Bonna was a lovely person to have around. She is honest and trustworthy, eager to learn new things and adapt to our way of living. She helped us with gardening, taking care of our dogs, cat and chicken. We even had the chance to go away on vacation and felt confident enough to leave Bonna in charge, it all worked well !! She also helped me with my son several times. I highly recommend Bonna to anyone looking for a hard worker, honest and good vibes person.

“Unfortunately, my experience with this host was very negative. We had been in contact for two months and he confirmed my stay, but when I arrived he was not there, his phone was switched off, and I was left without accommodation. This situation caused me a lot of stress and unexpected extra expenses. In addition, he asked me to buy a specific type of cigarettes (Camel) from Geneva airport which cost me around 150 CHF, something completely inappropriate and not related to the spirit of volunteering. This was a very unreliable experience and I strongly advise future Workawayers to be cautious. I kindly request to be contacted by the Workaway team regarding this experience.”

I spent a total of exactly 100 days here and had the best time ever! I made many close friends and never had to feel alone. We worked from 8am to 1pm with two days off per week and had the whole afternoon freetime to go to the beach. tasks: usually Lounging, Stretching, doing horsemanship, washing the horses or taking care of the arenas, building courses, greasing tack, assisting in lessons, doing some paddocks . good things: - we got to ride atleast ones per week, I learned a lot in the lessons - many animals - They really take good care of their animals and they all seem very happy and healthy - there is AC in the room - There are so many beautiful beaches around where you can go surf everyday (avellanas and Tamarindo are like 20min away with a car and other beaches around 40min, renting a surfboard is around 10-20$) - Especially Isa (one of the riding teachers) is the nicest and took really good care of the volunteers and was always here for us when we needed something - we were able to do some longer trips on the weekends (but if you want to see as much as possible from Costa it’s maybe not the best place to be because most of the tourist places are pretty far away) bad things: - we don’t get any help with transportation (there are some bicycles there but it’s really exhausting and a long way to go somewhere), so the nearest supermarket is around 4km away but without renting anything you will be stuck on the farm. To rent a car it would be atleast around 28$ per day and to rent a motorcycle around 18$ a day - we don’t get any food or anything at all for the kitchen - In the rain season sometimes it’s difficult to go do something (really only beaches around, no indoor activities and Tamarindo is pretty small). - many mosquitoes and bugs - it's hot and sweaty But all in all of course I can really recommend it there if you love animals, the nature and going to the beach everyday. It was really hard to leave this place but I will be back.

Apologies for being so late to this review. It has been a hectic year back at home. I stayed at this amazing elementary school in December of 2024 and January of 2025 and had an incredible experience. Whether helping kids in class, going on hikes, visiting elders, making taro cake--everyone was incredibly kind, helpful, humorous, and just really good people all around. I enjoyed the social gatherings when myself and other volunteers, staff, and parents helped make traditional foods from scratch. Less than a 2 minute walk from the school gate and you're already in the forest. Looking out on the balcony you can see Taipei city below, but still hear the birds and critters in the morning. It was super fun and rewarding to get to know the children at the school, help teach English, and learn a little Mandarin along the way. So many fun personalities. Arnold and the rest of the staff are really kind and warmhearted people and made me feel very comfortable and welcome in their space. I definitely intend to visit again to catch up with everyone. Truly a gem of a school and collection of children and adults. Until next time, -Sean

What a lovely couple Ryan and Vanessa are! Polite, discreet, and very active, they're available to help with various tasks, good at cooking, and they left the room cleaner and tidier than ever. They cooked and were wonderful company, truly kind and affectionate.

I had the pleasure of staying at Lori's to volunteer for a few days! She is a remarkable woman with so many fun stories to tell. I love her positive attitude and how hardworking she is. While at Lori's, I helped with the garden beds as well as cooking with ingredients we harvested right there. We made the most spectacular pesto sauce and some amazing salads. She also cooks incredibly delicious. I would wholeheartedly recommend staying in her beautiful home, surrounded by nature in her very peaceful neighborhood. Thank you for having me over Lori! Hope to see you soon again!

