  • Description

I have always been motivated by the desire to make a change in the world. A passion for environmental conservation and protection is what inspired me to study Environmental science in university. Being immersed in nature is something that brings me true happiness which I imagine stemmed from extensive time spent living in a caravan in one of the beautiful natural settings in the world with no running water of electricity for much of my childhood. Travel is the other aspect of my life that I have found to bring me true joy. Meeting people, sharing stories and laughter is something that I personally find so fulfilling. Since graduating college I have been teaching English in South Korea. Working every day with kids and seeing their progression both academically and socially has really brought an added light to my life that I didn't know was missing, after all "We conserve what we love, we love what we are understand and we understand what we are taught".

  • More details about your skills

I have a wide variety of skills gained from my university studies and also from my experience working in numerous different sectors.

I have both theoretical and practical knowledge about maintaining, protecting and also sustainably utilising resources from numerous ecosystems. When conducting development in ecologically sensitive areas I have experience in minimising the impact on flora and fauna. Last year I created a completely original method of butterfly egg translocation for a species that was previously overlooked as deserving of conservation status in a successful attempt at combating the impact of urbanisation. Working tirelessly over the course of 9 months I planned, directed and studied the protection and enhancement of a population of butterflies that was previously destined to a globalization driven obliteration.

I have both studied and worked in situations that require a high level of both written and oral communication skills. In addition to the countless projects and presentations I have given throughout my studies, I have worked in numerous professions that have required the highest level of communication in order to succeed. An example of this is the time I spent working in a 100% commission based direct sales environment that demanded the utmost professionalism when dealing with customers from countless cultural and economic backgrounds. Working in this industry my focus was completely client based as I drew up contracts that would best suit their needs and requirements. This theme of providing timely, empathetic help that keeps customers’ needs at the forefront of every interaction.

I have also gained numerous skills from working in a 4 star hotel, which was honestly one of my favourite jobs I have ever done. I gained experience across all aspects of the hotel industry working in the reception, bar, restaurant and housekeeping. I worked to achieve high customer satisfaction rates by providing optimal customer service through prompt and professional delivery of food and drinks. This job gave me an opportunity to greatly enhance my interpersonal and teamwork skills. Extra roles I took on were of a supervisory nature, including but not limited to locking up the bar and restaurant after service was ceased, counting the days takings and lodging this into the safe and accounts. The job location enabled me to live in a coastal environment and study the environmental issues that are common in this ecosystem such as habitat modification and exploitation of resources, this allowed me to aid in conservation efforts including multiple beach clean-up operations.

In my current job as a teacher, I am responsible for providing english education to students who want to further their understanding of the language. I have absolutely loved every second of my teaching experience and would be delighted to share the joys of learning with anyone who is willing to listen. This role has given me the opportunity to inform and inspire the future of this planet with the single aim of making each child both realise and reach their full potential. Through English I am teaching my students about the beauty and importance of preserving planet earth. I have used this opportunity to further enhance my communication and presentation skills, as I focus on different methods of successfully engaging a broad range of audiences with varying understanding and interest in what I am talking about. I recognise that my role and duties as a teacher is not just limited to providing education, it requires that I set a good example as a positive role model, whom these children can look to for help and guidance.

When I was out of work during the Covid pandemic I decided to use the time to volunteer for a charity organisation that raises money for the most vulnerable in society by turning old and unwanted clothes and household items into resell-able products to generate cash, reduce waste and enhance sustainability. This job gave me the skills required to recognise use and value in items that perhaps otherwise may be overlooked. It also taught me a great deal about the value and responsibility we have as humans to reduce our consumption and live more sustainably focused lives.
