Message this family right now!!! Do yourself the biggest favor and come to Kasilof, Alaska and meet this most wonderful family. I spent about 5 weeks here, (Nov-Dec 2025) and to echo what many past workawayers have said, this was one of the best and most inspiring experiences ever. I was drawn to this opportunity because of the sled dogs, and they were an absolute joy to be around. However, getting to know John and Katie, their daughters, their friends, and experiencing the life they've built in Kasilof is what made this experience truly magical. They have mastered the art of welcoming strangers into their home and treating them like family. You'll hear the most incredible stories and eat such delicious food, and likely leave this place feeling inspired in many ways. John and Katie are both such warm, smart, funny, and extremely thoughtful people. Like many others, I want to be them when I grow up!! I watched over the place and animals for a few days over Thanksgiving while they were traveling, and I am convinced that Katie thought of every possible thing I could need while they were away and solutions to anything that could have gone wrong. They even left me with my own personal turkey to make, which I was lucky enough to share with another workawayer in the area. I cannot recommend this workaway experience enough. I feel so lucky to have met such wonderful people, 19 incredible dogs, and one legendary cat, Normie. ❤️

Our stay with Laura, Carlos and their enigmatic 3 year old daughter Raiza was an experience we'll never forget - for all the right reasons! Over the course of 3 weeks we were made to feel right at home in the heart of their house amongst the tranquil setting of Coguil - a small farming area near the coastal town of Pichilemu. Their home, garden and three dogs Espuma, Ronny and Cinnamon made us feel comfortable right away. Each day we shared the kitchen table for breakfast, lunch and dinner where we'd chat about anything and everything including the day's work ahead or just completed. The tasks often varied between garden work, construction, creative work including painting everything from fences to decorating signs and also baking and cooking different dishes, jams, kombucha, sauerkraut and tasty lunches and dinners using a lot of fresh ingredients from their garden - Laura's know-how in all things gardening, cooking, baking and creating knows no ends! Our Spanish was far from conversational but this didn't slow us down - with Laura and Carlos remaining patient and teaching us along the way, Laura being a native English speaker and Carlos having mainly Spanish. Regardless, Sam was able to work alongside Carlos building up a new bathroom/kitchen unit with only little previous experience thanks to Carlos' patience, experience and great skill in his craft. The work was well balanced with time to relax and we really appreciated their candid nature to let us know what they wanted from us on any given day. On our days off we often travelled with the family to a nearby beach, town or into Pichilemu where we had time to ourselves to explore the town and, once or twice, even shared lunch with Carlos' family - feeling very welcomed by all. All-in-all, our experience with this lovely family was authentic, rewarding and one we won't soon forget - miss ye guys already! Sam & Jess

Camille stayed with me for nearly a month. She had a natural practical intelligence when working outside with the more-than-human plant beings in my garden. She enjoyed the concept of tuning into their needs when carrying out pruning, weeding, tidying, and reweaving my willow tunnel. She exhibited very good staying power when engaging in the inside and outside physical work. What I found most unusual and so special about her was her desire to really help and make a difference. She frequently did more than was asked because she wanted to, which of course meant that generosity flowed in both directions and we had some enjoyable recreational outings together. I found her very intuitive when it came to following house rules and anticipating what needed to be done. I also found it very easy to share my space with her and she was very respectful throughout. She was very tidy and has a fantastic ability to sort, deep clean inside and rearrange furniture and objects in a very pleasing way. I can now find all the utensils in my kitchen drawers whose interiors are now very pleasing to behold. It is unusual that a guest has good abilities both inside and in the garden. I never felt the need to check up on her except to enjoy viewing the fruits of her work. In addition, she was really happy to cook for both of us and was happy to eat what I was happy to eat which was a relief and made things much easier. She made some delicious dinners. She had a quiet and gentle manner, was truly open to learn and was emotionally intelligent. She and was able to engage and play with my kitten, Fuiseog who is a force to be reckoned with. Her calm disposition was regulating and Fuiseog loved sitting on her lap in preference to mine! My house, land and I are enriched because of her generous presence and she knows she is also welcome back to stay for a recreational visit.

