Sadly Maria was with us for just a short time! We found her to be self motivated which is important to us, it's so hard to keep finding things for workaways to do when so much is obvious! She has a lovely personality. Kind and with a good sense of humour. Maria will be welcome here anytime!

How can I describe it? I was in Costa Rica for 3 months and start here for one month. After this month I came again 2 times for 2 weeks - because of the beautiful place and of the wonderful people! There is a lot of different task you can do, I mosty was with the goats and sheeps: getting them out and feed them in the morning, cleaning their house, cutting some grass with the machete, bringing there back in the afternoon. I give a hand on other projects or made some juices for everyone and a few times support them with the grandmother. Last but not least: I was one of the driver the Lamborghini! The nice old car from Heyner with own personality. There are a lot of construction projects coming in the next months (a new house, a new chicken coop, rebuilding the house of the goats...) and always some things to plant and collect (ananas, manioc, sugar cane, starfruit, lemon,...). And if you need more time to adjust with the heat and humidity, you can help Heyner with his videos (you can check is youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@heynerazofeifalopez, there is a lot of videos from the finca too!) Heyner and his family want you for all to feel well here and enjoy the place, the nature, the animals. I recommand the fee for the food: it is cheap for 3 meals a day in Costa Rica and Jennys food is delicious (miss it!). It is really nice to have your own bedroom and live in colocation with the other volunteers - and run the washing machine every night (you need complete new clothes every day - did I already say it is hot and humide here? ;) ) I mostly took 2 days off in a row and went to Uvita or Puerto Jimenez (1 to 2 hours with the bus), but every volunteers did differently (f.e. working on the morning and going to the waterfall on the afternoon). Just talk with Heyner and the other volunteers about your plans. I also had some videocalls for the work - in the volunteer house or on the patio of Heyners and Jennys house, internet works perfectly. You can contact me if you have more questions! Muchas gracias! Saludos a todos: Jenny, Miguel, Acsa, Eike, Carlos, la abuela, los voluntarios, las cabras (y ovejas), los perritos y gatos, etc... :) Nos vemos!

Aashi and Ramin are incredible people! They were so sweet, kind, fun and funny! They really made us feel so welcomed and made sure we made the most of our time on the island. They're so connected with everyone there, doing so much for the community. I feel really lucky to have been a part of it for a couple weeks! Thank you!

We spent three months here, and it became one of the best periods of our entire trip. We built a very strong bond with the host 🤍 and with all the staff 🤍, it truly felt like family. Port Barton is a magical place, and living it every day with them made the experience even more meaningful. Our main role was taking care of the social media: photos, videos, and content to showcase the restaurant and the local life. Over time, as trust and friendship grew, we naturally started helping with anything they needed. It became instinctive to give a hand wherever we saw something to do, in the service, in the kitchen, or in the daily organization. No one asked for it; it just felt right to be part of their routine. This volunteering opened so many doors for us. Thanks to Flow, we met a lot of people, both locals and travelers, and many opportunities came from those connections, helping us continue our long journey through Southeast Asia. We highly recommend this Workaway to anyone looking for a genuine, human, and meaningful experience, not just a work exchange.

Ilyass is a happy person, always smiling and very easy to get on with. We had a lot of engaging conversations and practiced a little bit of French in between. He is dedicated to his cooking and the meals were very tasty and varied. He also got on really well with Ariana and they had lots of laughs. Wish you all the best for your travels and lots of happy experiences in the world!

My time here was absolutely wonderful and truly life changing. From the very beginning, I felt incredibly welcomed. Working with the children was not only meaningful but also filled with so many heartfelt moments that I will carry with me forever. The people I met also made this experience truly special. Their kindness, openness, and the daily exchanges enriched my stay in so many ways. And the food was just amazing, every meal was prepared with so much love that it felt like a culinary experience on its own. Overall, this Workaway stay has helped me grow personally, and it’s something I will never forget. I genuinely enjoyed every moment and can highly recommend it to anyone looking for something authentic, warm, and inspiring.

It was a great pleasure to have hosted Alessia and at this point, we can say that she really is part of our family now. Alessia came to help the cats from the shelter. She is a very commited and helpful volunteer and she was always ready to lend a hand or participate in any tasks given. Also, all the volunteers loved her so much because she was always positive and enthusiastic. We couldn't have asked for a better person to come and help. At home, she always wanted to share time with us, cook together, or spend time talking or going for a walk. We really appreciated that. Alessia, we are very happy to have met you and we hope to see you again!

We had the privilege of staying with Charmaine, Terry and Kobi for two and a half weeks. We felt immediately welcomed into their beautiful home. I - Anya - had the duties of cleaning, taking beautiful Kobi for walks and aiding Char in whatever she needed (including putting up the fabulous Christmas Koala!) Seb did lots of landscaping and a variety of handyman jobs and Terry/Char showed their appreciation for this throughout. We highly recommend staying with them. The house was stunning, the food was great (especially the pavlova) and the company even better. It was one of our favourite Workaways to date. Thank you both again!

