Description
My name is El and I'm 22 years old from Cape Neddick, Maine.
I caught the travel bug in 2022 and decided to travel abroad for the first time; at the end of the year I had visited eleven countries and volunteered through Workaway with four different families that I had such enriching experiences with.
I enjoy being outside in nature as much as possible; swimming, hiking, and surfing are my favorite hobbies but I also enjoy reading, listening to music, and watching movies.
To me, Workaway (or volunteering) is NOT just a "cheap" way to travel, it's a way to really connect with the culture of where you are visiting and learn things you may not if you traveled on your own. To have new friends in so many different countries is something I wouldn't have imagined for myself even two years ago and I wouldn't change that or my travel experiences for anything!

I would love to become a better French speaker; I took it for a few years in high school but since then I've lost a lot of my vocabulary. Since I live in Maine, we get many French Canadian tourists who I would love to be able to communicate with better.

I have lots of experience with kids as I come from a large family and I au-paired for three of the four families I stayed with through Workaway in 2022. I really enjoy entertaining kids and I'm happy to babysit anytime.
I'm a native English speaker so I can definitely assist with the language if needed. I've given English lessons to kids in France before and I would enjoy doing it again!
I enjoy cooking and baking (and learning new recipes from different cultures) so if you're in need of someone to help with meals, I'm happy to do that. I mostly cook vegetarian recipes because I'm pescatarian but I'm also very used to finding food for myself so if you or your family eat meat there is no issue at all.
I also have experience with boating/customer service/tourism. I work as a tour guide on a boat in Ogunquit, Maine during the summer - my job includes bartending, narration, reception, and directing tourists. I’m very familiar with motor boats and I’m eager to learn more about sailboats and sailing.
