Description
My mission is to live a mindful life and contribute some value through volunteering. It's all about sharing knowledge and helping one another.
From July 2022 to November 2023, I lived happily in the exciting cities of Tokyo and Osaka. Since leaving, I've visited Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and California. I spent time with friends and volunteering in Sri Lanka before travelling to India for a Vipassana meditation course. From India, I travelled to Morocco and Spain before returning to the UK at the end of January 2025.
Before visiting Japan, I spent three fantastic months travelling through the Catalan region. I'm happiest when travelling!
In August 2025, I began my South American adventure by travelling from Portugal to Colombia. From there, I travelled to Peru, Chile, Argentina/Patagonia, Brazil, Bolivia, and Ecuador. I'm now in the Colombian Amazon, and my next two stops are Santa Marta and Cartagena. After which, I fly to London and my South American adventure comes to an end. However, my next destination in 2026 is China.
I'm interested in ancient history and philosophy, as well as writing short stories, often with steampunk/futuristic themes. I enjoy volunteering at global Buddhist centres to be part of a mindful community, meditate and help quieten the mind.

I worked in the UK social sector for 16 years; it was challenging, eventful, and totally worth it. I have volunteered on a Kibbutz in the Negev desert, Buddhist communities in Scotland, England, France, the USA, Malaysia, and Brazil, and volunteered as an English teacher in Sri Lanka, Peru and Nepal. I have basic counselling qualifications and experience in mentoring. I have taught English online in the UK and in person in Japan. I graduated in 2019 with a BA (Hons).

Having Julie with us for two weeks was the best! She is so outgoing and ready to work and collaborate in any way that she really made it so easy and comfortable for all of us. Thanks to the lovely people at this place. My volunteer experience was valuable, and I enjoyed working with some interesting and wonderful people. The temple is beautiful and peaceful, and the surrounding area is good for walking meditation. Julie stayed with us for 3 weeks in autumn. She is clever, strong-willed, reliable and brave. Her many life experiences made dinner conversations very enriching.
