My name is Rena (they/them) and I grew up in British Columbia, Canada. My current home base is in Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island. I am a lover of nature, movement, creative expression, authentic connection, and unique experiences. I studied Kinesiology and Personal Training, and decided to work as a Forest Firefighter in BC for several years. I love rugged, natural landscapes, as well as a physical and mental challenge. Prior to this trip, I was working for a nature therapy organization and picking cones. I am also enrolled in Adventure Studies School for September 2025, so am a big fan of adventures and adrenaline. I am handy with a chainsaw, can assist with construction-related tasks, and am always keen to learn new things or up for a challenge.

I have always had a love for music and feel it very deeply, and am learning how to creatively express myself in front of others whether it is singing, playing the guitar, drawing/painting, or dance.

I’ve been backpacking in Mexico and Colombia since mid- January and will be travelling until mid-April. I am very keen to learn more about local and indigenous cultures, as well as make authentic connections and share stories with lovely humans. I have taken some Spanish lessons while travelling, and am looking forward to more opportunities to practice and improve!

I am new to Workaway, but have done extended volunteering on organic farms in Tori, Benin and Quebec, Canada while living with host families and learning French. I love to be immersed in an environment so I can give my full attention to it.

I am on a solo journey to get to know myself better and am learning to listen to my gut and where I feel called. I look forward to meeting more incredible people on this journey!

Que habilidades tienes?

I am fluent and English and speak intermediate/conversational French, and would be happy to practice either of these languages with those interested in learning.

I am a hard worker and always willing to learn new skills :) The majority of my working life has been outdoors, doing various physically straining activities from property and park maintenance, to landscaping and gardening, to forest firefighting and more. I consider myself a bit of a dirt gremlin and enjoy working in the elements! I am handy with a chainsaw and a variety of other motorized tools.

My educational history is in Kinesiology and I have previously planned fitness programs and/or daily workouts for my rugby team, my fire crew, and friends or those new to the gym. I love and appreciate movement of all kinds, as well as music and other arts.

I love to learn as I go and take on new tasks, such as changing my car’s oil and brakes, house painting, cutting my own hair, building a coffee table, and figuring out how to fix things around the house.

I have experience teaching youth with diverse needs how to indoor rock climb as well as operate equipment including lawn mowers and string trimmers.

I am also an animal lover and have previously house and pet sitted for many people, as well as fostered 2 cats in the last 2 years.

I am keen to be exposed to and learn new things, and currently have a strong interest in improving my Spanish, learning about other cultures and ways of life, and tapping into my spiritual side.