Lucas and Dhamara, from the UK, stayed with us for 3 weeks during September 2025. We really enjoyed their company and thank them for all the projects they completed. They did the platform for a new 30 thousand litre water tank, "cut n paste" on gorse, removed a big flax plant, swept and cleaned the driveway and stock yard area, placed trailer loads of mulch around shrubs and trees, not to mention the on going daily care of chickens, cows, sheep and the pet lambs. We left them in total charge of our farm while we went away for 1 week! On our return the house was spotless and they had made us a lovely carrot cake. Dharma also makes the best chocolate brownies! Lucas had wonderful ideas for improving one of the chicken houses - which had a great result! In return Martin assisted with some modifications to their van which he thoroughly enjoyed. We definitely recommend Lucas and Dharma to future Hosts. We are sure you will not be disappointed!

What a pleasure it was to host Domenico and Anja! Their presence in the house was so discreet, yet both so effective! In addition to cooking excellent lunches and dinners and always leaving everything tidy and spotless (my kitchen misses them greatly...), they are excellent at every task I asked of them, and even more, they are pleasant company and always calm and smiling. I really hope to see them again and perhaps host them again on one of their trips.

A mix of honed street-smarts, intellectual prowess, and conscientiousness is a rare thing to find in the world. Taylor is thus a rare breed - someone capable not only of theory, but also of practice, backed by the most admirable lived values. She is a wonderful guest, who leaves a place better than she found it, and isn't ever afraid to jump into any situation with her skill, effort, and insight. I sometimes felt she managed this truck better than I did, and that's saying something - and I am happy for it. America is great, and against all current politics, she’ll show you why. To all future hosts - make sure Taylor is with you. Fair trails and, ça va!

Katharina supported me with German language during Sep '25. It was a bliss! She found a way to make me feel confident to make my first big sentences, in a chill but effective way, and I'm grateful for this. I also enjoyed spending some quality time with her, be it for meals, live concerts in Athens or movie nights. She is amazingly flexible (body+mind), which make things flow n' glow. Thank you Katharina, bis später!

I was lucky enough to spend 3 weeks with Valerio at his beautiful place . It’s very rustic and off grid close to a nice little town which has access to buses to other parts of Molise. Valerio is very knowledgeable and smart person who knows a lot about food , nature and history and will talk to you about anything. He is very kind and friendly and overall a great person. The work involved land clearing, helping construct a sauna made out of cob and fruit harvesting and drying. I had a fantastic time there and learned a great deal about many things permaculture and sustainability.

Michal started with us for two weeks and did a wide range of jobs in the garden, house, and around the acreage. She’s a very careful and conscientious worker and I always felt that she took great care of our tools and did a fantastic job at everything. She’s easy to have around and I enjoyed our conversations about our travels, culture, and general thoughts on life. I’d highly recommend her as a workawayer and hope that our paths cross again!

I had a good time at this Camp for 1 month in September 2025. Nataliya is a great host. I was a little disappointed, that here was only a very few guests and no other workaways, but I guess it is just like that out of main season. September had been too hot and humid for me, though I am sure I am going to regret when I am back to cold Denmark two weeks before originaly planned. Job tasks were easily done within a few hours, and Nataliya was very flexible with working hours. All together thanks for a great experience ❤️

I only stayed for about one and a half weeks, but from the very first moment I arrived I felt completely at home. Emilia and Erlend are both incredibly warm, kind and caring people who make it super easy to settle in. They look after you so well, and I even got to stay in their beautiful tiny house, which was such a treat! My main tasks were painting and a bit of gardening, with very flexible working hours that often depended on the weather. All the tasks were always clearly communicated, and they made sure to keep me updated so I always knew what was going on. They also always prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner — we shared most meals together, which was such a nice routine. On top of that, Erlend even made me a lunch package for my trip back, which was just so thoughtful. I also had the chance to test my beginner Norwegian skills a little (and finally learned to love Brunost!). In the evenings we had beautiful meditations together, which became a really lovely shared ritual to close the day. Beyond that, I got to meet Emilia’s brother, Erlend’s cousin and some of their friends, which made me feel even more included in their social life. We had so many inspiring conversations, and it’s just very easy to connect with them — you can feel right away that they are truly kindhearted people. I was honestly sad that I couldn’t stay longer. Their vision for the place is so exciting and inspiring, and I wish them nothing but the best for everything they are creating. I’d love to come back one day and see how it has all grown and evolved! 😊

