It was a pleasure to have Francesco with us. He helped al lot in the garden and even we all were very busy he helped himself to organize. He loves to get clear instructions und is adaptive to different situations. He is kommunikative, open minded and always very friendly. I wished we could have more time together to join football and Werder Bremen. We wish him for the future the very best!

Maja & Olek have offered my family a wonderful experience of living and working together. Punctual, hard-working, always willing to help - but most importantly they are good-hearted people who enjoy simple things and are genuinely interested in helping others. Maja & Olek, I know you probably still feel that you have olives all over around and into your clothes - hopefully your first Workaway experience has taught you to love this fruit and the unique 'liquid gold' coming from it, extra virgin olive oil :-) Take care of your amazing selves!

Hannah supported us for three weeks and completed a variety of tasks such as wildfire prevention work, cleaning, bed preparation, garden maintenance, and winter preparation. She worked reliably and with attention to detail. She is a quiet person with a very pleasant presence and brings a calm, positive atmosphere. Conversations with her were always interesting. A great help and a lovely person to work with.

Alexandra was an absolute pleasure to host. She is kind, gentle, and very respectful, and from the very beginning she fit naturally into daily life at home. She took wonderful care of Shelby, always attentive, calm, and loving. It was clear how much she genuinely enjoyed spending time with her, and Shelby quickly grew very comfortable and happy around her. I always felt completely at ease knowing Shelby was in such good hands. Beyond her help, Alexandra brought a very positive and warm energy, and it was lovely sharing conversations, walks, and quiet moments together. I truly appreciated her presence and would happily host her again anytime. I can wholeheartedly recommend Alexandra to any future host — she would be a great addition to any Workaway experience.

Humy and Fran stayed with us for three weeks. They are a very calm and polite couple. They were always on time and performed the tasks willingly with a positive attitude. They did a bit of light pruning of olive trees, gardening, clearing the land, burning cuttings, etc. They also walked our lovely Tommy dog and gave him his medicines. It was nice to have the opportunity to chat over a dinner together where we exchanged some stories, experiences and heard about their future plans. We also spent an afternoon with themselves and some friends, sampling the delicous pizzas and focaccias that Fran made in our wood fire oven. We woul be very happy for them to come back! .

It was an absolute pleasure hosting Sille! She is kind, respectful, and very easy to live with. From day one she was proactive, reliable, and brought a really positive energy into the house. She was wonderful with Shelby — confident, caring, and clearly very experienced with dogs. Shelby loved her, and I always felt completely at ease knowing she was in such good hands. Beyond that, Sille is social, open-minded, and a joy to be around. We shared great conversations, activities, and laughs, and she fit in naturally with friends and daily life. I would highly recommend Irene to any future host and would happily welcome her back anytime..

Pam and Ingemar are just fabulous! For starters, Pam calls everyone 'lovely‘ and is an absolutely lovely soul herself. She is great company, with all of her wacky or wonderful stories; an incredible role model; and an impressive cook and baker, with delicious homemade preserves to top it off. They are a fun couple from the outset, with Pam being a Welsh retired academic and Ingemar a Swede with seven motorbikes. I unfortunately only had the chance to stay for a handful of nights between other places, in mid-November - I'd love to come back. Pam and I clicked super well, plus she was always mindful of my wellbeing (making sure the upstairs room wasn't too cold) and genuinely wanted me to enjoy the time I had with them. I warmed up to Ingemar's Swedish humour, but also wished he was still at his best form and didn't tire so quickly so he could have joined more activities. They may lead a quiet rural lifestyle but often had friends and others calling up or swinging by which kept the place lively. The work was varied and fun, and not normally done alone. This involved mainly clearing and harvesting in the polytunnel, fetching wood, household tasks, and Xmas baking. What made it extra rewarding was that Pam was so grateful for the tasks we completed during my stay! She also entertained my very serious (haha) hobby of cracking all the walnuts in sight. I hugely appreciated the warm welcome; although it may be a cliché to say I immediately felt at home, it couldn't be more true about my stay at Pam and Ingemar‘s. They really deserve the best from future Workawayers. Wishing you very very happy holidays x

