To me, life's greatest pleasures are food, music, art, books; conversation, meeting strangers, eating together.

I love to travel, to learn, to offer myself up to new experiences. Workaway will offer a greater depth of cultural investigation and exchange than any experience I could have traveling alone. I hope it will allow me and the people of a community to make a real connection with each other, and to get to know each other in a way that does justice to the nuances of our cultural backgrounds.

I have always been interested in language, not only in an academic context but the language of casual conversation, of online communication, of formal and informal correspondence; the language of novels, drama, and song lyrics. This interest has been useful to me in my previous positions as a language teacher: it has offered me many angles from which to examine and explain the nuances of English, especially to my French students whose knowledge of English was informed primarily by American popular culture. Very interested in language exchange! I have spent many years learning French and am teaching myself Japanese and German.

Workaway m'offrira des expériences et l'échange culturelle plus profondes que celles du voyage solitaire. J’espère qu'il me permettra de faire des vraies relations, et d'apprendre à se connaître dans une manière qui fera honneur à nos millieus sociales.

J'ai toujours été intéressé par les langues, pas seulement dans une contexte académique, mais la langage de la conversation détendu, la conversation intime, la communication en ligne, de la correspondence ; la langue des romans, du drâme, des paroles des chansons. Cet intérêt m'a été util dans mon poste d'enseignant, : il m'a offert plusieurs angles à partir desquels examiner et expliquer les nuances d'anglais, en particulier à mes élèves français pour qui anglais été surtout la langue des series Netflix. Très intérressé par l'échange linguistique ! Je passais plusieurs années en apprenant le français, et au moment je m'enseigne le japonais et l'allemand (dont je ne peux pas parler ni l'un ni l'autre—pas encore !).

I have studied/spoken French for a long time but have become rusty in recent years, and would like to improve my skills. I have been teaching myself Japanese for a little while and am just starting to learn German. One day I would like to learn Russian, Mandarin, and Spanish.

I like to work with my hands; I like to think that anything broken can be fixed with a little patience and effort!
