Hello and welcome to our Workaway profile! We are a couple from Uruguay who are passionate about making a positive impact on the world. Our names are Lucía (Lu) and Tomás (Tom/Tommy) and we are excited to embark on a 3-month trip to the United Kingdom to experience cultural exchange, learn new skills, and contribute to meaningful projects.

Although we come from different professional backgrounds - Social Worker (Lu) and Head of Software QA (Tom) - we share a deep respect for nature and a desire to have a more meaningful and fulfilling life. We believe that by connecting with nature, advocating for human rights, promoting diversity and kindness, and living simply, we can create a more just and sustainable world. We are determined to start a new life that aligns with our values and beliefs, and this trip is the first step in that journey.

As Workawayers, we are excited to be part of projects that have a positive impact on individuals, families, communities, or nature. We have a wide range of skills and interests that we are eager to share with our hosts [see below section]. We are open to different types of projects, as long as they align with our values and contribute to a greater good. We are also excited to learn new skills and gain new perspectives from our hosts and fellow Workawayers.

Lu has a well-established career in the field of human rights in Uruguay, where she works on issues such as violence against children, adolescents, women, and the LGBTQ+ community. She has also taught on topics related to gender and sexual diversity. She finds her career fulfilling, but is eager to live new experiences that challenge her to step outside of her comfort zone and develop new personal skills.

With a background in computer science and business management, Tomas has had a successful career in software quality assurance. He has held various roles in this field, including his most recent position as Head of QA for a Canadian company with a global presence. Tomas is passionate about building and leading teams, and he takes great pride in helping others develop both professionally and personally. He is a natural leader and is known for his empathy and mentorship skills.

Despite his successful career, Tomas has always felt a deep connection to nature, which stems from his upbringing in small cities and rural areas. He has a strong desire to spend more time outdoors and to rediscover the connection he felt to the natural world as a child and teenager. To pursue this passion, he made the difficult decision to leave his job and embark on a personal journey to define the next stage of his professional life. He is excited to begin this new chapter and is eager to have new experiences that will allow him to grow and learn.

Lucía is a native Spanish speaker with intermediate proficiency in English, and she is excited to have an immersive experience to improve her vocabulary and fluency. She is also learning Italian as her family origins are there and we plan to visit Italy after our trip in the UK. Lucia is eager to have language exchange experiences to improve her English skills and to help others learn Spanish.Tomas was born in the border between Uruguay and Brazil and is a native speaker of both Spanish and Portuguese. Although he has not spoken Portuguese on a daily basis for the last 15 years, he still has a good command of the language. He started learning English when he was 6 years old and it has become his favorite language. In general, Tomas is passionate about languages and enjoys learning about them. Currently, he is also learning Italian and Dutch to broaden his linguistic horizons.

* Housekeeping skills, including cooking, cleaning, laundry, and other household chores.
* Taking care of cats and dogs (we have 4 cats now and both had dogs in the past)
* Driving - on both the right and left side, manual and automatic cars (we both have international driving license but Lu is normally the driver)
* Resourcefulness and ability to find solutions on the internet for DIY projects and other challenges.

* Childminding - I have experience as a nanny when I was younger, and I'm also a social work professional working on issues such as violence against children and teenagers, so I have a strong understanding of child development and how to create a safe and nurturing environment for children.
* Teaching skills - I have experience as a tutor and enjoy sharing knowledge with others.
* Team working - I am a collaborative and communicative person who values working together to achieve shared goals.
* Resourceful and willing to learn more about DIY projects, gardening and nature - I am eager to expand my skills and knowledge in these areas and am excited to contribute to projects related to sustainability and environmental conservation.

* Gardening skills, including planting, watering, weeding, and other garden tasks, with experience in planting vegetables and fruit trees.
* Basic experience in farming and cattle management, including feeding, fencing, and other related tasks, with some knowledge of livestock herding and firewood gathering.
* Basic building skills, including wall construction, painting, and DIY projects, with experience building a wood house for vulnerable families and helping with family projects (a long time ago) such as walls, floors, and a swimming pool.
* Physical fitness and ability to adapt to different physical tasks, with a daily gym routine to maintain fitness.
