  • Description

I was born in the Philippines and raised in the United States since I was 3 years old. I have an education background in sustainable design, intern experience in conservation of ecosystems, and professional experience in project management.

In 2022, I joined workaway to learn and travel in my gap year. I joke that this period was my quarter-life crisis - if you're not familiar with this term, it's the milestone when young professionals (ages 24-28yrs) realize there is more to life than a corporate career. Following my gap year, I was accepted in a masters program, and now pursuing my Masters in Architecture. Outside of school, I'd like to do more workaways to practice building, art, and gardening. My focus is to practice the skills that I could not grow in an office and build connections along the way.

In quarantine I gained my PADI certification and discovered scuba diving. Someday I intend to settle down in the Arizona desert but until then I'm chasing more opportunities to live near the seas and explore the ocean. I also love to hike and make a point to catch an occasional sunrise in the mountains. As far as other hobbies, I dabble in more than I have time for - I can waste a day painting, self-taught on the guitar, and always ready to play a game of Chess or Catan.

I am among four kids, and my mother would also babysit 1-3 additional toddlers everyday as I was growing up. I found a lot of joy growing up in a busy house with little kids and I embrace the chaos of a family household. I'm definitely not shy about housework! My mother raised us to clean every day and bathe our pets every week, which may have been overkill; but it definitely taught me the discipline & organization necessary to maintain sanity in a large family. I love to cook and experiment with new recipes. I can spend a whole day in the kitchen finding delight in both the creation and clean up of a big meal to share.

I graduated from the University of Arizona and have a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments, which is a fancy way to say I studied natural landscapes and urban design. I spent two summers interning with conservation research and non-profit efforts. Now that I'm in between careers, I plan to use my off time to build my art portfolio and apply to a Masters in Architecture program this year.

  • More details about your skills

Labor: I worked 2 summers in conservation research and non-profits. We spent weeks in the Navajo Nation lugging around 50lbs of equipment each, replanting native vegetation, building natural water ways for storm runoff, and pulling out acres of invasive weeds. I have carved & built my own desk out of a 12-foot slab of red oak. I have minimal experience in building structures, but I'm scrappy and eager to learn. In quarantine, I was bored and spent hours in freezing temperatures to build igloo over 21 days - it stood strong and sturdy until the weather was too warm.

Scuba: I gained my PADI cert in 2020, and my advanced open water certification in 2021. Over the past four years, I've traveled to Fujairah for 4 dives, Tulum for a cenote dive, Tenerife for 2 dives, and the Philippines for 9 days of diving. I have my own 3mm wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, and dive computer.

Music: I was trained in piano for 7 years through the Suzuki method, and can mentor others in piano. I am self-taught on the guitar and have played for 12 years. I am now trying to learn the ukelele.

Cooking & Housework: No formal training, I just have a passion for cooking anything from french toast, smoothies, beer-battered fish, quiche, slow-roasted ribeye, etc. I can spend all day in the kitchen and be happy. I'm also very efficient at washing dishes, I grew up in a family of 6 and could wash a full day's worth of dishes in 15 minutes and have them sparkling clean.

Painting: Painting is my favorite medium of art. I work mainly with acrylics and find joy in painting sunsets and sunrises. I'd love to paint a mural to brighten your walls.

Photography: I have a mirrorless Sony Alpha6000 and my own Lightroom software for photo editing.
