Welcome to our organisation in the community of Homa Bay at lake Victoria. I am Nixon, the founder of the organisation, and want to invite you to stay with me and my family for a while. I have a wonderful wife and three amazing children. My daughters are 16 and 10 years old and my son is 5.
I started the organisation in 2004 with the mission to create and promote opportunities for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community to become self-dependent and to build a better life for themselves and their families. We focus in particular on women and girls with a diffucult background or orphans, e.g. due to the post-election violence in 2007.
To improve their situation, we adress different problems in various projects:
Due a lack of finances or early pregnancies many children drop out of school. This causes a high unemployment rate especially among youths, girls and women. To give them another chance in life, we train them vocational skills and technologies to enable them to fend for themselves. They are trained in tailoring, computer, embroidery or T-shirt printing and design. By focussing on women and girls, we want to promote gender equality.
Our skill trainings are designed to create small businesses for our beneficiaries, which themselves are scalable. From parts of their profits, we can finance new projects and trainings to have a continuous growth and increase the number people we support. Parts also go to school fees of children from poor families who will also get the change to participate in our trainings after fininishing school.
We also cooperate with a local primary school/kindergarden which especially support orphans.
The HIV/AIDS pandemic has a significant socio-economic impact. So, we partner with a community clinic situated in the slum of Homa Bay, which offers testing and treatment for free in the community. We help in terms of awareness campaigns and counselling.
Due to a lack of education and awareness, especially girls suffer from school dropouts caused by early pregencies or missing weeks of school due to menstruation. The cooperating community clinic also offers courses about female hygiene, distributes reusable pads and informs about precautions for early pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.
Caused by an unsufficient medical system, many people loose their family members leaving children without parents or elderly people without support by their children behind. To support them, we organise visits and food donations, counselling and include them into our skill trainings of possible.
Our community also suffers from the impacts of climate change. The wheather phenomena got more extreme over the last years with severe droughts but also heavy floods, which both have impact on farming causing hunger and poverty. We support these families by sharing our ressources.
Unfortunately, a fire in 2019 destroyed most of our equipment for the project. We are still recovering from that and build up old projects but also add new ones. Therfore, we are happy about any new ideas and input we can try out here in Homa Bay.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

You can help in the community medical clinic, which offers different services to the members within the slum of Homa-Bay, as screening and testing of HIV/AIDS, preventive health services, guidance and counseling or trainings about health and hygiene. You can participate in any of these topics.
You can also work with orphans and vulnerable children from 2 years to 9 years. You can teach English, simple Maths, dances, songs and creative arts or any other subject according to your interest. Additionally, you can help in other everyday tasks at school.
If you have any special skills, you can support in our vocational training program. You can help in our current trainings of tailoring or emroidery, but you are also free to teach us new skills which we can spread in our commuity. We are currently organising some computer ressources, to also offer computer trainings in the near future. Unfortunately, all our computers were destroyed in the fire.
We currently lack of any kind of representation in the web. We also need help in creating a website or help us with social media.
We also plan to initiate a fishing project in lake Victoria. Feel free to support or share your ideas with us.
We also need support in fundraising. You can help us in starting campaigns, proposal writing or building partnerships with national or global organizations.
We want you to feel free to share your ideas an we will do our best to enable you to include them in our project.
We always create work pattern that enable volunteers to feel comfortable and we are always flexible in our activities. Our daily programs run roughly from 9.30 am – 12:30 pm (with a lunch break), and resumes at 2:30 pm until around 4.30 pm. But each volunteer is free to create his/her own schedule.Idiomas
