These awesome interdisciplinary volunteers met in Cameroon for six weeks+
Global Health, Global Public Health, Social Entrepreneurship, Design & Product Development, Vocational Skills Training, Child Development.
Thank you ALL very much for the amazing work you did from organizing and executing the Rural village outreach health fair, community connection and helping at the local orphanage, hospitals and local school.
Our Program offer volunteers from abroad a hands-on six (6) week program during summer holidays to undertake a multi-disciplinary international development experience to deepen their understanding of development issues , combined with a cultural immersion program.Volunteers work on small scalable poverty combating sustainable social and community development projects alongside local people addressing issues -Gender, Human Rights, Health, Food and Nutrition, Conservation, Education and Economic Opportunities.

Village Mobile Health Corp Volunteers
Help to bring health care to the remote rural poor villages and to educate them on how to prevent diseases and promote health and wellbeing
Setting up a short-term clinic in a remote village ; to allow the people to consult nurse practitioners, medical students and doctors and receive health and wellness education addressing the village health concerns such as Maternal Health, HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, together with a more focused cultural immersion component embedded throughout the Health Fair event.
Hygiene and good sanitation practices:
To teach the village people the importance of good sanitation in improving health and to ensure that villagers understand sanitary practices and the importance of using latrines

Nutrition/Horticulture
Volunteers to help setting up a garden at rural health center to promote nutrition and prevent malnutrition.a

Volunteers will work on a pilot cooperative program with the local medical center aimed at providing comprehensive health care to Women with disabilities and their children, many are also victims of domestic and sexual violence
Task
Investigating gaps and opportunities in the local medical health center system
Meeting with women with disabilities and staff at the local medical center to assess health needs and opportunities to develop future health projects
Conduct a needs assessment of women with disabilities who are pregnant or at risk for becoming pregnant
Determine needs of women with disabilities that would enable them to complete a full-term pregnancy
Help identify and/or develop appropriate interventions to reduce the number of fetal/child
Textile Artists, Crafters, Designers , Creative volunteers
You will assist in the delivery of handcraft workshops or you can design your own workshops that teach:
• Sewing, knitting and crochet patterns.
• Embroidery and weaving classes.
• Artisan natural soap making
• Teach new skills for gift and souvenir production; jewelry, toy making
Artisanal Soap Project Development Volunteers
Volunteers to assist a startup artisanal handcrafted soap production project. The artisanal handcrafted Soap Project aims to train and employ women with disabilities, and the income generated from sales of the handcrafted soaps locally and in export markets will be used to support health, educational and women’s human rights advocacy and activism programs.
Task
• Researching and gathering soap materials;
• Researching graphic designers product packaging and branding
• Development of supportive information and materials to convey the goals of the Soap Project to funders
• Researching funding charities working to increase women’s economic development to fund the soap project
• Volunteers will work closely with the soap project developers to supply both research information and novel ideas to guide the development of this entirely new soap production

