This was my first workaway experience and I would like to write this review for the first-time workawayers of the website.
I've been a scout for all of my childhood and I am used to travelling, but I was very nervous at the thought of being in a stranger's house, far away from home. This is to say that safety for me is most important and my trust is not easily gained.
I felt safe with Nico.
We were welcomed into his life at a very difficult time for him, big life changes, a lot of pressure and he had to deal with unfriendly people and not kind behaviours from them, even so, in the 21 days I stayed with him, even if all of this was inevitably going on around us, he did a wonderful, amazing job at not letting it touch us at all.
I must specify, that we did not stay in the accommodation that is listed and that other volunteers before us stayed at, because a week before I got on my flight he had to leave the property and instead of cancelling on us last minute, he offered us to stay in his own home (which I really appreciated). Food was not included for us, but the hours were just 15 in exchange.
This experience was wonderful, the work load was precise (exactly the amount of hours we agreed on every week), light, but always changing depending on what he needed, so that's the "flexibility" he might ask of you. Main tasks for us had to do with BnB cleaning, dog sitting, house sitting, moving forniture and organising garden sales. I also helped a bit with social media and graphic skills.
He encouraged us to always ask for breaks when we needed, to communicate if a task was too hard for us or if we preferred doing something different instead. Anything we weren't comfortable with, he was always open to listen.
Communicating with Nico is very easy, he's very clear and welcomes you to be just as clear as he is.
He even allowed us to take our 2 days off to explore the island, on a day he had really urgent tasks to take care of and that was something I really appreciated.
Even when (as humans do) there were disagreements or moments of strong emotions on either side, he is the type of person to text back at the end of the day and open a kind dialogue to understand and excuse each other.
What else? Hufa is the kindest, quirkiest soul ever, it was a pleasure sharing a home with her, a very kind and loving black kitty might or might not pass by when you're there (if you see her, give her lots of love for me), the area we stayed at was wonderful, we had plenty of time off to enjoy the beach, we learned how to surf and Nico did give us pointers about it.
Nico is very excited about sharing any cool places or cool people he knows, so if you are kind I'm sure he'll take you to see many once-in-a-lifetime things and people. The island itself is nice, I'd advise you to talk with anyone you meet and truly keep an open mind, I feel that's the best way to fully receive an experience like this. I left some friends over there, I hope to see them soon, I wish Canti a good life and hope to travel with Alicia again before the autumn.
Tenerife, you were not what I expected, but just what I needed.

Overall, I had a positive experience and I am grateful for the opportunity to spend time here. The place is very rustic and not for everyone, as it requires a strong spirit of adaptation and a genuine love for animals. For me, one of the most challenging aspects was getting used to having many animals sharing the kitchen and common living spaces. The workload also varied depending on how many volunteers were present, but in my experience the daily tasks often took longer than I expected. This place has its own charm, and the animals are truly special and will stay in my heart. I also really appreciated the sense of community that naturally formed among the volunteers, which made the experience more enjoyable and supportive. At the same time, the environment can be quite overwhelming when you first arrive.
My main difficulty during the stay was a lack of respectful and constructive communication with the person managing the sanctuary at the time of my visit, as well as a general sense of disorganization. Feedback was often delivered in a very stressful and confrontational manner, sometimes through raised voices, which made constructive conversations difficult. I understand that managing animals, volunteers, and daily responsibilities can be demanding, but this really affected my overall experience. Despite the challenges, I am thankful for the experience and for the time spent with the animals and the people I met along the way.

I can describe that experience as one and only 😊 I mean, It was really
great !
I had the opportunity to stay in a remote and peaceful place, surrounded by true nature, with very little human presence. I also enjoyed the company of the people and animals living here (cats, dogs, and chickens). This unique place attracts a certain type of person who seeks mindfulness, spiritual experiences, and is open to growth and self-improvement. That's why I met so many fantastic people throughout my stay.
The hosts are very interesting and super friendly. They are both very hard-working and expect the same from their guests.
The meals were always fresh, delicious, rich in protein, and varied. However, be prepared to eat twice a day (you can get used to it, or bring something to snack on throughout the day). When choosing this place, it's important to be open to new experiences, flexible with your time and tasks, and remember that good communication and feedback are very important.
Maria and Niz, muchas gracias!!!