Very nice people, they help me a lot into cleanning and organizing a lot of things, put some fence, and varnish some stuffs. Very eficient and on time with work. I totally recomend this friendly cople cause they are smily and clean :)

I stayed at Beate’s finca for about 1,5 week and I must say I really enjoyed it spending so much time on my own and working individually. We planted some trees and veggies, prepared some olives to ferment, I worked on some of the paths and soil terraces and I got to try out some stone wall building. The valleys are beautiful to walk through with loads of mushrooms and edible herbs at this time the year. There was enough time to enjoy the nature, there is a nice community and as you are mainly on your own with the cat, you can decide when to start your day. Beate herself has a lot of interesting knowledge about plants, gardening, traveling, a healthy, balanced and a calm lifestyle. She motivated me to practise yoga again. I didn’t mention the delicious warm, creamy, well-spiced meals I ate. All in all it was a very great experience :)

Debora is a very reliable, responsible, and pleasant person. From the very beginning, communication was easy, open, and honest, and it was always enjoyable to talk with her. She is attentive, friendly, and brings a calm and positive energy. She took excellent care of Luna, showing great sensitivity, patience, and a natural connection with animals. It was clear that Luna felt comfortable and well cared for at all times, and we could fully trust Debora with this responsibility. Debora works independently, is well organized, and very tidy. She completes tasks carefully and thoroughly and always shows initiative. She is respectful, considerate, and integrated perfectly into our daily routine. We truly appreciated having Debora with us and would happily host her again. She is a great asset to any Workaway project, and we can highly recommend her without any hesitation.

Debs was with us for the olive harvest. Although this is quite a physically demanding job we totally forgot that she is a sexagenarian (a person between 60 and 69) and she managed to hit the trees and lug the nets around just as well as the 20 year olds. Whatever she has been doing to look after herself it has worked. For me personally it was pleasant to be able to bond with someone who shares a lot of my own cultural heritage and speak with someone who also knows, for example, Burning Spear, Linton Kwesi Johnson and the Au Pairs etc. As well as being good at the work she was a good companion and contributed to the good vibes and good atmosphere of the time. She was very appreciative of Sarah's cooking and all the other things we do to make sure everyone has an interesting stay. She accompanied us on the weekend hikes and took part in the extracurricular activities. She is a good cook and made a delicious apple tarte tatin and a tasty spaghetti dish when we went to the mill. It was interesting to hear about the adventures she has had during her life. So, having Debs at the farm was a success and I would recommend her to other hosts.

Top volunteer! Its not every time i get sad that a person is leaving or when i change volunteers but i was sad that fabian left. It’s a super hardworker and skilled in everything and with every tool . I think he builds clay better than me :) If you are really lucky he will go volunteer at your project one day. Also a chilled and easy going person with great communication and very trustworthy. Host him for sure! See you soon amigo!

My luck brought me to the doorstep of two kind and lighthearted persons and I felt welcomed and treated really well The location is spectacular in the valley with a beautiful cliff just accross the river - I hiked to the top various times and I could see as far as the Sierra Nevada. My stay coincided with the olive harvest so we were picking the trees under the clear Andalucian sky while sharing stories and laughs with Sam. All-in-all I had a great time and I managed to experience true peace and calmness during my stay. Sally&Sam; you are great people and it was a real pleasure staying with you. Thank you again for your hospitality may we meet again. All the best.

Karine is such a great person. It was a real pleasure to host this guest. She was extremely helpful, reliable, and attentive to every detail. She helped with cleaning the house and preparing the Airbnb, always working with care and a great sense of responsibility. Everything was done perfectly, and I could truly trust her to take care of things as if it was her own home. I highly recommend karine to any host.

Abby is a thoroughly delightful person. Sunny, caring, and up for any challenge with a smile! I would highly recommend her to any host! Come back anytime!

