  • Description

    Hello,

We are best friends who are absolutely obsessed with animals and nature. I’m Julia (21), and I am studying to be a painter and educator at UNC Asheville. Luna (21) is studying international studies, political science, and psychology at UNC Charlotte. We became friends while attending environmentalist club meetings in high school almost six years ago and are excited for our next adventure together.

I must start off by saying that Luna is one of the kindest people you will ever meet! She grew up in Lebanon and moved to the United States in high school. Luna is very creative and likes to craft, jewelry, read and exercise in her free time. She is an incredibly hard worker and hopes to become a humanitarian aid lawyer to help advocate for communities in crisis. Luna is trying to improve her Spanish to help Spanish speaking communities and has become increasingly interested in volunteering in Spain due to her international studies class.

I grew up in the United States in a family that loves to camp and hike. My father is from Spain and would send my siblings and me to my grandmother's house near Valladolid for the summer. I absolutely loved spending time in her town (Nava del Rey) and have the best memories of playing in fields and harvesting mushrooms, and almonds with my family. In my free time, I enjoy oil painting, playing guitar , metal embossing, printmaking, taking my dogs to the lake and trying to learn Catalan (I am already fluent in Spanish).

While Luna and I have different experience levels when it comes to gardening and animal care, we are both equally excited to take on any task that needs to be done! Luna grew up gardening with her grandmother and hopes to gain knowledge she can use in her grandmother’s garden. I have always adored animals and grew up loving and caring for foster animals and pets (14 dogs and 7 cats over a span of 10 years). When I was younger, three of my best friends lived on farms. I always loved helping with barn chores and spending time with their animals after school. Luna and I cannot wait to love and care for animals and learn more about the world of farming. We love new experiences, meeting new people, and can't wait to see where our travels take us.

  • More details about your skills

    ANIMALS:
(Julia) I am very skilled with dogs. I have lived with 14 foster dogs and family dogs over the past ten years. I attended dog behavioral classes to learn techniques for obedience training. I have experience in potty training animals. In terms of farm animals, I grew up helping friends with their barn chores like feeding, mucking stalls, collecting eggs, and milking goats. Most of my experience is with dogs, but I would love to take care of farm animals of all types.
(Luna) While I have no formal experience with animals, I adore animals and would love to work with them!

    GARDENING:
(Luna) I have worked with my grandmother in her garden since I was a kid. Together we plant and harvest cucumbers, tomatoes, and various herbs.
(Julia) I have helped out with yard work around the house, so I have experience with mowing lawns, shaping bushes, weeding, and basic planting. I am excited to learn more about agriculture and landscaping if the opportunity presents itself.

    COOKING:
(Luna and Julia) Luna and I both enjoy cooking. I love to make vegetarian dishes, and Luna excels in making Lebanese food. We would both be happy to help in the kitchen if anyone needs extra help.

    BUILDING PROJECTS:
(Julia) During my time at UNC Asheville, I have taken sculpture classes, so I have very basic experience with bandsaws, sanding belts, and drills.

    CAREGIVING:
(Luna) I have been taking care of my three siblings since high school in the United States, while my parents live in Lebanon. We live with our grandparents, who I help care for as well. I also have babysitting experience with toddlers. My youngest sibling is currently in middle school.
(Julia) I have a lot of experience with children in the teaching realm. I have participated in the art education internship at Sawtooth School for Visual Art, assisted in being a camp counselor, and took part in Teacher Cadet (a program to assistant teach in special needs classrooms). I have also been a babysitter for 7 years.

    ATTITUDE :)
We are both hard workers and are ready to give 100% effort in learning new skills and completing tasks!
