I'm available starting January.
Hi, my name is Mike and I’ve been on workaway for a number of years now.
I just recently used it while traveling in Europe, and now I’m back in the states and looking for a new opportunity.
This time, I’m less focused on location of where I’m going and more interested in learning. I’ve started to develop an idea to buy some land and start a homestead but the idea is new and so is the work. I’ve done a handful of light construction projects and minimal gardening in the past, but I’m looking to really expand my knowledge in this whole area. My goals of learning are:
1) Construction / Building: Whether it be to hammer nails or measure beams, I want to learn all I can about building, using tools, earthships, using recycled or reclaimed materials, woodworking, and on and on. I really want to help and expand my knowledge in any of this.
2) Permaculture / Gardening: As with construction, I know very little about growing my own food. I want to learn about basic gardening, herbs, vegetables, soil, permaculture techniques, harvesting, composting.
These two broad areas include learning about: composting toilets, felling trees, trail maintenance, basic homesteading or off-grid property upkeep, creative projects.
I really want to take a hard look at what it takes to do this work beyond youtube videos and reading. If I can get some serious experience in helping on a farm or with an off-grid community, I can see how I can make it work for myself.
Outside of wanting to expand experience, I am enthusiastic to spend time in nature, in solitude, and with silence. In my off time, I enjoy being out in the woods or overlooking a creek with my thoughts. To work a day building something or in the garden, and then able to go and relax outside in nature, is a dream.
I’m also currently working on a writing project, so I want to separate myself from the noise and busyness of city living and connect deeper with my project.
I’m hard working, reliable, responsible, and considerate. I also consider myself a bit old school, so I have no social media, and if something comes up and I can’t make it, I’ll tell you in advance.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.
