    Description

Hello! We are looking for a responsible person to help look after pets, and horses, and helping with garden or yard maintenance. Baking is my hobby, now that I don't have to work with the cattle 24/7, and attending Market fests in surrounding towns is fun. Lawrence has taken on gardening as his hobby, now that he's retired from 46 years of living everywhere and working in the Diamond Drilling Industry.

We live on our farm with 7 horses. We've had to sell our cattle, due to health problems, which forced us to sell and semi-retire, and we sold some of the farm land. In summer we make hay but we do it ourselves because volunteers don’t have experience to use the machinery.
We are in a lovely area surrounded by nature. We have farmed here for 44 years and are still living here on the farm, but we rent most of our land out. We still have 7 horses that could use a loving hand and attention, such as brushing, bridle and saddle training the youngest stallion, or riding some of the other horses, for those that are experienced riders. Our horses are not in stables, they are free in a pasture but close to the house and this is their forever home. Usually we plant a vegetable garden in summer for ourselves, and we usually have extra for other people. We also have cats and dogs. I, Christine, do a lot of baking. It's nice to see travellers , and I like having someone else in the house to talk with. And I've been a DJ for dances and weddings for 39 years and still do it on occasional weekends. I have hosted foreign exchange students for many years, and hundreds of wwoofers & workawayers, and can help with teaching English if wanted.

Nice, peaceful country living. Horses to ride for free time, for those that are experienced riders, and wish to do so, a lake nearby for swimming in summer, we have bikes available, nature all around. If you know how to entertain yourself and want to enjoy your time with the animals, this is your chance to do that. Experience the Manitoba Prairie Life. We had foreign exchange students some years ago. So we're very familiar with having people from many different countries here. Large self-landscaped yard and deck outside. Our area is quite multi cultural, immigrants from alot of European countries have settled here many years ago, so we have all nationalities of people living in Manitoba. Coming with me to the markets, you'll meet a large variety of people, and they'll ask you questions about your country :) If you want to improve your English, we can help with that too.

Semi-retired couple would like help with pets , horses, or yard maintenance. Some chores, help in the house, and yard/ garden, maintenance, as well. People with experience and love of horses are very welcome to work with ours, but even if you don't have horse riding experience, just spending time with them is helpful to keep them happy. Also, if anyone that is experienced with a chainsaw, for some yard maintenance, would be very much appreciated. (And must know how to properly look after that chainsaw :)
I also need help while baking with certain things so there's a place for many different types of helpers, at different times of the year, on this farm!! Certain times of the year, we might need someone to look after the house and pets while we go to the city for medical appointments, or a few days or so, on a trip, for family events etc. If you are a reliable, respectful, and responsible person, and interested in something like this, contact us. We have a lake nearby for swimming and bikes to ride as well. Must like large dogs. And hopefully you have no allergies to the cats inside the house. The cats aren't allowed in the bedroom helpers stay in but are in other parts of the house.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Shared room /two beds, unless you're the only one here at the time.
Only one guest bedroom upstairs, with two beds, suitable for 2-3 people, of same gender. In summer, we have our family camper trailer available occasionally. No heat in it during the winter months so we don't use it during winter. We also have a bed downstairs for any overlap or overflow of workawayers.

Clean bedding and towel provided upon arrival. We enjoy playing cards or board games sometimes, and you can join us to watch tv too, if you don't mind watching what we watch sometimes!

We provide over 100 channels from Satellite TV as well as streaming Primetime TV. We have WIFI. The helpers would be expected to help with cleaning. Food is provided, usually self serve at breakfast and lunch, with the main meal in evening made by us, at suppertime. We eat meat here as well. We are fine with vegetarians but we don't cook special vegetarian meals, so you'd be eating whatever side dishes we have with our meal. You are welcome to buy yourself whatever specialty groceries you want however! In late summer, there are vegetables available off our garden but in winter, we have to buy everything. So if you're very fussy with your food, this might not be ideal for you. We also have pets that need to be inside the house, as well as some outdoor ones. Not ideal if you are afraid of large dogs though. They are Husky/German Shepherd/Mix so fairly large. They are the farm Guard Dogs. But they are friendly as can be to people that treat them nice.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Wifi available as well as Satellite tv with over 100 channels, but plenty of things to do outside, such as horse riding, if you are an experienced rider, or just going for walks, having a campfire, biking to the lake, swimming in summer, skating on the lake in winter...sports! There are also other local events that they can be taken to, like hockey games in winter, festivals in the area, rodeos in summer, a Bingo game if you're interested. Or just enjoy and relax in the countryside. Since we're not that close to town, it's nice if you can entertain yourself in the spare time. We have lovely sunrises and sunsets here in the Prairies too. The Northern Lights can be quite impressive at times here too, if you get up in the middle of the night to see them!
