  • Description

Hi! My name is Tatjana, though some of my friends call me Stella. I am fine with either :)

I joined workaway back in 2019 and mostly had really wonderful experiences with it!
Sharing skills, stories, meals, and memories is what being human is basically all about so workaway really spoke to me as someone who is seeking to make genuine connections with other people and learn and grow along the way.

At the moment I am in Mexico for the second time, excited to see more of this beautiful country after my first (rather brief) visit in early 2023.
I have a great interest in learning languages because I love how it opens up one's mind to new ways of expressing oneself and looking at the world. I want to keep improving my Spanish and would love to learn some more Portuguese as well.

I have worked many different jobs in my life... mostly low-wage, minimum-wage, or unpaid. I was a waitress, a kitchen hand, a sales assistant, a receptionist, an actor, performer, singer, and writer. I did promotion jobs, window dressing, and visual merchandising. I cleaned appliances, prepared food, counted money, and assisted many customers. I also studied for a bit and I have acquired a few basic gardening and constructing skills while traveling and working as a volunteer. But what I love most is creating art.

Some things that I would like to learn and/or get better at are sewing, video editing, drawing, yoga practice, and skills for self-sustainability such as composting, growing fruits and vegetables, building, repairing, and repurposing things, etc.

I love spending time in nature, but I kind of love big cities, too. I enjoy hot summer days and nights that never get cold but I also appreciate a chilly evening at a campfire every once in a while. Generally, I can handle extreme heat much, much better than being cold, though.

That I love traveling is probably quite obvious or I wouldn’t be here. However, I am looking for ways to travel more sustainably, like spending an extended period of time in a specific place, to take everything in and truly get to know local people as well as other travelers who share similar values. I like to not plan too far ahead, to keep an open mind, to see where life, the universe, fate — whatever you want to call it — will lead me.
Well, for now it has led me here and I can’t wait to explore and make new connections!

  • More details about your skills

I think my best skill is my ability to learn and adapt to new routines quickly as well as the fact that I am a very thoughtful person.
Other than that I can cook tasty, healthy vegan meals which I quite enjoy doing. (But if you're not into that I'm also happy to cook only for myself.) I’m pretty good at teaching, I think, and I’m a fast learner. I do not consider any type of work "beneath me", as long as I am treated with respect. In my opinion, "unskilled labor" is a lie.
What I love doing the most is writing, reading to people, drawing, acting/performing, singing, and dancing to electronic music while sober.
Generally speaking I am a very artistic person but I am open for pretty much any kind of work and eager to expand my knowledge and learn new skills!

  • What else ...

I might come across as introverted sometimes since I enjoy spending time on my own and I also try to respect other people's personal space, especially if they invite me into their home. (Though apparently some people interpret that as "locking myself in my room" which I wish I had been told while I was still there and not afterwards, but hey... I'll try to learn from it still.)

In a social setting, such as a hostel, I tend to be a lot more sociable and I enjoy being around people a lot, too.

I value open, honest, and clear communication, as well as active listening because I find that it helps prevent — or at least sort out — conflicts, as most of them seem to be based on misunderstandings.

I feel incredibly grateful to be able to travel with relative ease, and would like to use this privilege as a force for good, to make the world a better place not only for myself but for everyone I share this planet with.
Let's get together, inspire each other, and get creative! ✨

    • Allergies
No, but I choose to abstain from all animal products out of respect for all sentient beings.

    • Special dietary requirements
I mainly eat a whole foods plant based diet, which means in addition to being vegan I avoid highly processed foods such as oil or refined sugar. Like I have mentioned before, I am happy to cook my own meals.
