  • Description

Hello!! My name is Quinn and I'm from Ontario, Canada with a dream of exploring the world through volunteer programs such as this! I want my experience with Workaway to be one I learn from, whether intellectually or culturally, I want to come away from it having learned or experienced something unique. I love working with people and thrive off of the connections I can make with others in any given space. A huge item on my bucket list is to visit every continent at least once, (even Antarctica although I hate the cold). Some things I find joy in are reading and content creation, both things I like to do in my spare time.

In terms of work experience, I've been working part-time consecutive jobs since I was 15 years old. In that time I've had 2 long-term positions and one seasonal contract. My first job was for a company that owned wedding venues as well as a catering company. I rotated between venues as well as working for their catering company, which occasionally included going "off-site" to other venues. The job included setting up and tearing down events, serving up to 5-course meals, polishing silverware, and general tidying of the venue. After a year and a half, I moved on to Indigo (Canada's largest book retailer). I originally started as a seasonal staff member but was asked to stay on and renewed my contract with them as a member of their part-time staff. Indigo is very customer service-based work. I worked directly with people to assist them in finding books, making recommendations, problem-solving issues with online ordering, and cash handling. I took a break from Indigo to take a seasonal restaurant job from July to September. I worked full-time as a host and managed wait times, took drink orders, handled all phone calls, and placed and received orders for takeout. When the contract ended this September I returned to Indigo as a member of their seasonal staff which is where I currently work.

I also have over 70 hours of volunteer experience from powerlifting meets to teaching in museums. I have participated in colour runs, helped run an exhibit for The Rolling Stones, pen paled to students in Nunavut and more.

  • What else ...

Another hobby I didn't mention previously is that I enjoy playing video games in my spare time! I play everything from The Sims 4 to Valorant. I try to play something new every once and a while to not get bored. Right now I'm enjoying The Finals.

Although I am an extrovert, in terms of hobbies I prefer things on the quieter side I can do by myself. I like to read, journal, and write, and recently I've been learning to bake! I am always open to an adventure, but when I'm at home I prefer to engage in quieter and introverted activities.
