Description

Hello! I am Michela, I have recently finished my university studies and I would really like to take a little break before officially entering the working world. I thought, what could be better than going to places I've never seen before and learning new skills, all while helping out with ongoing project or business around the world?
It would be my first experience as a Workawayer and I am so excited about the idea to start an adventure like this. I am looking especially for outdoor activites, even in contact with animals, to deepen my connection with nature and learn about life far from noisy and busy cities.
It would also be an amazing opportunity to improve my English and possibly approaching different languages and cultures, and I am ready to share my knowledge about the Italian culture in exchange.
I am currently in County Mayo in Ireland on a lovely stay, I hope to live more wonderful adventures in the future as well.

At home, I usually cook and clean the house. I have always taken care of indoor activities, but I would really like to learn basic outdoor tasks. In particular, I sometimes paint in my free time, and it would be great to try to paint "something bigger", such as walls or fences.
Even if I have never done outdoor housework, I have been part of the Scoutism movement for almost a decade so I am not scared of getting dirty and working in not-so-comfortable environments.
During highschool I participated in Summer Camps as an animator, so I have basic experience in dealing with kids.
I've also had a driving license since 2019.

I like moving my body frequently, going for a walk, training with dumbells at home, or practicing yoga. I am ready for physically challenging tasks, as long as running is not involved, I am not really good at it :)
I like cooking and eating, trying new dishes and discovering different flavors, I find the cooking world very fascinating and interesting.

This was my first Workaway experience, and I am very happy that I chose to spend these three weeks with Rosaleen and David. From the beginning, they were very welcoming and I immediately felt comfortable in their home.

Rosaleen and David were extremely kind and picked me up from the airport when I arrived and took me back there on the day of my departure, which was very convenient and much appreciated. I would definitely recommend considering Knock Airport if you are planning to come to this host. I was also able to fly with just a small backpack, as Rosaleen kindly lent me additional clothes that I needed during my stay.
Another Workawayer was staying there as well, and one more came by the end of my stay. The house was spacious, and each of us had a lovely private room. I really enjoyed having other people to work and spend time with. Three beautiful big cats were there with us too!
The house is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and we could go for walks in the fields around the house or take the bicycles for a ride. One of my favourite little trips was cycling to Urlaur Lough, which is about 45 minutes away by bike. We went there a few times to spend a peaceful afternoon enjoying the surroundings.

We were expected to work around 20 hours per week, but we had quite a lot of flexibility in the organisation. This was great because it allowed us to take a couple of trips to explore other parts of Ireland as well. Rosaleen and David were also very helpful in giving us advice about places to visit and which means of transport to take.
The work itself mainly consisted of collecting timber, weeding, and painting. On rainy days, we could work in the shed, which I really appreciated since we could continue working without getting soaked when the weather was bad.
Another thing I really enjoyed was having the opportunity to experience some Irish food and learn some traditional recipes. I got to try typical dishes such as cabbage and bacon and a traditional Irish breakfast. We also had the chance to learn how to make yogurt from scratch, as well as bake scones and soda bread. I am very happy to have learned these recipes, and I hope to make them again at home so I can share a little taste of Ireland with my friends and family!

My relationship with Rosaleen and David was good, and I deeply appreciated their kindness and hospitality throughout my stay. If I had to mention one small point, it would be that I would have appreciated knowing all the house rules, especially the usual schedules and timings, from the very first day. I think this could have helped avoid a few misunderstandings at the beginning. However, we were able to understand each other and get along well in the end.

Overall, I had a really positive experience and I am grateful to Rosaleen and David for welcoming me into their home. If you are considering doing a Workaway in Ireland, I would definitely recommend giving this place a chance. The peaceful countryside, the flexibility, the delicious homemade food and the chance to experience a more authentic side of Irish life made my three weeks here a very memorable experience.
