Description
Howdy!
I’m James, I’m from Australia and am currently cycling though Europe and North Africa. While I have backpacked a lot, this is my first time doing an international bicycle tour and I have completely fallen in love with it. The constant engagement with one’s environment and work you put in to get from A to B is super grounding and fun.
In this thread, I’m seeking to engage with projects and causes that connect with a slower and more thoughtful way of life. To respect one’s surroundings and create change for the good of all.
I’m a university educated copy and content writer, having worked in touristic, journalistic and technical/admin writing spaces. I have also taught English a number of times in my travels.I have experience in landscaping and building, having built a number of sheds/studios, I have worked in framing, concreting and fencing. I’m a quick learner and good with my hands, I believe I’d be able to help in many facets for your Workaway. I have both a car and motorcycle license, though I just have my bicycle with me!
I'm a big fan of slow travel, I spent 11 months backpacking around Asia and travelled overland from Hong Kong to Slovenia, both without taking a flight. On that second trip I fell in love with Tbilisi, Georgia and ending up living there for over two years. In my travels I have plenty of experience being a Couchsurfer, home stay guest and volunteer but this is my first time engaging with Workaway.
I’m really interested in natural building, specifically earth ships and rammed earth construction, one day I would love to build my own home like this.Interests

As mentioned above, I like to think I'm pretty good with my hands, I have now planned and built a number of projects with Workaway hosts including a donkey shed utilising recycled materials and a 5x10 metre roof structure for a bus. I have built a number of dry and wet stone walls, have poured countless concrete slabs and footings and have plenty of framing and landscaping experience. Most recently I have worked with horse manure cob to make a landscape sculpture, this project included all found materials.
Outside of construction and landscaping, I have worked as a copy, content writer and technical writer both as a freelancer and with universities in Australia. I have taught English, though not for many years now. I have built websites, managed customer relations, tended animals, tour guided, been a presenter, and worked in all sorts of hospitality and retail gigs.
Long (and self-aggrandising) story short, I have a lot of experience in many fields and I believe I can turn my hand to most things.Age
