oldest son Frederik (7) and the hours you need to be with him would be either during the morning between 10am to 2pm or in the afternoon/late evening between 4pm and 7pm.

Frederik speaks German, Spanish and he started to learn English too. So you need to be at B1-level at least in one of these languages.

He is a very easy-going nature that likes to construct things, and he is genuinely interested in all kinds of science.

    Household, preparing meals
If you can give us a hand with keeping the space around the house clean and in order and helping prepare dinner (we eat very simple, whole food dishes) this would be nice.

When contacting us, please put VEGAN PARADISE in the subject and in your message, put our names in the greeting and fill in the gaps (like this we know you read our profile carefully)

    Accommodation

During your stay (in a natural and beautiful cave or a tent or a tiny house if available) you can enjoy Cherimoyas (from October till March) and Avocados ripe from the trees. Cherimoya is one of the tastiest and healthiest fruits on earth :) We have very basic facilities, like an outdoor kitchen and a compost toilet and spend most of our time outside and hope you enjoy doing the same. But it is good to be prepared :)

We only accept volunteers for a trial time of 1 week. If this time works for both sides, you are welcome to stay longer. Usually, we don't have a limit on how long you can stay with us. One volunteer stayed with us for 4 months and in the end decided to move to Spain

We have only limited internet available through our phones. You can use the internet through a hotspot also on your devices after personal agreement. If you have mobile data (in Spain it's very cheap) you will have an excellent connection in our valley.

We live plant based and would like the kitchen to be kept vegan, with as little processed (junk) food, as possible. As we have volunteers and sometimes guests all year long, you will share our community kitchen with them.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

A calm bay is just a 3-min walk in distance.

Nerja is the next bigger city and has many beautiful beaches and tourist activities. You can also go biking, climbing or hiking in the mountains or along beaches (we have 2 rubber boats available). We can provide detailed information on that and have some materials available.

We have 2 cats living on our land.

It is important for us that helpers talk about problems when they occur and we can find ways to solve them together.
We like calm and peaceful people (only non smokers), that know how to work with kids and are flexible.

We are looking forward to your message!

We don't provide internet access, but we can tell you that we have a good internet connection (4G) with mobile data everywhere on the farm. During the colder months (november till march) it maybe a challenge once in a while to have enough electricity for charging laptops. If this happens, you can easily go to the library in Nerja or Café using one of our bikes.
