    Description

We are a laid back hostel based in Guanaja one of the bay islands.

Guanaja is a beautifully lush island surrounded by sandy beaches with lots of snorkelling and hikes for the adventurous traveller.

Life in Guanaja is much more basic than the other bay islands, so you need to be a person that is happy in nature, enjoy periods of solitude, at peace with the odd power cut and internet outage and not afraid of the odd bug here and there. In return you will be rewarded with a place of tranquility that's much less travelled than the other bay islands, where you can get to experience local culture without hoards of other tourists.

Tourism is much slower in Guanaja than the other bay islands, so it's important you are ok with being the only person at the hostel on occasions, enjoying the space to yourself.

The hostel owner Aaron has made Guanaja his home for the last 9 years. Aaron lives on the property with his uncle Lenny who has been a resident of Guanaja for many decades.

Looking for volunteers over the age of 22 that are willing to spend a minimum of 4 weeks helping with projects such as gardening, construction, D.I.Y, creative projects, beach clean up, people who are good with social media and promotion. Volunteers need to be animal friendly since we have 4 dogs, 2 cats, lots of rabbits, and 12 chickens. The odd local horse is also known to pass by and hang out from time to time.

We speak mainly English here but are very open to learning more languages and would love to practice more Spanish.

Aaron is in the process of continued development of the hostel he has a background in carpentry and is very handy , if volunteers have a background in or skills in DIY this would be ideal.

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for people who don’t mind getting hands-on and stuck into projects around the property.
We seek enthusiastic and energetic volunteers who can also bring fresh and new ideas. Those who are capable of constructing things around the property as well as getting involved in daily tasks such as upkeep of the hostel and feeding the animals.

We are also very interested in permaculture, so those with experience in this field would be invaluable to us helping to build on the sustainable vision we have for the property.

We expect around 4-5 hours of work 5 days a week, the minimum stay we take for work away is 4 weeks. We may consider shorter stays but this will be on a case by case basis and dependent on the skill required for what we are focused on at the time.

Local stores are a 15 minute walk from the hostel and you can find an abundance of goods there, as well as a selection of eateries offering baleadas, pasteles, fried chicken, chicken wings, fish fingers and fries etc.

    What else ...

Guanaja island is a little less connected transport wise than the other bay islands. Getting here can take a little longer, so it's good to plan for that. There are ferries from Roatan (on weekends) and Trujillo, Furthermore there are daily flights from La Ceiba direct to Guanaja airport with Lanhsa airlines

Once you make it to the airport or dock we will pick you up with our boat.