Francesco has been one of the best Workawayers we have ever hosted. From the moment he contacted us before his arrival, he showed genuine interest in our project and community. When he arrived, he quickly became part of our family and built wonderful relationships with everyone around him.
The children absolutely loved him, and he created a special bond with them that they will remember for a long time. He was calm, respectful, easy to live and work with, and always willing to learn. He took time to understand tasks well and completed them carefully.
What stood out most was how deeply he embraced Kenyan culture. He fell in love with Kenya, its people, weather, and food. He especially enjoyed ugali, porridge, terere (amaranth leaves), lentils, fresh vegetables, roasted street maize, and our sweet bananas. He often commented on how fresh and flavorful our food was, coming directly from the soil. Before long, he felt like a true Kenyan and became part of the local way of life.
Francesco connected very well with the wider community, visited families, made many local friends, and became part of community life. He also witnessed the launch of our women's baking and pastry skills training program and was able to see women begin earning income from selling cakes and scones, which was an exciting milestone for our community. He shared his own culture by cooking food from his country and spending quality time with everyone.
At home, he willingly helped with household chores, including hanging clothes and assisting wherever needed. His stay was so enjoyable that we encouraged him to extend it by another week because none of us were ready to say goodbye.
Francesco became much more than a volunteer—he became family, like a younger brother to us. We highly recommend him to any host. He is kind, reliable, adaptable, and brings a positive spirit wherever he goes. We are grateful for the time we shared and will always consider him part of the family and we welcome you again and again. We have preserved your room whenever you come back. Thank you Fran for your love.
With love and gratitude,
Priscilla, the children and entire community.

I had the most wonderful time at Paul and Julia’s lovely home. The surroundings are truly beautiful, peaceful and calming. I was very lucky to have my own room and bathroom, which made my stay even more comfortable.
The work was more than fair and enjoyable: it mostly involved some gardening and painting the windows. Paul and Julia really made an effort to show me the area and help me discover the beautiful surroundings.
Paul and Julia are both incredibly welcoming, caring and generous hosts. Julia is such a kind, understanding and warm person. She creates a safe space where you feel you can talk openly about anything. Paul is a genuinely funny man with a wealth of life experience and wisdom and he always had fascinating stories and insights to share. Their cooking is absolutely fabulous and I truly enjoyed sharing meals and conversations with them.
The house is also full of lovely animal companions including the sweet dog (Madame) Plume, who loves going for walks, and the many adorable cats that make the home even more special.
I would highly recommend staying with Paul and Julia. Thank you both for such a wonderful experience! I am truly happy I chose this place for my first workaway experience and I will definitely miss this place.

