  • Description

Hi! My name is Lisa and I'm a 21-year-old French girl on a gap year.

I'm currently living in the southwest of France - in the Pyrenees - with my family and have decided to take a year away from my studies to fulfil my desire to travel abroad and discover new cultures.

    ---------
    About me:

I have spent 8 years with my family in the Congo (from age 4 to age 12) where multiculturalism and the diversity of ethnicities have enabled me to develop an open mind and an appeal for different cultures.

Since we've moved back to France, my family (i.e. my mother, my stepfather, my 13 year-old brother and my 24 year-old sister... as well as our hens and cockerel, our cats, dog and guineapig!) and I have been living in a 30-hectare property surrounded by vineyards and the forest. I have been helping my mother with her bed-and-breakfast business since 2020 and have been a waitress and a help in my local campsite.

I would say that my hobbies can be summarised in two categories: nature and academic studies. Indeed, I can just as easily dream of spending my days in an old library researching and writing as I can of living alone in the woods with my dog, hiking and enjoying outdoor activities.

    ---------
Why I want to be a workawayer:

I may not know what I want to do for the rest of my life, but I do know I want to enjoy my twenties to explore, discover, learn and help as much as possible.

For as long as I can remember, the abundant history of English-speaking countries and the language that ensues from it have always fascinated me and I consider Ireland and the United Kingdom as civilisational goldmines I would love to learn more about.
This is why it has always been a dream of mine to be able to travel to one of those countries, in order to improve my English level as well as my knowledge of their history. But more than that, I wish to experience and be part of those countries' cultures and way-of-life.

After having spent 2 years in a small flat in Bordeaux for my studies, I am ready to set to work!
I am strong - I don't mean to brag but I am my stepfather's first choice when it comes to helping him around the house (moving furniture, mowing, chopping wood...). But most of all I am resolute and I like to do what I'm asked well.
I'm a very curious and industrious person eager to learn and meet new people.
I would describe myself as a reliable individual, not quick to judge others and always willing to help.

I hope this little summary of my life and personality will have helped you know a little bit more about me and about the kind of workawayer I can be.

--> Even though I don't work in construction, I am not afraid to learn and do manual labour - I can be strong and am not afraid to get dirty.
My family and I renovated our bed and breakfast, so I got to learn a bit about painting walls, assembling a piece of furniture or decorating.
Moreover, my house has a wood-burning stove and a hearth, so I often organise logs and light the fire.

--> Having a big house with a bed and breakfast business, I also know about cleaning and taking care of a house.

--> I am a true animal lover, I love all animals and my experience with my pets would make me a good petsitter.

--> I have a few skills about computer science that can sometimes be put to use - I created our bed and breakfast Google page and I designed our business cards.

--> Thanks to my studies, I have gained a fair knowledge of mathematics, literature, history, philosophy, sociology and economics that can sometimes come in handy, depending on the kind of help you are looking for.

--> Although I am mainly hoping to improve my English level, I would not mind helping you discover or improve your French.

--> Last but not least, I have a big smile and good social skills with costumers.
