Hi! This is me, a brief of me as workawayer.

I just finished my journey in Africa, 4 months in Angola as a project manager in a tech company, 4 months volunteering in Kenya, 1 month in Tanzania and 1 month in South Africa.

I'm enthusiastic about sustainable farming and dedicated to learn more about it and start my own project in future in China.

I've worked independently or collaboratively on the projects, such as eco-construction, designing, farming, cooking workshop and education.

Now here I'm in Brazil to continue my journey and hope to encounter some meaningful connections!

Here's what I'm good at:

Cooking: I love making delicious food, but what I truly enjoy is the connections built through cooking and sharing meals. I'm happy to host a workshop on Chinese cuisine or do some casual, everyday cooking. However, I prefer cooking to be a leisurely activity rather than a duty.

Music: I have a few years of experience playing in a band and have also performed gigs and collaborated on an album with friends. I always carry my guitar with me and would love to share music and learn from others.

Research: I've done my Philosophy MA degree while I was in UK. So, knowledge based projects can be something I'm also familiar with. My current interest are mostly focused on sustainability, nature, social issues and cultures.

Farming & Sustainable Design: These are what I’m really passionate about. I’m happy to come up with a plan to resolve everyday life problems using environmentally friendly materials. I’m also happy to do farm work and improve the current unsatisfying situation.

What I want to do:

I see Workaway as an opportunity for both the host and the workawayer to learn from each other. The relationship should be reciprocal and mutually beneficial. I’ve been interested in sustainable projects (farming, construction, waste management, etc.) for a long time, and I want to dedicate myself to this field in the future. At the same time, what truly makes this work meaningful to me is the chance to help others. I’d love to contribute to something that genuinely gives back to people and the community : )

I used to do the gardening at my home.

Most Workaways I've done are associated with organic farming and sustainable projects. And I enjoy them very much.

I worked in the kitchen and held Chinese workshop before. I love cooking and sharing food.

I love music and made album with friend collaboratively. I play guitar and sometimes chinese flute.

I enjoy manual works, especially creative ones, and the works in the nature.

It is a great fortune for me to have my first Workawaye experience here. I spent 2 weeks with Julius and his family, and each day was refreshing and full of new experience.

I went to the lake almost everyday for swimming and showering. We went out a few times with the fishermen to see the fish cages and try fishing. There are various kinds of… read more birds hanging around the lake, including fish-eagle (most beatiful animal in the world!). I feel also very happy that to have mango, lemon, papaya, and some other fruit threes all around the villages. Sometimes I’d just pick up wild fruits from the roadside. Each afternoon, you will see hundreds of birds fly back to their nests in the three, which just beside the houses we live. On clear nights, you can see many stars in the sky. On rainy days, you will be able hear the incredible concert from the frogs in the bush.

On the work side, Me and another volunteer, John, made a swing and picked up some litters around the area. There isn’t a proper recycling system here, so perhaps some volunteers can come up with some creative ideas for waste disposal. I only did few days work of computer teaching this time because kids were still in school. I wish I could do something more sometimes. Many kids here are eager to learn computer skills, but resources are very limited. Half of the computers in the room are broken, and some of them lack proper software. I installed WPS to replace Microsoft 365 series, which requires quite amount payment continuously, so now kids should be able to use these software in some of the computers. If you have knowledge of computer maintenance or can bring some relative computer accessories, that will be really helpful for the computer training. Apart from that, kids enjoy very much football playing. Me and John used to go every afternoon.

Other from that, the transportation there is not very easy. The road is quite long and can be very bumpy from the Mbita to Ngeri, so be prepared for that! Accommodation is very simple, but is sufficient enough for me. The network and electricity can be relatively limited if you are remote workers, but it is good for people who want to stay away from city life. At the end, so much appreciation for Julius and his family, they are very communicable and help me a lot when I have some difficulties. It was a unforgettable experience for me : ) .

Joshua is an excellent Workaway volunteer. We were very grateful for his kind help in clearing bush along our farm fence. He was always enthusiastic and positive in all that he did. He was keen to learn more about farming which we hope to address at another visit should he come again.

I have stayed with Sally and Pieter for about a week. I hope I can stay longer next time.

Sally is very kind and caring and Pieter is very knowledgeable about animals and plants. The accommodations are private. The work is very scheduled. What has to be done is depending on the season and specific circumstances of the farm.
