My name is MaKenzie and I am from a small town in the United States.
This past summer, I spent six weeks traveling Iceland via workaway. Wow, what a summer! To say that it changed my life, would be an understatement. I learned more about myself and this world than ever before and now I am so excited to have yet another adventure in the summer of 2020.
If I were to describe myself, I'd say I am outgoing, proactive, patient with children, and pleasantly mannered (and love a good laugh).
Home is a family farm with my parents, in Georgia. Over the years, we have had a variety of animals including dairy goats, a horse, chickens, and pigs.
Since 2017, I have been interested in foraging for medicinal/edible plants and mushrooms.
Currently, I am going to school to become a registered nurse. It has been an amazing journey so far, and I am looking forward to pursuing a career in the medical field.
Out of school, I am a professional portrait and wedding photographer. I started my own business in 2017 and I have had all sorts of photography opportunities, from shooting for a magazine to capturing mountainside engagements. Getting to travel allows me the ability to go out and capture more of this beautiful world we live in.
Cooking has become one of my hobbies over the years, and I love trying new foods (even the rotten shark from Iceland). Also, during quarantine, I have been trying out some new bread recipes and can make a mean sourdough bread loaf. ;)
In 2016, my family began fostering children, and since then we have had 7 kids from 2 months to 9 years, so babysitting is no trouble.
While in Iceland, I stayed with a family who owned two guesthouses (11 rooms total) and assisted guests, helped cook breakfast and dinner for them, and cleaned the rooms.
My motto is Þetta reddast, meaning that life will work itself out. Who knows where our feet will take us, so let's just go with it.
-maintaining guesthouses and guest relations
-housework (I like organization ;))
-gluten-free baking (yes, even sandwich bread that is better than Udi's)
-fiber arts (including knitting, crocheting, and embroidery)
-experience with website building and social media (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
I am from the South, and can make some tasty biscuits and gravy for breakfast! However, I normally like to cook healthy foods and like to try new recipes.
No, thank God
