Hi!
My name’s Ruby, I’m a friendly and curious person in Canada for a year abroad! I'm currently at U of T, Toronto in my final year of Mechanical engineering. I really like a challenge, and get on well with younger kids and animals (I have a younger brother and we always had pets growing up (cats, dogs etc))
I'm looking for a workaway place for me and my close friend Lola, for a couple weeks in May-June. We've been friends since 17 and are both super practical, hardworking and like having fun!!
I worked on a farm in France through workaway in 2022, before I started Uni, which was an amazing amazing experience! I learnt about organic farming, shearing sheep, plaiting garlic and learnt loads from the lovely family I lived with.
I also have experience working at my grandparents in rural france over summers, mainly gardening, building plant beds, sheds, walls, outside stairs etc and helping around the house. I also volunteered with a homeless charity while at college and all through the pandemic, so have plenty of experience mass catering and can work well in a team! I think it’s really important to aid in the community you live in, and was very lucky to get to know people through it that I would’ve otherwise not crossed paths.
I really like climbing, cycling and reading, as well as more creative crafts (sewing, embroidery, I recently learnt how to crochet!) I always have a pack of cards on me, and love learning new board/card games.Interests

Have been working part time since 16, in cafes, bakeries, worked as a barista and prep chef. I like working in teams and take initiative :)
I am trained on larger machines (CNC lathes etc) and hand tools through my job at the university workshop, supporting and advising other engineering students to work safely with the equipment. I also worked on a bike sustainability project, helping fix up abandoned bikes at my uni to be used by other students, and worked at the repair cafe teaching basic bike maintenence :)
I have babysitting experience, and lots of younger relatives and family friends that I’ve grown up around so have a good understanding of kids as well :)
My parents, friends and other relatives have taught me to cook while growing up, I have a handful of favourite recipes I know by heart now but I’m always eager to learn new ones and new cooking skills!Age

The work was very varied, engaging and straightforward; I sheared a sheep for the first time, planted veg, and dug up and plaited garlic among many other things!
