Description
Hi there! I’m Oli – a 33-year-old solo traveler from Germany, currently exploring Latin America and looking for more grounded, meaningful ways of living – ideally in connection with nature, people and purpose.

I work as a freelance web designer, mostly focused on developing websites, SEO, and graphic design. To sustain my journey, I currently need about 3 hours per day with a stable internet connection — ideally in the mornings for my European clients. At the same time, I’m consciously transitioning towards less screen time and a lifestyle more rooted in hands-on work and community life. Apart from my online tasks, I’m glad to help with anything that’s needed: from gardening and cooking to maintenance, construction, cleaning, or taking care of animals.

I enjoy a wide range of activities – from calm forest walks and intense hikes to adrenaline-based adventures – and I also love the ocean. As a certified Advanced Open Water Diver, discovering marine life has become another passion of mine, complementing my interest in exploring natural environments.

People often describe me as calm, thoughtful and a good listener, but also curious and humorous. I’m deeply interested in intentional communities, holistic living, and I’ve recently developed a strong desire to learn to play a musical instrument. If there’s one around – especially a guitar – I’d be happy if you could teach me a few things! On a small and simple scale, I also enjoy painting – for example creating signs or little art pieces. I’ve done this a few times before for hostels and workaways, though it’s nothing professional, just something I like to contribute when it fits.

Through friends and fellow travelers I’ve seen how Workaway can create meaningful connections and experiences. I’m now excited to continue building my own path here and contribute my skills while learning new ones along the way.

I work professionally as a freelance web designer and can help with anything related to websites, WordPress, SEO, online marketing or branding. I also have solid experience in graphic design and regularly use tools like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop on a professional basis.

Beyond the digital world, I really enjoy being active and learning new skills. I’m good with dogs and hold the highest official dog handling certificate in Germany. I also love being a good host – whether it’s helping organize small events, preparing spaces, or creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

I’m native in German and speak English fluently, so I’m happy to teach or help with language practice. My Spanish is still very basic, but I’d love to improve it and I’m always open to practicing!

Oliver is a very positive, proactive, and respectful person. He plans his activities and always finishes the task assigned on time and of good quality.

I had a great stay at Ricardos place! The communication with him was always fast & easy. I did some painting, gardening, optimizing the outdoor gym & cleaning. Easy and relaxed tasks, and he is not strict about the hours. It's more about having a task, finishing it and thats it :) He wants you to have a relaxing jungle experience.

I was there… read more with my motorcycle, which made it a lot easier for me to go to town to buy groceries. His place is in the jungle, not at the beach (some people might think that), so getting to town might take a while, if you don't have a car or motorcycle. You should bring a headlamp, or at least a flashlight, to see what you step on when it's dark. There is a massive swimming pool, which I enjoyed a lot. I also used the outdoor shower every day, which is a magical thing to do!

One of the cenotes is in the back, which is more like a construction cenote right now. The other one is closer to the big palapa, its nice and give the area a special feeling - but it's not deep enough to go for a swim. You will find a small outdoor gym, which is a really amazing idea to set up! If you have ideas to extend the gym, you are more than welcome to just do it. In general he is very open for any ideas to improve the place, no matter what idea you have.

I really enjoyed my time in one of the hammocks, reading a book and listening to the jungle sounds. It's really peaceful. In the big palapa, you fill find the outdoor kitchen, which is very basic but enough. You only have one stove, so better to cook something simple! Ricardo provides you with a box of basic stuff like: rice, beans, sugar, salt, pepper, coffee, oil, and probably sometimes some stuff from previous volunteers. There is no fridge, so keep in mind to only buy fruits and vegetables for no more than 2 days.

The wifi signal was good, good enough for me to do my remote work online, even at the volunteers house it was still okay.

Ricardo invited me to go kayaking and salsa dancing, unfortunately I had other plans on both occasions, so not having these experiences is on me!

During my time there I was the only volunteer, and I spent most of the time alone. I had some nice but shorter talks with Ricardo, but if you don't like to be alone too much, maybe try to find someone to join (or ask upfront if someone else is there). I enjoyed it very much, it can give you inner peace and gratitude, to be on your own for a while, surrounded by the jungle!
