Hello everyone! I'm Toby, a former marketing guy who's looking to get stuck into non-laptop life for a bit. Too many numbers and not enough soul nutrition.
I love travelling, having been fortunate enough to work remotely and travel around Asia for the last year of my job, developing a great affection for all the countries I visited (but especially Japan). Indeed, I spent the last winter in Sapporo learning to snowboard and Japanese! Now I miss it and want go back, firstly for ski season, and after that, to go on a motorbike tour across all four islands!
Professionally, my background is in marketing/copywriting/communications, where I managed online communities of 10,000+ people, teaching me how to deliver excellent customer service and communication. In addition, I've published articles on the first page of google, and have developed strong teamwork skills delivering marketing campaigns reaching 1M+ users. If you need help on this side of things, I'm happy to help.
Hospitality-wise, I help manage my mum's Airbnb business, including general housekeeping, cleaning and check-in etc. But, also the more technical sides of the business, such as implementing an automated check-in software system, and creating online guest resources (local food/drink guides etc.) directly integrated into google maps.
Other than that, I'm always happy to muck-in and do some hard labour. Currently, I'm volunteering my spare time at a food bank here in London, sorting meals and stacking shelves for the homeless, and I've previously worked as brand ambassador for Unicef, helping to raise funds with a friendly attitude, all whilst practicing my German.
Personally, I'm quite a friendly and philosophical person who loves writing in my diary and staying fit. History is also fascinating to me. So many fun stories which connect cultures. Favourite one might be the Greeks, who discovered buddhist 'gymnosophist' monks 2,000 years ago when Alexander the Great reached India, and subsequently became the first (sort-of) western hippies/buddhists. Or indeed, that the first ever novel written by a woman was in Japan!
Hobby-wise, bouldering, tennis, reading, snowboarding/skiing, bass, photography all switch around at various times.
Hope to connect with you soon!Interests

More details about your skills
I'll start with the corporate/professional skills. Other stuff is at the bottom.
Copywriting /Editing- I've written over 100 blogs/announcements in addition to website and app copy. Also familiar with SEO if you want to try and increase your page visibility on google, with multiple top page google articles under my belt (although this isn't a simple or quick process fyi).
Social Media - Also managed social media, writing thousands of tweets and increasing our company's X (twitter) following from 5,000 to 70,000. Also can offer some tips/help on increasing your business visibility online. Also did plenty of customer relations/PR and online community management.
Photography/Editing - My camera's definitely better than my skill level, but more than happy to be of service here. Should have a flash too if helpful, although no wide lens for room shots. I'm mainly just a hobby photographer who goes for arty shots, but more than happy to try and adapt to your needs.
People skills - Used to work as a charity fundraiser for Unicef, so have plenty of experience interacting and connecting with the public. Aside from that, I also used to help run an after school kids club when I was younger!
Languages: I speak both English (fluently) and German (almost fluently), in addition to currently learning Japanese (about 500 words/A2 level currently).
Manual labour: Whether chopping logs, clearing out houses for my elderly relatives, or volunteering at my local food bank to carry and deliver food around!
Other Relevant: International Driving License, takes pride in washing the dishes perfectly, reasonably competent chef (my apple crumble was rated 10/10).Age
26
What else ...
Think it's all in the description. Or real quick: snowboarding, tennis, bouldering, books (recent favs include Severed Head, Kafka on the Shore and Shuggie Bain) , sci-fi, motorbiking, peep show, bass (I'm rusty), funky music, photography and probably some others I forgot.