There are places you visit, and then there are places that become part of who you are. Mayoor's farm will forever be one of those places for us.
When we first arrived, our plan was simple: stay for one month, learn a few things, contribute where we could, and continue our travels. Life, however, had a different plan. One month became three months, and even after all that time, leaving was one of the hardest things we had to do. If our visa had not come to an end, we would have happily stayed longer in this little piece of paradise that captured our hearts from the very beginning.
Looking back on our travels across India, we can say without hesitation that this was the most meaningful, rewarding, and life-changing experience we had in this beautiful country.
Mayoor is an exceptional host and an exceptional human being. Kind, respectful, generous, knowledgeable, and endlessly patient, he created an environment where everyone felt welcome and valued. Some of our favorite moments were the long conversations we shared with him about farming, education, politics, culture, and life itself. We learned so much from his experiences and his perspective on the world.
What made our stay even more special was Mayoor's willingness to share not only his farm but also the incredible farming community around him. He regularly took us to visit neighboring farms, and every trip became an opportunity to learn something new. We visited fascinating places, met inspiring farmers, and discovered different approaches to agriculture and sustainable living. One of our favorite visits was to the pineapple farm. We always looked forward to those trips, not only because they were educational but also because they ended with the freshest and most delicious pineapple juice imaginable. These experiences gave us a deeper appreciation for the land and the people who care for it.
Over three months, we learned more than we ever imagined possible. We followed the entire bean-to-bar chocolate-making process, from harvesting cacao pods and fermenting beans to drying, roasting, and transforming them into beautiful chocolate bars. Watching this process unfold from beginning to end was fascinating and gave us a whole new appreciation for the work behind every piece of chocolate.
One of the projects we are most proud of was building a pathway completely from scratch. We poured our energy, creativity, and hard work into it, and seeing the final result was incredibly rewarding. Knowing that a small part of us will remain on the farm long after we have left fills us with happiness. We left our mark on the farm, but the farm left an even bigger mark on us.
Yet what made this place truly unforgettable was not the work, the projects, or even the beautiful surroundings. It was the people. And above all, it was Mukunth. There are not enough words to describe how much Mukunth means to us. During our stay, he became so much more than the volunteer coordinator. He became family. From the very beginning, he treated us with kindness, patience, and genuine care. Day after day, we worked together, laughed together, shared meals, stories, and countless moments that slowly built a bond we never expected. Somewhere along the way, he stopped feeling like a friend and started feeling like a son. We will forever think of him as our second son. Mukunth taught us many practical skills, but more importantly, he taught us with patience, trust, and encouragement. One of the greatest gifts he gave me was teaching me how to milk a cow. What started as something completely new soon became one of my favorite daily routines. He trusted me with responsibilities that made me feel useful and valued. Every day I cared for Babu and her calf, milked the cow, delivered fresh milk to the neighbors, fed and bathed the animals, and helped care for the six wonderful dogs who brought so much joy to our lives. The trust he placed in me meant more than he will ever know.
One memory will stay in my heart forever. During my first week on the farm, I casually mentioned my birthday. I thought nothing of it afterwards. Two months later, Mukunth appeared with a birthday cake and warm wishes. He had remembered the date all that time and had gone out of his way to get a cake for me. I was deeply touched. In a world where people often forget small details, he remembered. It was such a simple act, but it spoke volumes about the kind of person he is. I will carry that memory with me for the rest of my life.
We also want to express our deepest gratitude to the incredible tribal women who work on the farm. They welcomed us with open hearts and quickly became some of our closest friends. Despite our different languages and backgrounds, we shared endless laughter, jokes, stories, and unforgettable moments together. Their warmth, strength, and joy made every day brighter. Their children brought so much happiness and energy to the farm, and we loved every moment spent with them.
The volunteer community was another beautiful part of this experience. We met wonderful people from all over the world, but some became especially dear to us. Naguesh and Catherine will always hold a special place in our hearts. Their kindness, friendship, and beautiful spirits made our journey even richer.
As our departure date approached, a feeling of sadness slowly settled in. We realized we were not simply leaving a volunteer placement. We were leaving family. We were leaving friends.
We were leaving a place that had become home.
On our last day, it felt as though a piece of our hearts remained behind among the cacao trees, the animals, the pathways we built, the laughter we shared, and the people we came to love.
Thank you, Mayoor, for opening your farm and your heart to us.
Thank you, Mukunth, for your friendship, your patience, your generosity, and for becoming family.
Thank you to the amazing women, children, volunteers, and every single person who made this experience so extraordinary.
This farm gave us memories that will last a lifetime, friendships that will never fade, and lessons that we will carry wherever we go. We arrived as strangers. We left as family.
And although we had to leave because our visa came to an end, one thing is absolutely certain that we will return home to this beautiful farm.

The 5 weeks we spent with Lloyd were truly wonderful, comfortable and peaceful. From the very first day, Lloyd adapted so naturally that he felt like part of the home. He is very hardworking, smart, responsible and solution-oriented. He doesn’t do things just to finish them — he genuinely cares about doing them in the best possible way.
During his stay, Lloyd helped us with many different kinds of work and always did everything carefully and with great attention to detail. He cleaned all the stone walls of our house from construction residues such as dirt, lime and cement with incredible patience and care. He also did tile installation, sanded wood surfaces, assembled furniture, helped in the garden and took care of the vegetables.
One of the most touching things was the love and kindness Lloyd showed to the 10 baby kittens in our garden — he fed and cared for them every day with genuine compassion. Even though he did not speak the same language as my elderly mother and father, he still managed to build a warm and positive connection with them through his kindness and energy.
Lloyd was always respectful, thoughtful, positive and very easy to communicate with. Whenever there was a problem, he stayed calm and focused on finding solutions, and he was always willing to help with anything. His trustworthy character made us feel completely comfortable having him in our home, almost like we had known him for a long time.
He left a beautiful impression here not only with his help and hard work, but also with his warm energy and sincerity. We are truly happy to have met Lloyd.
I wholeheartedly recommend Lloyd to every host, and our door will always be open for him if he ever wants to come back 😊