Staying with Rhonda and Dan was my first Workaway experience and I’m so incredibly grateful for it. I stayed for 4 weeks mid-October through mid-November. Everybody on the property took me in like I was part of the family, truly! My main tasks consisted of taking care of the horses and dogs mornings & evenings. Anything else around that varied from day to day which kept it super versatile. That also meant that some days it was more than 5hrs, and some days less than that. I learned how to drive a tractor haha! One of many things. Since I really enjoy cooking, I often offered to, and everybody appreciated it. For the second half of my stay, we were three Workawayers in total, and that was probably some of the most fun I’ve ever had. And doing tasks together was awesome. I’ll forever cherish all those adventures 🌻 Rhonda was always flexible with our tasks if we wanted to go out and explore, and we neeeeever got bored :) I absolutely fell in love with Sabino Canyon which is right around the corner. And downtown Tuscon has lots of cool places!! Dan was super patient with me trying to learn the guitar :) Since the Workawayer Larissa and I overlapped, I really want to say something about her feedback she left. About her saying that there was very little social interaction and guidance: I don’t think you could say that about Rhonda & Dan in the first place. The home is so colorful - so many different kinds of people around. But what I think is even more important to keep in mind is the fact that everybody doing Workaway is old enough to be independent. What you do in your free time, or how you organize going to new places, is not your host’s responsibility, but fully your own. And if there’s one thing about Rhonda, it’s that she’ll always encourage you to go out and explore. I don’t think her comment was fair, but I hope us Workawayers to come can make up for it :) As for me, I’m already hoping to be back one day! 🩷

This Workaway experience was absolutely exceptional. I stayed with Maren and Mithra for only two weeks, but even in that short time their family completely won me over. The farm is beautiful, the food is amazing, and most importantly, the people are truly unique. I felt at home right away — we went to the beach together, for pizza, for yoga, and I took care of their two little daughters. I will miss the place so much but I hope to come back one day!

I stayed one week with this beautifull family and would absolutely do it again. The view from the farm was magnificent. Every evening we could enjoy the Pink Himalaya's again and again. I really enjoyed hard work on the farm. Especially to see the family members and grandma and granddad working so hard is very inspiring. Our first evening was very nice with the bbq and muziek and dance. They are very sweet people. Thank you for this experience! Namaste!

Best experience ever. Everything I've experienced these past three weeks has been incredible. It was all over my expectations. The people are incredibly kind, and even when communication breaks down, they always find a way to understand you. Everyone treats you like family, and the students are simply wonderful and warm!!! Meeting these people just make me feel richer and privileged to live this moments with them. I will recommend this place to everyone! Of course I’m thinking already to repeat my experience. One word : wonderful!

It has been a pleasure to host Laura. She is a totally trustful person, thinking by herself, finding solutions to problems. Laura stayed 1 month in out studio including almost 2 weeks by herself taking care of our dog Elsa, and the house Laura not only arrange the deepest cleaning of the whole studio but also helped me to do the same in the area we live with Marlene. Feels like working with professional cleaner not asking me how to do things but teaching me! :) For sure one of our greatest experience with Workaway volunteers, I encourage anyone to host Laura, you won't be disappointed! Cheers!

My time here was absolutely incredible, where do I even begin! I am so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to spend three and a half weeks volunteering at such a special place. It was a true gift to be surrounded by so many kind, passionate, hilarious, welcoming, dedicated, and selfless people. The sanctuary’s mission to protect monkeys, habitats, and futures worldwide is so inspiring, and being able to contribute to it felt like a dream come true. Places like this, along with the passionate people behind them, give me so much hope for the future of conservation. This was my first Workaway experience, and I honestly cannot imagine a better place for it. The sense of community here is incredibly strong among staff, interns, and volunteers, regardless of their duration of stay. Everyone shares a genuine passion for animals and conservation, which makes the environment incredibly special. I felt very supported from the moment I arrived, and everyone’s kindness made settling in so easy. The volunteer coordinator, James, was absolutely exceptional. He consistently made us volunteers feel heard, seen, and always welcomed. His communication was above and beyond before, during, and after the placement. His quick responses, transparency, and flexibility made the whole process seamless, and I have him to thank for this amazing opportunity, despite my very last-minute travel plans. Thank you so much for making this experience truly incredible, James! The daily tasks were well-organized, and I felt that every job was meaningful and rewarding, no matter the task. The work schedule alternates between routine days, which involve cleaning the monkey enclosures, and enrichment days, which involve making enrichment for the monkeys. Both also include preparing food for the monkeys and tackling other jobs such as cleaning, organizing, repairs, and gardening. The balance was perfect, with a mix of more physical tasks and lighter ones, plenty of breaks throughout the day, and two days off per week. I appreciated that the house was vegetarian, and there were plenty of options to make great meals, especially when teaming up and cooking with others. I loved that the sanctuary’s conservation mission extended into daily life, from upcycling items for monkey enrichment to composting and conscious consumption. It was such a privilege to learn more about primates and the pet trade from the passionate and knowledgeable staff, interns, and the center director, Sarah. Each monkey has such a wonderful and distinct personality, and hearing their different backstories and past traumas taught me a great deal about the primate trade industry. It inspired me to strive to do more to help monkeys and other animals affected by the exploitation of this industry. I miss the sanctuary, the monkeys, and the lovely people here very much. What I learned during my time here will stay with me for the rest of my life. I cannot recommend the sanctuary enough. If you are even slightly considering volunteering here, DO IT! And cherish every moment at this remarkable place!

Cate is an interesting person with a rich view of the world. Conversations with her are always enjoyable, and her open-minded nature made it easy for everyone to connect with her. Both staff and guests at the ashram appreciated her presence. For as long as she was with the media team, her help was valuable. And we would like to express our deep gratitude for her. We wish her the very best for the rest of her journey, and she is welcome to return whenever she feels the time is right. Obrigado
