  • Description

Hi! my name is Rahi! I'm currently living in New York City in the United States, but I'm originally from India. I'm 24 years old, and I work as a junior research scientist in a molecular biology lab. I have had the opportunity to travel around various states in the US, and countries around Europe and Central America. My name also means a traveler, so I wholeheartedly believe that my life is constantly being stitched together by all the roads that I have taken and will take, along with the people that I meet along the way that constantly shape my beliefs and experiences about other cultures and humanity in general. I believe that how we choose to see the world is a mere reflection of who we are. I love sustainable and long term travel, which is where workaway comes into play. I think it's a great platform that will allow me to connect to people whose life I can positively impact by helping out for a couple hours a day as well as receive a lovely insight into their way of life and their culture. I’m looking forward to sharing my time and aspects of my life and journey with people I meet along the way.

More details about my language interests
I have taught ESL, or English as a Second Language, for about 2 years online. I have worked with Chinese students directly via 2 companies called QKids and IQBar. I was brought up in India, where I lived for the first 15 years of my life, which makes me fluent and willing to teach Hindi and Gujarati. I would love to teach English, Hindi, or Gujarati, and in return learn a new language from you :)

  • More details about your skills

I have a little bit of experience with gardening in my backyard, house sitting, cooking and other chores that one is required to do when one lives by herself! I also worked at a farm for a month in my first workaway experience, and I'm also volunteering at a community garden here close to where I live in Brooklyn, which has taught me a lot about sustainable agriculture and gardening. I have worked in research for the past 3 years too, which has taught me some other skills that could be useful, such as time management, communication, multitasking, etc. I also have experience with teaching math and science to students 4-14 years of age while I worked at UCMAS and a summer camp organized by them. I also taught ESL online for 2 years with QKids and IQBar, which are based in China and UK respectively. I also have a 120 hour TEFL certification earned from MyTEFL, which is an internationally accredited institution.

  • What else ...

I have carefully nourished my love for writing over the years. I am the owner of 3 Wordpress blogs where I like to share about travel, poetry, photography, and insights into myself by understanding the world around me. I love having philosophical discussions about pretty much anything the other person can get me going with, walks on a stormy beach, hiking, kayaking, stargazing in the dead of the winter while laying on a frozen lake. I have a desire for indulgence into music as well, especially Indian classical music. I wish to learn and familiarize myself with instruments such as the Sitar, Flute, Santoor, Sarod. I appreciate art of all kinds. One of my favorite painters is Albert Bierstadt.