I had an amazing time in Alecs little paradise. From the moment I arrived I felt welcomed and at home. Alec is super kind, chill, and it's so easy to talk and laugh with him. His roomie Ana is one of the coolest person I've ever met, and I could also meet his mom, who is such an amazing woman, with great stories and such an inspiring energy. We often went for a run together in the morning and she inspired me try out more recipes. Alec asked for 2 hours of help a day and I could do lots of different tasks. From gardening and cleaning to feeding the pets. We worked a lot outside, planted some banana trees, made a fire pit and started building the foundations of his new little campsite. We moved a lot of bricks upstairs, and continued making a colorful glass bottle wall. Alec even taught me how to weld! and I helped him weld some stairs and a pretty cool bed. He showed me how to make Kombucha, which tastes sooo good and I designed him a flyer for advertising it. Sometimes Alec left the house for little trips, and in July and August he visited his family back in Europe, so I took care of his house and his dogs. Honestly one of the best parts of this workaway was cuddling all the cute dogs. Biggy, Katara, Pinto, Pinta, Lila and Potato, I miss youuuu. 🫶 We often went to the river nearby, so they could swim, play and "fight" each other in the water. It was hard to be anything else than in a great mood in Alecs house. I can only recommend staying with him in beautiful Puerto Escondido, but be prepared to sweat A LOT as it is very hot there. Again, Thank you so much for everything, Alec 🙏 You made my time here truly special! I am looking forward to coming back one day and see how your little paradise developed. I wish you all the best, see youuu!

Caitlin was one of the best workaway we ever had. Below I would like to mention some of her outstanding features: Number one is certainly her reliability. You could always and in each situation count on her. Number two are her natural communication skills. It was always a pleasure to be together with her and talk. Her experiences were interesting and fascinating. She was a real enrichment for us. Number three was her dedication for the work she did. She had to fill in the structure of our mud house with a mixture of clay, water and straw. She was not only quick, but also very thorough. As I had a 100% confidence in her, I always said to her: You organise yourself. I knew she would stick to the hours. It is such a relieve if you don't have to watch and control. Number four was her cleanliness. She cooked for herself and she always left the kitchen in an impeccable condition. Number five - her personality. She was always in a good mood, modest, intelligent and full of good and positive energy. If you have Caitlin as a workaway you can consider yourself lucky. I recommend her a 100%. I wish Caitlin a bright, adventurous and happy future.

I spent a week in autumn beneath the golden, fiery amber, and vivid yellow-brown leaves, getting my hands in the soil - and in any spare moment, digging deeper into European art throughout history (that's cheesy... sorry!). Murphy's secluded château sits in the gentle countryside, just a train ride from Paris. Some rooms of the château itself are pieces of art. Picking up from her mother's experience inviting volunteers, she is a great host as she is alert to Workawayers' needs: communal space; a separate kitchen with a decent stock of tea/coffee, fruit and Madeleines; spare (and warm) work clothes; and very clear working hours either side of lunch. Murphy was very considerate about making sure we had rooms that were suitable and warm enough. She served us delightful Ottolenghi lunches which I looked forward to every day. We were a 5-6 person gardening crew, and the work was physical, so we sometimes needed to team up but were mostly given individual tasks. Didier, the French-speaking gardener gave most of the instructions. Murphy wasn’t always available so I tried not to nag her with too many questions. I did tasks such as lawn-mowing, mulching and turning beds, planting, and clearing. Having the company of the other young international Workawayers made a huge impact on my experience and I loved sharing stories while working. Every Workawayer takes turns to cook dinner, from all parts of the world, and this also meant we were treated to dessert every night which we really appreciated after the work day. I missed out on some evening activities since I slept earlier than the rest, but on one of the last nights we had a fantastic time getting dressed up. Dinner-table chat between everyone was guaranteed to be full of laughs, and we swapped many recommendations for books, films, etc. I enjoyed chatting more with Murphy while setting out the breakfast table in the calm mornings. I was able to borrow a bike to spend my day off at Château de Chantilly, which boasts an outstanding art museum and horse shows - it was a long ride through quaint towns and vast forest. Murphy mentioned a bunch of other places to visit locally, and a must-do is finding the chapel hidden away in the nearest woods. In my spare time I delved into a couple of the fantastic art and travel books upstairs; these have inspired my travels since, and will continue to do so. I imagine it would be special to volunteer during one of the artist residencies when you'd be sharing the space with a group of creatives. Lastly, a couple of logistic notes for future Workawayers: there's no laundry and it's not a smoke-free place. Thanks for your top-tier hospitality!

Such an amazing place, and even more amazing people! I couldn't agree more with previous reviews that it's simply the best workaway. The way how you can get close with nature, feel that you're really alive and just sink into everything that surrounds you. Together with some great conversations, that showed me new perspecitves and brought out what I had somewhere inside of me. Deva and Maha are awesome people, that will make you feel seen, talk with passion and just create a perfect combination with the spirit of the farm. Thank you again so much for that experience!

