  • Description

Hi everyone, my name is Tom and I'm 23 years old from the UK.

I recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences (specialising in psychology and philosophy) and am keen to continue travelling, meeting people and experiencing the world.

I've had fantastic experiences with Workaway in the past, working for two fantastic NGO's who taught me an awful lot about humanitarian work, the values of which I've carried in my heart ever since. I'm thus motivated by a desire to help other people, specifically in the context of mental health struggles.

I'd say that meeting and being around people brings me the most happiness, followed closely by sport. I love to talk to people in unexpected places, unexpected contexts and thus make unexpected friends. We can learn something from everybody that we meet.

I'm a lifelong Chelsea fan and have played both football and cricket for as long as I can remember - though I can't promise that I'll be very good!

  • More details about your skills

I've volunteered and worked with various charities in the past four years, all with differing responsibilities and required tasks. I have experience:

    1. writing funding proposals for charitable and humanitarian organisations.
    2. dealing with local government to enact humanitarian change.
    3. working with vulnerable populations, to support both physiological and psychological needs.
    4. providing front line mental health care.
    5. marketing the charity to new volunteers.

I also spent many years working as a football coach for children aged between 18 months and 7, coaching over 100 children per day. As a consequence, I am very good at both teaching and communicating with young children. I'm not so good at football, unfortunately!
