  • Description

    So we're Gino and Helena.
We're looking for an escape out of this fast-paced place that we call home. We're looking to live a more simple, sustainable life and strip back the way of life we have been used to and work not for money, but to share and teach others our skills and knowledge and where we can learn off others and grow as people, and to surround ourselves with others that share the same energy as us and of course to have fun :)

Before April '17 I would never have expected to meet an English-born Italian guy called Gino, who can't speak Italian (haha), at a yoga center in Norway. And even more so to then find myself travelling half of Europe with him, partly exploring and volunteering on the way - in an amazing, cozy, rolling home he built himself, Coco the Camper (how cool is that?). I love how he can make anyone laugh, not afraid of being silly. This hardworking handyman is disciplined, loves to get creative and is the cheekiest monkey I've ever met. And now I'm here in Canada, feeling extremely lucky to be the one by his side embarking on new adventures!

Helena is a caring, kind and a lovable person who gets along with anyone she meets, she is forever putting others ahead of herself, baking treats and giving gifts to others comes second nature to her. Being around Helena is so uplifting, she always seems to bring my energy right up and is a joy for anyone to be around her. She is an ambitious person who loves to learn and educate herself (mainly natural health techniques) with knowledge that she can share with others.

We love the outdoors, yoga, hiking, anything that brings us closer to nature. We also love to cook, share meals and any activity with others that brings us closer as a community, like board games, dancing, group singing etc etc.

We are a young Danish couple, Sebastian and Pernille, aged 27 and 28, respectively. We have been together for over 5 years and live together. We are very active, creative, and outgoing. Both of us are college graduates, with Sebastian being a biologist and Pernille a social worker. Currently, Sebastian works as a landscape gardener, and Pernille works in customer service.

In our free time, we love to engage in sports, creative projects, and outdoor activities. We both enjoy climbing and skiing, as well as hiking and appreciating nature.

We have traveled extensively and have visited many countries both in and outside of Europe.

Our dream is to settle in Italy, and therefore, a Workaway experience in Italy would be the perfect start to our dream.

We cant wait to have the adventure of a lifetime meeting and helping new people which will make our journey so special.
We're so excited and cant wait to hit the open road and hope to see you along the way.

    While travelling Europe we volunteered at;
Nøsen Yoga Retreat in Norway (where we met, hehe)

For 5 months Helena was involved in the general up keep of the center looking after guests, cooking and barista'ing in the cafe. After showing competence within these skills she then was offered the position of volunteer leader, organizing shifts and schedules, training new volunteers, and holding morning meetings for the week at hand.

While Gino's main skill is carpentry and has experience renovating houses, his tasks were to build and renovate additional guest rooms at the center, as well as taking care of the guests general needs.

At Namua's farm in France and Javier's Farm in Spain (Huertas Del Abrilongo)

For a total 3 months, we helped out on organic, permaculture farms where we lived an off grid lifestyle living off the land and maintaining the ground, harvesting, seeding, and the general TLC of the plants. We learned so much on how you can re-use green waste to put back into the ground to benefit the next crop and how nothing need go to waste.

In addition to this Helena volunteered at the "Donkey Paradise" in northern Spain where she looked after 26 neglected retired worker donkeys, feeding, cleaning and in general the overall care of all the animals needs within the farm. Furthermore she enjoyed cooking and leading yoga classes for the other volunteers.

Gino also volunteered at another Yoga retreat center in Sweden called Shambala Gatherings where he was the "handyman", fixing numerous jobs in order for the retreat center to run smoothly and for guests to have the best possible time, maintaining the garden and making sure that the sauna was on in the morning and evening every day.

We don't mind doing any work even if that means getting our hands dirty. We love to create things out of nothing and making things out of what some people would call rubbish.
