Description
Ciao, I'm Rosie! I'm 20, a second year student at Durham University (UK) studying Modern Languages (Spanish and Italian). I'll be embarking on my year abroad from Sept 2024 - June 2025, in which I aim to improve my fluency in both Spanish and Italian through working. I'm working in Peru from Sept 2024 - January 2025, but would love to find a workaway in Italy from February 2025 - June 2025.
For my general interests, I enjoy many different sports, from rowing and running to horse riding, I've always had an interest and appreciation for nature and simple living, especially with regards to the way cooking and farming feeds into this in different cultures. There is a heavy focus on the study of culture in my degree, so my interests feed into this.
My biggest passion is horse riding- I started when I was six and haven't stopped since! My role at Crudwell Riding School, as a groom, ranged from caring for the 18 horses on the yard, to helping my boss train young horses ready for use in the riding school and teaching children about care of the horses/ providing riding lessons. Having worked there for seven years, I then worked for a dressage Grand Prix rider for two years. I feel my experience with horses has taught me to adapt to various roles on the yard and work with different horses.
I did a workaway on a farm near Siena last summer for a few weeks and had an amazing time, so I would love to replicate this experience, but for a minimum of four months this time. I hope to discover more of Italy with workaway, having previously only fleetingly visited the likes of Roma, Firenze and Venezia.

I have grown up in the countryside working with horses a lot of my life, and also a little on farms; so I have plenty of experience with animals. At home we have a big garden and I have always helped out with general tasks, from chopping trees to weeding, planting and harvesting from the orchard. I've also worked in catering so have experience with making food and generally working in the kitchen. Similarly, I've had some experience as an au pair so would also enjoy working with children.
