Description
Hi! My name is Zamir and I'm a 23 year old from a quiet town called Nuneaton in the West Midlands, UK. During my teenage years, I always imagined myself away from this sheltered environment and out exploring the world on various adventures. Some of my favourite movies include Treasure Island and Indiana Jones for this reason!

When I was 18, I moved to Newcastle in the North East of England for university where I stayed for four years. Moving my life, from a small town to a vibrant city, was an enriching experience to say the least. I made so many amazing friends and had the opportunity to be involved in so many interesting things. It built up my self confidence and desire to pursue things I wanted to do. I studied History as my undergraduate degree where I learnt about civilisations, cultures and people of the past which only ignited my ambition to see the world further. I subsequently did my Master's in a social science called 'Human-Computer Interaction' which is a field that seeks to research and solve social issues with technology. I therefore plan to have a career within social research where I can make a positive impact in the world.

During my Masters, I saved up enough money to begin travelling which was extremely exciting. I have been to Paris, Rome, Australia and Indonesia in just the past year! Before this, I had been on one family holiday when I was 10 years old so I have just fell in love with this new hobby of mine. When I was travelling, I found most happiness in meeting fellow likeminded people from all over the world. Sharing experiences, stories, cultures and languages is second to none and I am now seeking opportunities to do this further which has brought me to Workaway!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I recently graduated from a Masters degree in 'Human-Computer Interaction' which is a field that seeks to research and solve social issues through technology. This experience taught me a lot about the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. I plan to begin a career in Social Research where I can further understand global issues and hopefully make a positive impact.

Before I start this career, I would love to gain personal experiences, through travel, that relate to social issues and sustainable goals. I believe I can bring knowledge from my academic experience but more importantly, a keen and open-minded thirst for knowledge. I take this seriously as I want to be the best Social Researcher I can be and I believe that starts with gaining your own exposure to the world. I am therefore willing to take on any and all tasks on a Workaway trip so I can have the most fun and educative experience possible!

My father has always been passionate about home improvement, so I have assisted with various tasks such as painting walls, assembling furniture, landscaping the garden, and clearing out renovation debris. I don't claim to be an expert by any means but I'm certainly not afraid to get my hands dirty!

I currently volunteer for a mental health hotline charity called Shout. I have been trained to take calls from those struggling with mental health issues and help them talk through it. I believe I am good at this because I am a naturally empathetic listener and tactful communicator which will hopefully help connecting with other volunteers and hosts. I also have personal interests ranging from film to martial arts which I love to talk about! I always aim to bring a positive and kind energy to any room I'm in :)

certainly adapted well. He was quick to ask questions to be sure that he was doing what was necessary.
He certainly gained lots of practical experiences including the dreaded rotovator which he actually enjoyed.

I had a great time with Tony & Christine! I stayed here for three weeks independently and then one week with a friend (Tony & Christine were extremely kind and flexible with these arrangements) and both experiences were definitely worth it in their own right.

The work is generally consistent and involves a mixture of watering the plants, caring… read more for the dogs and sweeping around the property. Work was generally kept to the morning to avoid the hot weather but Tony & Christine are very flexible about working out your own routine as long as the essentials are done. There were a few days where help was needed elsewhere such as trimming the olive trees or rotavating (just be more prepared for the latter than I ever was lol!). It was all a great learning experience as I had never done manual labour on a consistent basis like this before. There are times you can naturally feel a bit uncertain about the novelty of it all but just take it in your stride and be willing to learn. I felt that Tony & Christine were really patient and had all the knowledge to help out and teach. The three dogs (Bibi, Poppy and Carrie) were a pleasure to look after. They are really nice dogs and I found myself bonding with them really quickly, especially Carrie who is happy to recieve affection whenever and wherever!

The living arrangement was super comfortable as you have a whole guesthouse with an amazing view all to yourself. Tony very kindly said to me on my first day that I could treat the entire property as my own and never be afraid to ask for help. They also drove me to the surrounding supermarkets and picked me up/dropped me off at the bus/train station. I also really enjoyed picking the brain of Tony & Christine and we engaged in many deep chats about life, work, family, relationships and everything inbetween. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation as they have a lot of wisdom to offer alongside some great stories! There are bikes in the garage you can freely use and Tony will often offer to take you on his mini adventures around the area. The village of Xert is what you would expect of a traditional mainland Spanish village. Very relaxed and charming in its own way. There's a small bar in the centre which has a nice atmosphere for an evening drink or two. The surrounding areas are amazing to hike in and I would recommend doing the Moles de Xert trail at least once, it was a really beautiful experience.

Since you have a lot of time to yourself after the morning duties and a peaceful environment, I found this to be a great place of solitude where I had the space to unravel some things that had been stuck on my mind for a while. I felt a lot more clarity in myself coming out of this experience as a result. I also felt pride as I had pushed myself out of my comfort zone and made a lifelong memory. I would definitely recommend this experience to anybody that is interested as it was totally unique, comprehensive and fun, you won't regret it!

Thank you Tony & Christine for this experience, I will always look back fondly on my time here :)
