Hi everyone! My name is Willeke, I'm 26 years old and based in Utrecht. I'm a primary school teacher and educational scientist, a profession that has my heart, although currently I'm spending some months travelling Southeast Asia. I'm very passionate about education and sustainability (especially the combination); playing sports (mostly squash/volleyball/climbing, but also water sports or hiking or just anything active); meeting up with friends or new people; and cultural and linguistic exchanges of any kind.

Since my early childhood, I've been interested in language (development). I have experience with language teaching through my job as a teacher, especially in kindergarten when at least 80% of my class was not a native Dutch speaker. I loved to connect with those children through their home languages - be it French, Polish, Italian or Arabic, I tried to learn from them as they were learning from me. Also, I have some experience teaching Dutch to refugees as a volunteer. After my travels, I will start a new teaching job at a primary school that is specialized in educating children with a language development disorder.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

3 years of work experience at a bilingual primary school in Utrecht, teaching kindergarten to grade 6. Pedagogical approaches I've worked with:
-Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI)
-English teaching: Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
-International Primary Curriculum (IPC)
-Setting up pen-pal projects (e-twinning) between primary schools from different countries

Master's Educational Sciences, Utrecht University. This included among other things:
-An internship on sustainable education at Dutch cooperation Leren voor Morgen (Learning for Tomorrow), linked to SDG4
-A thesis on grammatical gender and gender bias in bilingual primary school children