What an absolutely fantastic time, at an unbeatable location! I spent one whole month in the cosiest hotel like no other - so this is a long review... sorry! Eva & Adrian left for their other home shortly after I arrived, which meant I was working alongside Ollie the manager and and another Workawayer Marcel (other lovely Workawayers were there at the very start and end of my stay also). So I got to take charge of a great deal of the hotel responsibilities: welcoming guests from across the world, setting out and serving meals and afternoon tea/coffee/cakes on arrival, laundry, dishes, cleaning communal spaces, and of course making the beds and cleaning en-suite bathrooms. I learned so much by 'just doing,' and even though I'd had a quick handover from the previous pair of Workawayers, most of the tasks required common-sense or initiative to respond to the needs of the guests. Though stressful at times due to the nature of hospitality, I couldn't have asked for a better first experience of hotel responsibilities. This has definitely taught me a lot of useful skills, not just proper dining table-setting, but flexibility and ensuring the comfort of guests, connecting with people the world over, and not burning toast in the grill. SO many parts of my day were fun: showing new guests around the hotel, and inviting them to enjoy the character of the place and sip a tea/coffee by the sitting room fire. Sometimes the whole hotel is booked out by a group (or hosts events) and we can get to know people better, or there's a chance to chat with regular visitors. I even had a fun time puzzling about which garnish suits which flavour of soup, and how best to plate up the desserts (you know you've won when the guests take photos of their food). It was important to maintain a good routine, and I found it easy to keep on top of the laundry and other tasks. Free time was mainly after rooms were finished and before new guests arrived to check-in, as well as in the lead-up to dinner. But on busy days I'd spend more time cleaning rooms or and might be tending to lunchtime guests. Being vegetarian (and since we did not have vegetarian guests often), I got to enjoy the first course of the dinner meal - soups of different colours every day, plus a huge thanks to Ollie for the best mushroom soups - and had a whole pantry of restaurant-quality ingredients at my disposal for cooking my own meals. Marcel's porridge, Irish soda bread and various cakes were a treat too, and I enjoyed baking for the guests in my spare time. I loved the peace and solitude of the place. Although there is only one main road, there are countless paths winding all across the Flow Country right from the doorstep of the hotel. In every direction you find something different; the craggy hills, the green riverside patches pock-marked with mushrooms, and the sandy shore of the lochs. There's little traffic or noise apart from logging trucks and occasional planes. It is a typically very windy place - which is helpful for the laundry - but we also had some stunning, calm days, and you can watch the weather coming in from all sides. There's a great selection of books available for rainy days! I was there in October, which is a brilliant time to see and hear the stags rutting, to appreciate the vibrant colours across the landscape, and keep an eye out for aurora (which we saw very clearly one night!). Eva and Adrian are super kind and have many stories to tell. They have travelled and toured people extensively, both across Scotland and on other continents. Ollie is excellent company and showed me the sights around the area while on the weekly large shopping trip. I also appreciated the chance to join the mushroom hunters and explore more around the Flow Country with Eva. Keep up the amazing stuff!

Working at Soley was my first volunteering experience, as well as my first time staying in a hostel, and without a doubt I can say it will be very hard to top this experience. From the very beginning, Marilyn, the brothers, and Pilar treated me like one of their own and truly made me feel at home. This family is incredibly kind, generous, and relaxed — they helped me with everything and introduced me to their hometown, culture, and traditions. They genuinely put so much effort into making sure volunteers feel comfortable, safe, and happy. The hostel itself reflects the love and hard work of the family: it’s cozy, clean, welcoming, and full of good people and positive energy. The sunsets from their terrace facing the lake were incredibly beautiful. And the three dogs — Ara, Ika, and Inti — are truly the cherry on top. Every Friday and Saturday, the hosts prepare traditional meals such as completos, asados, and churripanes, which both volunteers and guests get to enjoy together, creating a beautiful sense of community. The work is minimal compared to everything you gain from this experience and from being in Pucón. If you’re considering volunteering here, take this as a sign — you will not regret it. Thank you, Soley family, for everything. This experience was truly special, and I know I will return someday. Muchos besitos y abrazos de tu Zalaaaa ☀️❤️🥰