I had a great experience working in the finca. In the morning, the work is physical but fulfilling and the afternoons are free so you can chill, enjoy the view, go to the waterfall, etc. Great place overall !

We enjoyed hosting Flora for 1 week. She is super friendly, adaptable and fitted in easily with us. She always happily helped with any task we had for her, which was mainly planting, shifting things from storage, painting and wood working. Flora likes to engage with her tasks, asks questions and doesn’t shy away from physical work. We wish her well on her travels and can recommend her to any future hosts.

Staying at the center was such a profound experience. I had been wanting to spend time in the beautiful redwoods area in Norcal for a while, and this place was a haven among the forest. At first, being from the city, I was a bit concerned about how remote the area is - but as I drove in and was welcomed with Kerstin's warm smile and demeanor, I felt right at home. Driving into smaller towns nearby took some time but was actually a lot safer and more fun that I expected - driving down by the coast and stopping by Jenner, then into the woods towards Guerneville and Monte Rio for some food, wine, and doing some people watching was great. There are plenty of activities there. The people who run the center (directors, full-time staff) are kind, good hearted, and hard working people with a clear sense of purpose. I had the privilege of staying here while a 2-week retreat was happening, so I got to help serve this community of Buddhist practitioners while building relationships with volunteers and full-time staff and learn a bit about the practice. My time was mostly filled with kitchen duties which I didn't mind due to the large group of students staying at the facility (which is separate from the staff house), and I spent some time gardening as well. My favorite times were during kitchen prep where I got to chat with Woody (chef), Lon, and other volunteers. Despite her busy schedule, Kerstin took time to show us part of the forest and educate us on tree types, how to tend the land, etc, which was a new and beautiful experience to a city girl like me. At all times, I felt safe and respected at the center - this was also a big concern for me, as I am a female solo traveler. My accommodations were modest but comfy, and there was space to either do my own thing, read, go for a walk, or hang out with Baloo -their adorable lab - and play games or watch a movie with the other volunteers. I left the center with a sense of gratitude for having met such kind people, with whom I conversed during my off time and during kitchen duties. The work was structured (about 25hrs/week) but I still felt like I had enough time to explore on my own time, which I did - Guerneville, Monte Rio, and the Armstrong Woods were some places I enjoyed visiting. There's also some lighter hiking to do around the property, which is quite large. I recommend staying here to anyone who is looking to serve a community, regardless of their religious background. There is space here to build true friendships, get perspective, and spend time in solitude if needed. The forest is a beautiful place that will welcome you, and so is the center. Thanks Kerstin, Cam, Deb, Kayla, Mark, Dave, for sharing your time and knowledge with me, and for making this place special!

If you are interested in experiencing real life in Ireland with a real (and hilarious) family while still getting to explore the beautiful country, this is the perfect stay for you. I stayed with Aisling for a month and immediately felt so comfortable and welcome in their home. This was my first time using Workaway, and I couldn't have ended up with a better host to start off the journey! Aisling is very flexible with time off, as long as you give reasonable notice. She genuinely wants you to take time to explore and has great insight into some local spots in Meath. I didn't just get to see the great sights, I learned so much about Ireland during my stay. But of course, everything is about what you put into it! As with every family, there's a routine to everyday life, but finding where you best fit isn't hard with this bunch! Also great for someone who loves the household tasks involved with helping care for a family. Staying organized, keeping things clean, it's very rewarding. There's a lot of laughter and a lot to learn in this household! I will definitely be returning. Thank you Aisling!!
