Description
Hi!
I'm Libby, an eager 24-year-old living in Brooklyn, NY by way of Vermont. After graduating with a degree in food studies and public action, I moved to the big city to be immersed in arts and of course, the culinary bonanza of NYC! A farm & forest girl at heart, I've become a citizen tree pruner here and an active member of my local community garden, and am so thrilled to get back to the countryside during my travels.
I grew up on a small family farm in the hills of Vermont, helping out on dairy farms, organic produce farms, apple orchards and a friend's sugarbush (maple syrup "farm"). I took a permaculture design course when I was 17, which guided my entire path forward; though I don't necessarily practice permaculture by the book, that holistic outlooks informs all of my ways.
By the time I reached college I found that trees are my one true love. For my three years at school, I honed in on chestnut trees, researching their use towards future food security and carbon sequestration in the time of climate change, and orchestrating community kitchen labs where we cooked and experimented with the nuts together.
Other than being known as the chestnut girl, I'm passionate about arts and culture – weaving is my passion, but I love tinkering in all forms of craft, preferring to keep it simpler than the lofty art-world aspirations, though I love to appreciate some far-out modern art as well. In my next life, I hope to be an architect....
Overall, my demeanor is open, curious, optimistic, and hard-working. Traveling and meeting new people gives me life, which can be difficult to reconcile with my urge to create stable local community and relationships, but I think it all comes together in harmony. :) I find deep joy in working hard with my body, tending the land, working as a team, and a job well done.
More practically, I'm most skilled on the land, working the garden or trees or yards, but I'm also adept at basic computer things – graphic design, digital organizing (I was a virtual assistant for a year), etc. I don't have the confidence to spearhead any construction work, but am handy with tools and given instructions can complete a project, with an eye for detail and perfection. In terms of children, I've been a babysitter and a nature camp counselor (ages 4-12), and love to work with kids, especially in outdoor education.
I'm equally happy working alone, meditating on my relationship to the task at hand, or with a crew, talking and laughing and joking (and maybe some singing – I have a backlog of community sing songs, if needed). At this phase of my life I'm not devoutly engaging in a spiritual practice, but would love to return to a more regular meditation and mindfulness practice.
I enjoy to have a glass of wine or two and a cigarette with friends after a day of work, have a night of dancing, but am equally comfortable forgoing these substances!
I am so looking forward to getting to know you, your land, your project, and hope I can contribute my skills, know-how, and company!Interests

I'm a hard and dedicated worker, respectful and a quick learner.
I've worked on numerous organic farms as a paid worker, and done a good amount of volunteering at sustainable projects at various stages of completion - I'm willing to do pretty much whatever, but especially enjoy gardening - and yes, even brush clearing and wood hauling and shoveling! I love sharing food and recipes, cooking with or for other people.
I did my first natural building project last year in Ecuador, and loved the process! I would love to learn more about construction, but can't promise any degree of expertise.
I also love to help with art projects and installations -- need a mosaic? A mural? Wanna cover a tree in colorful crochet? I'd also love to get some sort of loom for weaving going anywhere I go.Age
