Hi, I'm Haley (27yr/F)! I am an Oregon native looking to explore and learn new things. I got my BA in Rhetoric and Media studies from Willamette University before realizing that I want to learn everything else, specifically through traveling! I am a hard worker and quick learner with a thirst for trying as many things as possible. I am a body painter, permaculture enthusiast, dog trainer-in-progress, food justice/sustainability volunteer, and yoga teacher with many skills and stories to share. I am moving from Portland to the Bay Area next February, so I am trying to travel as much as possible before then.
I have traveled:
- around the USA solo for 3 months with my dog - never once paying for a place to stay! I work awayed at an artist residency and farm in North Carolina!
- SE Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia) solo from April-July 2015. I work awayed at a dog/horse rescue on Koh Phangan.
- Central America (Nicaragua and Guatemala) solo from Oct-Dec 2015 where I got my Yoga Teacher Training Certificate and my Permaculture Design Certificate
- Netherlands in May 2016 solo where I work awayed at a bed and breakfast and taught yoga. Then I explored Berlin/Prague/Budapest.
- In 2017, I completed a 1 year wilderness survival course outside of Portland.

Last May, I completed my wilderness survival leadership immersion program through Trackers Earth in Portland, OR. We learned a variety of primitive skills. I am passionate about the outdoors and I feel well equip in nature.
I completed my 200 hr yoga teacher training, as well as my Permaculture Design Certification course, at the Yoga Forest in Guatemala. I've taken multiple workshops on fermentation and enjoy experimenting with making fermented goods.
I have many years of child care experience. I spent two full summers nannying twins (they were 9 and then 10 the next summer) who I helped tutor with various summer projects and lessons. I've also worked on a professional paint crew and have been freelancing since then for private paint jobs on the side.
I have a lot of experience with animals. I worked in a dog care business and have experience training, as well. I volunteered at the Humane Society for two years with the dogs and took numerous training courses. I volunteered at a dog rescue for a few weeks in Thailand. I am very comfortable around animals, especially dogs, but also horses. I used to ride for a few years and took numerous lessons/camps.
I am passionate about sustainability, specifically food waste. I finished an internship with the nonprofit Portland Fruit Tree Project last March, where I assisted with connecting food that would go to waste with the community. I helped with the community orchards program. Similarly, I was a team leader for a nonprofit called Salem Harvest that connects farmers and volunteers to help harvest different crops what would otherwise go to waste and then it is donated to a food bank. I want to continue to use and develop my permaculture skills and knowledge.
Along with my communications related major, I have had many service industry/customer service jobs (waitressing, bartending etc.) which have made me very comfortable talking to all types of people.
English, conversational Spanish
I am a conscious omnivore. I do eat meat, but if you are vegetarian, I am completely fine with that and can adjust.
