  • Description

Hello! My name is Maureen (Mo). I am 22 years old and currently reside in San Francisco working as a Behavioral Aide and Associate Teacher at a local preschool. I additionally nanny for a family of twins on the side. I recently graduated in July 2024 with degrees in Environmental Studies and Psychology from University of California, Santa Cruz, and hope to either get back in school and/or pursue my passion for environmental conservation in the coming years!
I have always been eager to explore new places and become exposed to new and unique lifestyles from a young age. Growing up in both Washington and California has granted me the privilege of falling in love with both forestry and beaches, especially having grown up with my father's deep love for camping; my early life was abundant with road trips in our camper trailer and minivan along the Sierra Nevada mountain range. My childhood experiences as well as my college education have paved the way for a deep interest in our environment, and I have made a conscious effort to prioritize carving out time in my work week and weekends to reconnect with nature in whatever way I can, especially now that I live in a city and my current work focus is not within the environmental field. I am eager to touch any blade of grass I can and visit as many places as possible whenever I have the time!
I am planning on coming to Ireland this upcoming June to visit my family who resides in Donabate. I figure this trip would be the perfect opportunity for me to tap into a side of Ireland I have yet to experience, and broaden my skill set and experience with farming and gardening.
I have experience with plants and ecosystem care through my time interning at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum as well as volunteering when I could at the UCSC Farm. I have also done a Workaway on a farm in Maui in Summer of 2022, where I spent my time being the farm baker, working their farmstand, and caring for their children. My skill set includes invasive plant removal, harvesting, planting fruit and citrus trees as well as California native plants, and general farm and garden upkeep and maintenance. I also have lots of experience (7 years!) in childcare.

  • More details about your skills

I grew up assisting my father with his home garden in San Diego, offering him a hand in weeding and maintaining the Bougainvillea growing on our fence as well as planting/watering his seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Most of my skills regarding environmental work and plant care developed throughout my time in Santa Cruz with interning at the campus arboretum and volunteering at their greenhouse and farm. I learned about transplanting and taking care of the plants at the greenhouse rotation house as well as how to repot small trees or picking up various tasks assigned to me each visit. I learned how to harvest and clean seasonal veggies at the Farm as well as how to operate a larger scale irrigation system. At the arboretum, I learned how to install irrigation drip lines, plant native plant species, operate a weed whacker, Kubota, and lawnmower to clear out wild overgrown grasses and allow for new plant projects.

I have over seven years of experience in childcare and nannying, as well as my current job as a preschool teacher.

I have experience in baking following my prior workaway experience in baking an estimated six batches of muffins daily for their farmstand.

I have some experience in minimal construction with helping my dad build tables and stools for his physical therapy clinic. I have a general knowledge on building household items and would be willing to expand my knowledge in this area.
