Sasha's wonderful property by the sea made for a lovely Workaway; we stayed for a couple of weeks in late October/November and felt comfortable, appreciated, and well looked after. We really recommend this Workaway experience.
We stayed in the side-house which had a private bathroom and cooking equipment. Sasha kept this well stocked with plenty
… read more of healthy food and was more than happy to provide for our Vegan diet.
In the morning Sasha would give us our tasks for the day with clear instructions and then would leave us to it. We worked 5hrs for 5days a week preparing the poly tunnels, greenhouse and orchard for winter. We also did some planting, weeding, clearing of land and seaweed collecting. The work was rewarding since Sasha was always very grateful and working outdoors in the beautiful county Cork was a gorgeous experience (we were especially lucky with the weather for this time of year).
There is a bus that runs from Cork city to get near Skibereen, we had to pay with cash and it was around €16 each. Hitchhiking is possible to get between the local towns of Schull and Balydehob, and other buses are running to get elsewhere.
The nearby towns have plenty of culture going on and Sasha kindly took us out to some music events and gave us lifts to see nearby spots on our days off. We saw the Halloween parade too! So there is plenty to do, even though the house itself is somewhat remote if you don't have a car yourself. Sasha gave us lots of privacy, meaning there is lots of time to yourself and tranquility here, and Sasha and her neighbours are extremely gracious, friendly, and full of interesting tales and good humour :)
We loved hanging out with you (and Loki and Francis of course), taking in the fresh coastal air and stunning habitats, and playing music with local friends in town.

If you’re lucky enough to come to Sasha’s you’ll have an amazing stay! Sasha is kind and generous and has everything set up great for you in your own private living space you won’t want to leave. Her property is amazing and so is the surrounding area with endless beaches and trails and hikes that Sasha was nice enough to show me. 10/10 workaway

Many thanks Alana! Alana was fantastic with the many projects at the homestead. As an accomplished licensed electrician and handy person, Alana took care of quite a few of the more complex projects. Alana is considerate and a great team player.

If you are lucky enough to stay with Sascha, you will have one of the greatest experiences. Sascha is an amazing host. Kind, respectful, funny and fair. You will have your own little house and all the food you can wish for. Not to mention a very big, super comfy bed. The property is incredible and I was so happy and eager to get up in the morning
… read more and start the day. And if you love dogs as much as I do, you will have nothing but a full heart and laughter on a daily basis. I stayed with Sascha for three weeks and it went way too fast. The surrounding area is nothing but short of a heart stopper wherever you look. Sascha was so sweet and took me to some incredible places as well. Schull and Skibbereen are easy to reach by bus. There is a local link bus now that will run late afternoons and on weekends. … read more car just so you can explore the amazing surroundings. Sasha was a wonderful host, has excellent communication skills, and great recommendations. There were kayaks we used, and the bay is a spectacular place to explore. There were many great books in the accommodation, including several guides to all of Ireland. I stayed 3 weeks at Sasha‘s and absolutely loved it. Her garden paradise is stunning - private beaches (great swims and kayak opportunities), orchard, pond, polytunnel and greenhouse, you name it.
I built a compost bin system and helped a lot with preparations for the upcoming veggie season (collecting seaweed, getting compost to the polytunnel,
… read more setting up veggie beds), we planted all kinds of trees and I had lots of bonfires in the evenings to burn old wood that had to go.
Some tasks we tackled together but for the majority of the time we shortly discussed the to do list and I worked on whatever had the highest priority that day by myself.
Sasha is so lovely, always made sure I had more than enough food, went out on adventures and took breaks, she even got me tickets to a traditional Irish band!