Do you have a passion for traveling, fascination to nature, culture, photography: volunteer opportunity to develop a collection of initiatives that promote rural villages as a premier Service Learning Destination for students from abroad.
Volunteer tasks primarily focused on developing villages as a premier service learning destination for students from abroad , broken into three (3) key components starting with:
1. Community based service learning organizations and community development projects-
visits to organizations ,
interviewing, take photographs ,
selecting community development projects.
2. Cultural Immersion-
visit local artists and craft-makers to get an insight on their arts and crafts,
photograph and video the history, techniques ,materials they use , their music, dance and drumming..
Visit outdoors and nature tourism sites-waterfall adventure, horseback riding, hiking and sightseeing excursions. photograph and video
3. A Resource material for students :
produce a video and photographic compilation ,
digital outreach promotional brochures and displays materials for social media. organize a culminating photographic/Video exhibition for the participants , efforts to build on their village future as a service learning destination
Motivated destination tourism developers volunteers
As a volunteer you will assist with the creation of nature tourism attractions in the village which include waterfall trails, construction of a natural built small eco-lodge and a nature training center . Tasks may include:
• Teaching environmental protection awareness workshops to the village people.
• Training local village youths as guides.
• Leading and supervising local youths in the trail construction to the waterfalls.
• Making signs and maps to the various waterfalls.
• Designing and construction of a small bamboo and earth eco-lodge.
• Setting up a gardening center-digging and planting trees, vegetables and herbs
Photographer/Videographer Volunteer
(does not have to be a professional)-
Task
Filming a variety of workshops and rural village health clinic events
Conducting interviews with workshop participants and community facilitators
Creating a 10 minute promotional film for use online and in presentations
Creating a slideshow or short film
Translating and subtitling all material produced
Enhancing general online video and photography material
Other related as needed
Arrival: Your arrival airport is CITY-DOUALA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (DLA). We greet and pick up volunteers from the airport. You will spend your first night at a secured Catholic guesthouse in Douala city and travel the next day to our base in the village, which is a 5 hour journey by car.
Accommodation: All volunteers stay together in our gated comfortable guesthouse which can host up to 12 volunteers at any time. All except two bedrooms have en-suite toilet and (cold water) shower facilities. There is a furnished living room, dining room, office and kitchen with a gas cooker. There are outside covered and open patios around the building and a garden.
Eating: Three basic Cameroonian meals are included free as standard. Volunteers may, if they choose, shop for Western food in the big cities and prepare special meals for themselves
THINGS TO DO-
The village of Akum is a hiker's paradise with trails that lead through winding hillside paths and valleys to Mbatu lake , where you can swim and also visit a famous Catholic pilgrimage site. Other trails winds into the nomadic Mbororo cattle grazers community with majestic panoramic views of the valleys and clouds. Meet a very warm group of people along the way as they go about their routine daily lifestyle. Expect invitations to share a meal with their families.
Hike or ride a bike to the King of Akum’s dairy farm, where he will gladly welcome you and tell you all about his dairy project, this breed of dairy cattle are from the Netherlands. He has a true passion for agriculture and the young calf cannot get enough of him. Waterfalls viewing and climbing for the adventurous

Build the first Traditional Royal Heritage Eco-Bamboo hut.
To build traditional eco-huts by hand using mud , bamboo and other local materials

Music, singing, drumming and dancing are integral parts of the Akum village culture, and many of the songs and dances tell stories about their history and culture such as funeral rituals, marriage rites, and festivals

Traditional artisan dairy lesson at the nearby nomadic ethnic Mbororo people living in tents on the hills whose livelihood depend on cattle grazing-how they locally produce milk, cheese, butter.

Where to stay
Our Travelers and Volunteer guest house is accessible to the highway and in a gated safe and secure property within the community in the village for easy cultural immersion with the villagers.
The village is very safe and the guest house is clean .Travelers and volunteers can ride a taxi or motor bike to the city of Bamenda and visiting the other villages.
We offer in the main guest house, single private rooms and shared double and triple bedrooms , each bedroom has en-suite toilet and shower facilities . There is a furnished living room, dining room , kitchen and garden .
Our program office is on the first floor next to the communal area.
Additional two (2) rooms in an adjoining building next to the main house with a shared shower and toilet outside.
A homestay with a family is available , two (2) kilometers from the main guest house with shower and gas kitchen and private rooms
Our project presently located in the North West Region of Cameroon where the English language is widely spoken. The locals speak a dialect type broken pidgin english which is hard to understand at first, but you pickup quickly.
Each geographical region of Cameroon is different, the food, people, landscape and culture.
The North West Region is grassland vegetation, lots of mountains, rivers, lakes, some forest-not the rain forest of the south and east regions.
The South West Region-Ocean and the black beach as a result of the active Cameroon mountain in Buea. National parks. A view of Equitorial Guinea on a very nice day or nights with full moon shine.
We have networks in other parts of Cameroon to help volunteers to plan their individual travels after their volunteer service and we hope in the near future to have established, pre- qualified and rated networks around Cameroon.
