Hello travelers and ocean lovers!

Enjoy life aboard a sailboat around beautiful islands in the Caribbean ocean. We're some friends coming from different parts of the world, but now found our (temporary) home in this amazing place.

3 years ago we started a project by renovating an old boat into a rental and event space (not sailable anymore). And now it's FINISHED!
We are very excited and grateful for all the help we received from volunteers along the way. In the last stage we want to start sharing on social media about our adventure. No influencers. Just old videos and images, maybe some new footage , and creative freedom. Let us know your skills (socials, editing, video,...) or what knowledge you can share with us.

In exchange you'll stay on your own private sailboat named happiness. We expect you to work independently 15/20h per week. You choose the timing you like and count the amount of hours. Mutual trust.
Enjoy this opportunity to get to know life on the water.

Looking for independent people! The boats are anchored close to town (Isla Colon), so it's easy to reach by taxi, by rowing or catch a ride with our dinghy if we're headed in the same direction ;)

This is a great opportunity to learn more about life on a boat. The basic tasks and 'survival skills'. 2 of us speak fluent Spanish and English, so you can practice your languages. In your spare time you can learn to surf or hike in the jungle. You can go on a bike ride to the amazing beaches or go snorkeling and discover the corals and fishes. Bocas is well known for its nightlife. Or maybe we can organize our own little boat parties together.

We mainly need help for creating content of the project boat. The boat is anchored for good, so no sailing help needed!

We expect you to work 15h-20h/week. This can be spread over 5 days or less. We will work together or give you tasks to complete independently.
No food is provided, but we can cook together on occasions.

You'll live on a sailboat by yourself. This needs some awareness and extra boat knowledge will be teached upon arrival. There's kitchen with cooking utensils, a toilet inside and an outside/inside shower. In the marina you can get a payed hot shower.
The boat is anchored close to town, reachable by taxi ($1), rowing (kajak provided) or hop on on our dinghy. Ofcourse we'll help you out with water and gas supply.
There is no wifi on board, but you can buy a sim card for $5 a week with unlimited data. Electricity is provided for lights and to charge your phone. No food is provided, but we can cook together on occasions.

As you'll live by yourself on a boat, we expect you to be independent and have the necessary self reliance skills. Ofcourse we'll be reachable by phone in case of emergencies.
It would be amazing if the boat gets ready to rent out this season, so we try to work in turbo mode. But our lives or not super structured. We love to enjoy the moments and try to fit in a lot of fun besides the hard work.

Dan and Lara stayed with us for 2 weeks, but it felt like a whole month. They helped us out so much. They work very independently, find jobs to do, listen to instructions and execute till the tinniest detail. They stayed on our sailboat and kept it really tidy. What a couple of weeks! Thank you, Nele and Juan, for taking us on board (pun definitely intended) at such short notice. We had an awesome two weeks of boat life and still miss 'our' little boat where we could jump into the sea from our doorstep!

Work here was very relaxed. Not much was required of us, and after a few days of working together… read more with us, Nele and Juan left us to continue with our project alone. Working hours and time off were very flexible, and we were able to work our 15h/week whenever we wanted....almost! We learned that we had to be very flexible when working on a boat:
we couldn't easily move our project inside when it rained, and if there was no sun we couldn't charge the batteries for the power tools... So our work hours depended a lot on weather conditions and how fully charged the batteries were.
Those were not the only things that made working on a boat challenging! The wooden platform we built for getting on and off the boat definitely didn't end up being the masterpiece we wanted it to be 😅
Making a straight cut on a rocking boat is already a challenge, but sitting in a little dinghy trying to undo bolts underneath the platform on the project boat without dropping tools in the sea...oops!
Our hosts were very understanding though, and didn't make a fuss about our mistakes or lost tools. Both of them were very kind and knowledgeable about living on a boat. They're quite quiet people and appreciate their workawayers being independent. Sometimes we found the communication a little bit difficult - maybe because a lot of it was through messages (the boats are too far apart to yell 😆) or because we were very dependent on them to solve all our little problems with the project.
However, none of this was a big problem and we still really enjoyed working for/with them :D

As for the accomodation: We LOVED 'our' little boat and massively enjoyed this introduction to boat life :)
It is good to bear in mind that you need to be independent here: You'll spend lots of time on the boat by yourself, you need to supply your own food and water, there's no fridge or shower etc. So very basic camping on water (with a gas cooker) :) With the boat's little dinghy you can get to the Marina (15min away) where you can get drinking water (25c/gallon), tap water or a shower ($2pp), or the town within ca. 30min with shops, cafés, etc. We also used the dinghy to row to nearby snorkeling spots (i.e. two sunken boats). Apart from that we mostly spent time on the boat - swimming, coming up with systems to collect rainwater, exploring bioluminescence at night, visiting the nearby floating bar, watching the pretty night sky, watching other ships and planes coming and going...it was great fun!

Nele and Juan - thank you again for making this awesome time possible, and especially for taking us in with just a day's notice when our other plans didn't work out :) Good luck with your project boat(s)!
