Taiwan - from Apr 2025 until Aug 2025 View allDescription
Hi! I am Jonas, a 29 year old dude from Germany. I travel around the world, hoping to find inspiration in different ways of living, to develop as a person and to find meaning in whatever I do.
From 2015 to 2019 I hitchhiked from Germany to Taiwan and back along the silk road. That time has profoundly shaped my views on the world, my interests and the way I want to live. From 2021 to 2024 I studied music in a tiny Jazz school of 50 students in the Negev desert in Israel. There I professionalized my skill and got exposed to life in the desert as well as the everlasting Israel-Palestine conflict.
At the bottom of my heart I am a musician and creativity/self-expression is the driving force in my life. However, traveling and more recently the pandemic have shown me that it's good to be skilled in multiple fields. So besides being an active musician, I feel the urge to develop practical skills, to do something with my hands, to be in touch with nature. I'm therefore very interested in all permaculture related projects as well as in building with natural materials... and anything else that would make me more independent from society's grip and lead to a more sustainable life.
I'm a very calm, flexible and adaptive guy. I have lived with people from all sorts of different cultures, often on very limited space, so I know how to deal with unpleasant situations and learned how to communicate in a clear, open way. Although I was quite chaotic in my teens, I have started seeing value in structure and over time became quite a tidy person (there's always space for improvement though, hehe).
I would consider myself a good listener and people have often described me as "diplomatic" - I enjoy mediating between people, since I respect and see validity in (almost) every position. The downside of this is that I might often put my own needs behind those of the group and therefore end up being frustrated. So...let's help each other being open ;-)
My essential mindset is: There is always a way - I use this approach to solve any kind of work-related problem as well as for traveling and living in general. There is no obstacle too big, it's just a matter of motivation, patience and faith. Having this in mind, I am a peaceful person going with the flow.Interests

More details about your skills
I don't have any professional education, although I am a student now. Most of my skills are self-taught or acquired through different volunteering opportunities, through living with lots of different communities and simply by (travel) life. Some of them are listed below:
- Gardening/Constructing:
I currently work as a gardener, so I have some experience in gardening and working in the forest as well as basic construction skills. Also, I once built a roof in Tajikistan without understanding my co-workers language. The house still stands and the room inside is dry, so I guess I didn't perform too badly!
- Tutoring/Teaching:
While living in Germany, I worked part-time as a private tutor for middle school students in subjects like English, History, Politics, Music, ... basically everything except of math :D
I started playing the guitar at the age of 6 and since I am 14 years old I give guitar lessons. Until now I taught many students - between 12 and 50 years old - so I would say I know how to motivate people and encourage them to use their full potential :-)
While traveling in Asia, I helped out as an English teacher in different volunteering projects, so I have experiences with teaching bigger groups as well.
- Communication/Language:
I like communication and over the past years on the road I learned a lot about how to talk with people whose language I don't speak. By using body language, empathy and a good understanding of the situation it was always possible to say what was necessary.. :)
I do have experience in translating, which I did as an advisor for an international volunteer camp (IBG Workcamp in Germany).
Besides, I currently write a book about my travel experiences (in English) so I would consider my sense of language quite extended.
- Meditation/spiritual practice:
I practice meditation since I am 18 years old and have lived in a Buddhist monastery in Myanmar. Although it was only for 3 months, it still taught me a lot about meditation, discipline and the value of a devoted community. I'm certainly not a meditation master, but it is part of my daily routine and I'm more than happy to share this gift with others by guiding meditations or by helping to organize retreats.
- Audio engineering:
In my teens I began recording and producing my own music and soon I will actually release my first solo album. When I don't play music (which doesn't happen too often :D ) I spend most of my time recording, producing, mixing etc.
If there are any music related projects or events that need proper audio recording, I'm at your service!
- Community/mediating/discussion:
Also I study sociology, which means I'm always up for a productive discussion and might be able to add my knowledge to support a well-working, harmonious community.
As mentioned above, I enjoy mediating between people, so if there are tensions in your group that are difficult to solve, or if you simply need someone to listen to you, I will do what I can to bring balance :)
But after all, I do workaway in order to gain experience and to enlarge my horizon - so I am happy to learn anything new! ;-)Age

What else ...
I travel with my guitar so we can always have some nice music or a magical jam session together!

from the first day i was welcomed by the whole family, consisting of nar and ahmed, the workers as well as the volunteers and during my stay it felt like home.
the work was not too hard and usually varied a lot: gardening, cutting wood, going out with goats and sheep, feeding the dogs or… read more