Peace, joy and lots of laughter... these are words that immediately come to mind when I retrospect on my stay with Nina. From the moment I arrived, I immediately felt at home, and that feeling never left. I can say without doubt that this is a home I will always return to.
Nina's place is simple, peaceful and deeply connected to nature — blissful walking paths, friendly neighbours, and her parents' magical garden just five minutes away where one could spend hours doing garden work. Friends of Nina's would visit from time to time, and they were all wonderfully warm. I also had a great time with Nina's sister.
The tasks were varied and enjoyable... mucking out the stalls, looking after the majestic ponies (Laila and Luana), weeding, walking Bell (an adorable dog), small repair works, playing with Joli (Nina's nine-year-old niece), helping Zoé with maths, cooking, and household cleaning. I normally prefer garden work over cleaning, but Nina's home was so full of love and bliss that I often found myself just enchanted and dancing while cleaning for hours with joy and simply losing track of time. I think we can safely say Nina has a gift for enchanting people...with love, homeliness and kindness.
Nina also went out of her way to enrich my experience — taking me to the pool in the next town, late night music together (singing and playing the guitar), a peaceful forest walk that culminated in breathtaking views, and even teaching me bareback horse riding. Zoé joined too, a pro rider with one of the best smiles ever, what a cheerful, ambitious young girl. Good luck with your future plans, Zooeeeeeeeeeé!
Time flew by, and it truly saddened me to leave. And as if joy, peace and lots of laughter weren't enough, Nina sent me on my way with happiness, satisfaction and wholeness of heart. Until we meet again, Ovie 🤍

There are some places you visit and enjoy, and then there are places that leave a permanent mark on your heart. Staying with Ashwin and Tanisha was one of those rare experiences for us.
Before they were even members of Workaway, we spent a month with them on their beautiful farm and instantly felt at home. When it came time to leave India, we knew we couldn't go without seeing them again, so we returned for another two weeks. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions we made during our travels.
From the very beginning, Ashwin and Tanisha welcomed us not as volunteers, but as family. Their kindness, generosity, and genuine care for others are truly remarkable. They are two of the warmest, most sincere, and inspiring people we have ever met. What they are creating is so much more than a farm. It's a place built with love, purpose, and a deep connection to nature and community.
During our stay, we learned an incredible amount. We helped with weeding, planting, watering, preparing the soil for cultivation, landscaping, mural painting, and many other projects around the farm. Every task felt meaningful because we could see the passion and vision behind everything they were building. We arrived with little knowledge of farming and left with new skills, new perspectives, and a much greater appreciation for the hard work that goes into caring for the land.
Some of our favorite memories were not just about the work, but about the life we shared together. We spent evenings talking for hours about travel, culture, dreams, nature, and life itself. Those conversations will stay with us for a very long time. Ashwin and Tanisha have a beautiful way of making people feel heard, valued, and included.
The surroundings are equally special. We explored the stunning hills and forests around the farm, enjoyed peaceful hikes, and experienced a quieter and more authentic side of Goa. The local community and neighbors were incredibly welcoming and added even more warmth to our stay.
The food deserves special mention. Every meal was healthy, nourishing, and prepared with care. And then there were Ashwin's pizzas! We were absolutely spoiled with some pizza nights, each one better than the last. Those evenings gathered around good food and great company are memories we will always cherish.
What touched us most was how much Ashwin and Tanisha genuinely cared about our well-being. They always made sure we were comfortable, getting enough rest, eating well, and enjoying our experience. Their generosity comes naturally and creates an atmosphere where everyone feels safe, relaxed, and appreciated.
It is difficult to put into words what this experience meant to us. We came as strangers, but we left with friends we will carry in our hearts for the rest of our lives. This was not simply a volunteer experience. It was a lesson in kindness, community, simplicity, and meaningful living.
We cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you are looking for a genuine experience, want to learn new skills, connect with wonderful people, and be part of something truly special, this is the place.
Ashwin and Tanisha, thank you for opening your home and your hearts to us. We wish you every success with your future projects, especially the café. We have no doubt that everything you create will reflect the same warmth, care, and passion that made our stay so unforgettable.
We already miss this place and know that one day we will return. Until then, thank you for the memories, the laughter, the lessons, the pizzas, and most importantly, your friendship.

Mythe found our remote place with her little camping car and managed the rocky road with no problems. She was a great help securing our faisans enclosures despite the unusally hot temperatures for this season, which made outside work more strenuos. She was open to help wherever needed and did her best also with tasks who were new to her. We felt that she had a genuine love for the animals, particularly the ones who were less fortunate in life. She was interested and willing to learn about animals and their needs and behavior.
To summarize it, Myrthe is a very pleasant person to whom we wish all the best for her future!