I had a wonderful experience with Wiki and her family! It was my first workaway experience and I couldn't have a better one! I only spent two weeks there, but I am definitely willing to visit them again in the future and can recommend everyone staying longer if possible! From the very first moment they made me feel a member of their family, all the time we were getting along very well and doing plenty of different things together. Alicja is always willing to play, either in something that she comes up with or in what you propose, I really enjoyed spending time with her, we were playing a lot at home and also going for walks or to the playground together and we were never bored! Baking and cooking together was also super fun. She laughs a lot and is really cute and easy to communicate with. She learns and remembers new words fast and eagerly. Also, I really loved our habit that each evening before bedtime I was reading her some short story in Spanish. On the weekends we were all going on some trips to other cities or interesting places in the region, which I really enjoyed! And also spending time together at home was really valuable, we shared meals and talked a lot, played games and had a lot of fun together. They are a wonderful family and it is amazing how quickly you can feel a deep connection with all of them. It is also very easy to communicate with them! Apart from Polish and German, Wiki can already communicate on every topic in Spanish and you can have wonderful interesting talks with her, Michael speaks very fluent English and Alicja speaks less Spanish, but she learns super quickly and can communicate well using the words she knows or her hands. They have a beautiful house with a quiet, nice room that have on your own. The cats living in the house are absolutely lovely! And the surrounding is very nice, I really enjoyed going for walks there and bike trips (they have bikes and can recommend some nice trips). The town itself is pretty and there is a lot of green, peaceful areas nearby. I can definitely recommend visiting them to everyone, for sure they will make the time you spent with them an amazing experience!

Apologies for the delayed feedback - just catching up on reviews now! In September I spent a little under a week at Áine's peaceful rural property, tucked away in an area that has many Irish cultural sites. Lovely rainbows and sunrises coloured the sky. Gardening work was fun and active - thanks for teaching me to mow a lawn! I've mowed more since :) I also helped with cleaning the beehive trays and enjoyed learning a little more about beekeeping, as Áine continues to learn also. Other tasks were general household chores like steam-mopping, and she needed some help with technology from time to time. Áine definitely made sure I was well-fed; we enjoyed porridge together in the mornings and she often prepared lunches/dinners with fresh courgettes etc from the garden, sometimes shared with another worker. She cooks flavoursome vegetarian food! There were always plenty of homegrown apples too, which made a delicious crumble. You know it's a special day when the ginger cat decides to cuddle on your lap :) The room was nice and Áine offered me her hotspot to connect to the internet. Áine is very interested in talking about politics and current events across the world, Gaelic language, is involved in activism (woohoo!) and supports minorities in her community. She gave me a lot of praise and really appreciated the progress in the garden. A little bit of feedback, if I may: in my first couple of days I made some minor mistakes because she expected me to already know how things operate in her house, and she spoke in a patronising way, which made me feel distressed. Generally though, staying here means experiencing chaotic fun; whether dancing to the Irish music on the radio, cold-water swimming, or searching (unsuccessfully) for a folk music night in town. She is a swimmer so we went to the beach straight after she picked me up, and to the lake another day. She kindly lent me a bike to visit the caves nearby and reach the walkway to the cairns. Nearby you find stunning views of picturesque lakes, the Atlantic, and the hills encircling Sligo. I would especially recommend couples/friends to stay as the extra company might be nice. She sent me off with a little tub of honey which I really appreciated! All the best, especially with expanding the hives!

My stay with Ben, Emma, Loup, and Armel was simply fantastic, thank you all again. I love their little family and especially the way they raise their children with wonderful values. Loup is already so interested and interesting at his young age 😊 What they are building here at the Quily is a little piece of permaculture paradise based on sharing and exchange. I came to spend two weeks helping them and was welcomed as if I were part of the family and given a lovely private room. They are both very interesting, and we spent a lot of time discussing many different topics, which allowed me to learn a great deal about permaculture, plants, ecology, exchange systems, and life in general. The work was interesting, varied, and not too difficult. It was a truly wonderful experience. Come to help them with their long time project, it's really worth it 😉

I had a wonderful experience volunteering with Renato! He’s an incredibly kind, humble, and interesting person. Not only did he help me improve my Italian skills (which were a bit rusty), but we also shared many meals together, always with enough food to leave us both fully satisfied. While I didn’t have a private room, Renato was always respectful of my privacy and personal time, even designating a private bathroom for me. He was also very attentive and open to any requests I had. The location is a bit remote in terms of public transport, but Renato was always willing to take me to a nearby spot whenever I needed to go somewhere. I originally thought the weather would be cold on December, but it turned out to be perfect for outdoor work, and Renato made sure the part of the house we were using was always warm and cozy. I highly recommend volunteering with Renato as it was a fantastic experience for me!
