Hi, I'm Maryann!

I've always been the person who's curious about what's around the next corner. I love traveling, but what I love even more is the people and cultures that come with it. I can spend hours talking to someone about what life is like where they're from, their favorite local food, family traditions, or the little things about a place that you would never find in a guidebook.

Some of my favorite travel memories have come from completely unplanned moments: getting lost in a city, ending up in conversations with strangers, finding a tiny local café, or laughing with people I had just met a few hours earlier. Those are the experiences that stick with me.

You'll usually find me planning my next trip, exploring somewhere with my dog (my mini aussie sansa she would love to come if youre pet friendly), trying a new coffee shop, or daydreaming about moving to Spain one day. I love animals, being outdoors, good food, good conversations, and people who are passionate about what they do.

For me, travel has never really been about sightseeing. It's about perspective. Every time I experience a different culture, I come away with a better understanding of the world and my place in it. I think that's why Workaway appeals to me so much. I love the idea of slowing down, becoming part of a community for a little while, helping out where I can, and experiencing a place through the people who actually live there.

I'm easygoing, curious, and always up for an adventure, especially the kind you didn't plan for.

Over the years I've worn a lot of different hats, which is one of the reasons I enjoy experiences like Workaway so much.

Professionally, my background is in operations, marketing, and project management, so I'm organized, reliable, and comfortable juggling different responsibilities. I've worked with social media, content creation, graphic design, community engagement, and marketing campaigns, and I'm always happy to help with anything from creating posts and taking photos to helping improve a website or brainstorming ideas to attract more guests or customers.

I'm also a huge animal lover and have experience caring for dogs of all ages and personalities. As a pet owner myself, I understand how important it is to know your pets are safe, comfortable, and cared for while you're away.

When it comes to house sitting, I'm responsible, respectful, and dependable. I understand that you're trusting someone with your home, pets, and peace of mind, and I take that seriously. I'm naturally organized, communicate well, and pay attention to details, whether that's keeping a home tidy, following routines, watering plants, collecting mail, or making sure pets stick to their normal schedule.

I also enjoy working with children and helping others learn and grow. I have experience as a nanny and have spent much of my professional career mentoring, training, and supporting both teenagers and young professionals. One of the things I enjoy most is helping people build confidence, learn new skills, and reach their goals in a supportive and encouraging environment.

As a native English speaker, I'm happy to help with conversational English practice in a relaxed and natural way. I'm currently working toward my TEFL certification because teaching English abroad is something I've been interested in for a long time. I love cultural exchange, language learning, and the opportunity to connect with people from different backgrounds while helping them feel more confident communicating in English.

I enjoy helping wherever I'm needed, whether that's assisting around a hostel, supporting guests, helping with social media and marketing projects, creating content, graphic design, organizing tasks, teaching conversational English, or simply being an extra set of reliable hands.

More than any specific skill, I think my biggest strength is being adaptable. I learn quickly, enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds, and genuinely like contributing to a home, business, or community in a meaningful way.

A few random things about me...

*I spent time living in New York City, which probably fueled my love of exploring and finding hidden gems. *I'm the friend who always has a Google Maps list going. Whether it's a coffee shop, restaurant, viewpoint, bookstore, or neighborhood I stumbled across while traveling, I love saving places and sharing recommendations with people (also love gatekeeping a true local gem).
*I've solo traveled through Europe and one of my favorite things about travel is discovering places that aren't in the guidebooks. I love wandering without much of a plan and seeing where the day takes me.
*I LOVE a mirador (view point) and a SUNSET and PARK HANG :)
*I'm a huge dog person (tell ur dog i said hi), love trying new desserts and matchas. I love live music (bad bunny stan), tennis, and yes, I'm absolutely a Bravo reality TV fan.
*I love anything that lets me be creative. I make UGC content with my dog, enjoy creating reels, and could honestly spend hours designing things in Canva. I love taking an idea and turning it into something visual.
*I have a degree in Nutrition Science from NC State, but I've always had a lot of different interests and have never been someone who fits neatly into one box. I'm naturally curious and usually willing to try something at least once.
*More than anything, I'd say I'm adaptable, curious, easygoing, and have a good sense of humor. I think life is a lot more fun when you can laugh at yourself, stay open to new experiences, and not take everything too seriously.
