Hi, I'm Michael, I'm 23 and from Scotland. I have recently graduated with a degree in mathematics and I want to do some travelling around Italy before I enter the workplace. I have been learning Italian since 2020 but stopped in the last two years due to university commitment. So I'm looking to revive some of my Italian and become comfortable in the language. Furthermore, I really want to understand Italian culture which can only be done by living, not just visiting, the country.

In terms of skills I have worked in a variety of roles such as Gardening, Shop Assistant, Tutoring etc. These roles overlap with the work I am looking for at the moment which is either Hostel work, Farming and Au pairing. Through my degree I have learnt a lot of discipline and developed my work ethic as well as improved my academic teaching skills which I would seek to apply to my new roles. In addition, I have nurtured excellent computing and IT skills which some may find useful (I am working on becoming a Data Analyst/Scientist). In my travels I hope to develop my soft skills by meeting lots of new people and exposing myself to different ways of life.

I very interested in teaching languages since I would describe myself as a grammar nerd. It's a passion which I share with sister who's studying French and Russian (very jealous of her). I plan on getting a TEFL certificate and I would like to give teaching English a try.

(1) Communication Skills: For me good communication skills are an essential part of life and I try to improve these skills as much as possible. I have always worked well and enjoyed being in teams whether that be in football and basketball teams, working on academic projects or even just living shared accommodation. Good communication always the foundation of working well in teams and I have always sought to be a good team member. More formal communicative skills I have strengthened are relate to my previous work in retail and specifically in manging customers expectations. Also, my presentation skills presentation honed through out my degree. Alongside this I have good amount of teaching experience under my belt. I used to run a maths club in school and again in my degree the constant collaboration with my peers encouraged us to teach each other. I am planning to teach maths and English remotely (after I get my TEFL) to improve these skill and earn whilst travelling.

(2) Practical Skills: First of all, I am used to working in a customer facing environment as I worked part time in a shop whilst studying. I know how to effectively carry out assigned roles such as stocking, cleaning, cash handling etc. I've previously done gardening for other people and myself so I am comfortable with more physical jobs which may be required in the agricultural sector. Also, I can cook as I have cooked for myself and others pretty much everyday for 4 years as it is something I really enjoy and find it relaxing.
