Hi there,
Thank you for reading my profile!
I am back in England having paused my career in Japan, where I have been working as an English teacher for a total of 8 years, in three different stints.
I started my latest sabbatical in Tasmania, and I am now looking for interesting experiences in places closer to home (within the UK) for summer/autumn, then mainland Europe in the winter.
Five years ago, on a previous break from teaching, I enjoyed numerous wonderful and varied experiences with workaway hosts in Scotland (sheep farming, dog-sitting), Norway (running a guesthouse in the Lofoten Islands) and Chile (farming in Patagonia).
I am a well-travelled, mature, independent but sociable person who is easy to get along with, and I am always looking to learn new skills.

I am eager to help in any way as I am a quick learner and open-minded.
I have experienced a whole range of tasks during my workaway experiences so far, e.g. painting, cleaning, log splitting, gardening, animal care, farming, heavy lifting, general house maintenance, and so on.
I like to keep myself in good shape so I am fit and would be fine with any physically demanding work.

I am very much an animal lover, so I would particularly enjoy workawaying in an environment full of pets!
I am also good with children, given that I am an elementary school teacher by profession, with five nieces and nephews who I love interacting with :)
I will always be a willing helper in the kitchen when needed, and I actually enjoy washing up - it's therapeutic!

Richard was an excellent Workawayer. He did everything we asked and learnt quickly how to use all the electrical tools that we have for gardening. We have a large mower and he got the hang of that quickly. About the only piece of equipment that he did not use was the Caterpillar - which takes weeks to master! Richard is an interesting, pleasant and hardworking guy. He is cheerful and willing to have a go at anything. Worrying about what he likes to eat is no problem as in emergencies just give him a tin of Heinz baked beans. He was a pleasure to host and hope he finds lots of interesting placements for the rest of his gap year.

Richard was fantastic with my pups. They loved each other from the first walk and feed!!!
I was away for most of the time but my husband was around and "tried" to cook for Richard. Not all meals were successful!
I would definitely recommend Richard for any work - he is very adaptable.
