We are planning to be away, 28th August till the 8th September to visit family in the UK. Helpers needed ASAP.
This an excellent opportunity for a couple, family or (friends traveling together) to really know what its like to live on top of a mountain, in an amazingly beautiful and isolated setting with goats. Milking experience is a bonus, but I can teach you how if needed.
Also I can show you how to make halloumi cheese with the milk you will get.
Plenty of goat meat in the freezer, some fruit and vegetables available from the garden.
We will make sure you have everything you need to take care of the animals. Around 3 hours of work a day. Possibility of payment for the work, while we are away, for the right people.
Well behaved dogs are welcome, as long they get along with ours, and wont chase our animals.
Our farm is 1km down a dirt rd, that is a bit bumpy, not suitable for very low down vehicles. We have a ford galaxy we drive up and down, so it isn't too bad.
We have space for vans. Tent for while we are here, for the right people, its possible to stay in our house while we are away.
Our facilities are basic, water from mine and the stream. Showers in the garden when the hose is hot. Compost bucket toilet.
The views and walking here, are some of the best in Portugal. The highest mountain in Portugal is visible from our kitchen window. You can walk for hours without seeing anyone. Birds of prey, deer amd wild boar are often seen from here. The stars are incredible, as we have no light pollution. Nearest neighbours and villages are 10km away.
We are a family of four, me Emily 41, Sam 40, Connie has 6 years and Bill is 4. Nine years ago, after volunteering and farm sitting for three years, we brought one of the abandoned "casais de Folgosinho".
We had some amazing volunteers over the years and we're very thankful for all the help.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Help sheparding and caring for the goats.
Help with the garden.Idiomas hablados
Inglés: Fluido
Portugués: IntermedioAlojamiento
We can supply tents and mattresses etc. We also have a space for vans and tents.
Our facilities are also very basic, temporary compost toilet (a bucket), no mains electric or water, (we have a solar system and water from springs and the stream).
Please bring waterproof foot-ware, and as we are pretty high up, it gets cold at night. It can also be very hot in the day, but be prepared this is on top of a mountain so it's not the super hot climate that most people think that Portugal has. We can have a fair amount of snow in the winter.
We can cater for vegetarians. We do eat milk, cheese, eggs and goat meat as we keep goats.Algo más...
You can enjoy being alone with the mountains up here, beautiful views, walks and nature. it is very quiet. It takes a 40min drive to get to any towns. The nearest villages are 10km away, and are very old beautiful villages.
We can collect you from a nearest town, but nowhere is near to us here, so please communicate well about your arrival.Un poco más de información