Q is a really great person and a great workaway. She brings the good mood to everybody around, works with absolute pleasure and dedication, she's punctual, trustworthy. In one word she's the workaway you want, should she submit, you'd be a fool to turn her down :)

We had Dino, Raùl and Chiara over for two weeks. They are very friendly and polite. They respond to feedback and are quite good in their communication. They helped us harvest our olives. Great job guys and maybe till next time. We enjoyed our time together.

Marilena is polide, hard working and very nice person for socialising. She was having a calm approach for a talk or debate. We just love her cooking, of course she is italian, so the half of her culinary super taste was already having when she was born :) We would like to reccomend her to all other hosts and we wish her all the best.

My experience was so great! I met a lot of nice people and i felt at home after a few days. And i had the chance to have my own room!! The work is good; just 4 hours and you get to use a surf board! I didn't do a lot of customer service because it was low season. I washed and placed the surf boards, and did some little cleaning tasks. I also worked in the boutique with Brenda, and that wad my favorite part because she is a wonderfull person, so kind !! On my days off, i took the shuttle to go to Sayulita, my favorite place in Mexico since i am travelling! Also, the beach in la Punta is very beautiful. It is nice to learn to surf there! Thank you for everything, you are an amazing team :D !!

I spent a month with Jon, Marie, Vilja and Birk, and I found it difficult to leave. Thank you again for this month, I felt very welcome from the start. The house is very cosy and pleasant to live in. I loved discovering Norwegian dishes, songs and customs. The surrounding landscapes are magnificent, almost unreal, and it was a real privilege to be able to discover them. Even with my sometimes hesitant English, I learned a lot. The meals and discussions were really great moments! The time spent with the children was very joyful, I really enjoyed playing with them. They are a very patient, caring and adaptable family. The work is enjoyable, varied and fairly light, with a lot of freedom in the tasks. There is also a lot of free time, and many moments spent simply with the family, doing activities together (we went canoeing, to markets, for walks...). You quickly feel part of the family, while also having time to yourself (especially in the morning before breakfast and in the evening before bedtime). I had a room in the basement, which also gave me my own space. Just note that the house is lively: the children have a lot of energy and it can be busy at times. Vilja speaks English well, and I learned a few words of Norwegian with Birk! I loved this workaway!

We absolutely loved having Max & Marion with us as Workawayers and can wholeheartedly recommend them to any host. From the very beginning they brought a wonderful, positive energy into our home. They are enthusiastic, easy-going, social and genuinely lovely people to have around. Communication was smooth, they were proactive and always happy to help wherever needed. We were especially grateful for their help with cleaning and organizing the attic, which was a big and not-so-fun job — and they tackled it with great commitment, care and good spirits. They work neatly, responsibly and don’t shy away from getting their hands dirty. You can really tell they take pride in doing things properly. Beyond the practical help, they were a joy to host: warm, curious, respectful and very pleasant company. It felt natural and easy to share meals, conversations and everyday life together, exactly what you hope for in a Workaway exchange. In short: reliable, hardworking, enthusiastic and great fun to have around. We would welcome Max & Marion back anytime and highly recommend them to other hosts looking for trustworthy and positive Workawayers.

I spent two beautiful weeks in Valchiusella and I really loved this experience!! The place is amazing, in the middle of the woods but close to Rueglio. I was there with Stefano, Juan and Freja and I could not ask for a better company. They're very welcoming, they like sharing their experiences and listening to others, and this exchange is really enriching. I worked in the garden during the morning, and every day Stefano explained what I had to do and why. It was wonderful to contribute to the different projects he had in mind (which are a lot!), both theoretically and practically. Stefano is full of ideas and energy and he never stops, and this was very inspiring for me. I truly enjoyed being surrounded by the energy of the house and the valley, and I really appreciated the company of Nina, Meggy, and the cats who live there. amici mi mancate già, spero di rivedervi presto!!
