  • Description

We are very excited to begin our adventure in Japan.
First, a few words about us.

    Thomas:
I am 29 years old, live in Lyon, and enjoy nature, hiking, and traveling. I am interested in the arts, such as music, cinema, and drawing. I have already had the opportunity to travel for 4 months in Colombia, 2 months in Scotland, 6 months in England, and 5 months in West Africa, where I experienced workaway for the first time in August 2022, more specifically in Ghana. Since then, I have returned to work in France, but my contract as a water and environmental engineering project manager will soon come to an end, so I am leaving again in August 2026 for Japan with Heïdi. I can't wait to try workaway again. In Ghana, I was welcomed for two weeks by Lawrence and his family, who introduced me to life in small villages and the cultivation of corn and cassava, and with whom I began building a shelter for children who had to travel far from their families to attend school. In Senegal, Dianko's extended family welcomed me for two weeks in a peaceful haven on the Atlantic coast, surrounded by papaya and banana trees. I hope to repeat these enriching experiences during our trip to Japan, meet incredible people, and participate in fulfilling and interesting projects.

    Heïdi:
I am 25 years old and live in Rouen. I also love nature, traveling, hiking, music, dancing, drawing, and I am always enthusiastic and energetic. I am a sixth-year medical student. I have already had the opportunity to travel for six months in Italy, two months in West Africa, and one month in Albania, where I had my first wwoofing experience at a local campsite. I am coming to the end of my studies in August, and Thomas and I are taking advantage of this to go to Japan, where I hope to have a new workaway experience.

During our previous trips, we discovered that we particularly enjoy “slow” adventures that allow us to enjoy the journey and take the time to meet people along the way. What's more, we believe that to truly discover a place, it's interesting to meet the people who live there. So, participating in a local project with local people can only be an incredible experience. Giving our time to help people carry out a project is a good way to thank them for introducing us to their country. This was confirmed by our wonderful experiences in Ghana, Senegal, and Albania. Knowing that we plan to stay in Japan for at least three months, it seems obvious to us that we should do workaway to discover this country, its people, and its culture in the best possible way. To do this, we are ready to get involved in any type of project and give our time and energy. We can do DIY, cleaning, gardening, planting, clearing land, cooking, teaching French, participating in artistic projects, and much more. We look forward to meeting you on the road.
